The "War on Drugs" has been a success. It has allowed the militarization of our state and local law enforcement, a dependency on the federal gov't for more grant money and equipment, and wealth thanks to court fees and the private correctional industry.
A hundred years from now people are going to realize just how stupid the prohibition on cannabis has been...once research is opened up, I believe they're going to find and prove that cannabis is the most beneficial drug the world has ever known.
Some of the problems with the "War on Drugs" its focused on the wrong areas an fought with the wrong resources. We arrest people that are no threat to anyone other then perhaps themselves and we treat Drug Addicts like Criminals instead of the Patients that they are.
Alcohol and Tobacco have shown that Regulation is more effective then Prohibition because if people want to do something bad enough they'll find a way to do it. Lets Legalize and Regulate Marijuana and send Drug Addicts to Rehab.
Ideally, this guy would be the GOP candidate on 2012...but since the presidency is a popularity contest, I really doubt he will. Also, his stance on abortion, drugs and immigration would represent a problem to his party peers. Now, it is good to have him on debates like Paul was in order to give power to this movement, which I like to call common sense!
Well on immigration he is mixed on that. He doesn't support illegal immigration, but he feels that we have to get illegals to stop collecting our benefits. That's probably the one issue with him that pisses me off, because I'm strongly anti-illegal. Yet if it's a popularity contest him might win. And out of any candidate I've seen he'll probably appeal best to young Republicans. Also he has a good charisma to him and an ability to do well in the debates so he might be able to pull of a win.
gary johnson has just recently come on my radar, so I could be mistaken, but he seems to represent a resurgence of small government fiscal conservatism/ social liberalism a la Ron Paul that this country desperately needs. I don't even know which party he belongs to, but he seems to have the right idea about the role of government. I'd seriously consider voting for him or any other straight talking, anti-establishment candidate who's ready to shake things up and challenge the status quo.
He's a Republican and a good one. His record as governor was probably the best out of any candidate that is running for the Republicans in 2010. And it's time we elect someone like him that will just do the right thing and not care about reelection.
@cpblackangel88 Unfortunately we have seen less and less good republicans, that's why there's such a stigmatization of the republican party as ignorant, reactionary, jingoist, xenophobic, homofobic, religiously fanatic worldwide.
I hope more good republicans leave their holes, wherever these holes are.
Holy FUCK there is a shit load of common sense in this video

@hagbard72 I agree. A major step is to stop using the same government-grown stuff in study after study. Low in THC, high in CBDs.
