For some odd reason, the film version (track 16) of this on the La La Land CD sounds terrible, murky, muddy and a generally very bad mix. The audio on this YouTube video is ten, maybe twenty times far clearer and higher in fidelity. THAT I don't get. My understanding is that the "film version" is a mix of the album version (track 11) and the deeply touching synthesizer arrangement Jones did to "sweeten" the album version (track 18). I don't understand why the film version sounds so BAD on the CD
@CharlieBladeRemus 100 percent agree. Great comment. Couldn't have put it better myself. Iggy Pop once said... ""Really good music isn't just to be heard, you know? It's almost like a hallucination."
For some reason, Voight unhooking the coupling to the train..in the cold..with this music playing, reminded me of DeNiro as Frankenstein. Similar people in many ways..?
A lot of purists complained when this was on the soundtrack, saying it was honoring the resolution of the film and immoral actions of the lead characters.
I say they are wrong.
Many of the same people hated Jones score for being progressive rock-like at times. Apparently some people would be happy if every score were imitation John Williams canned orchestrations.
One of my all time favorite movies ever! I think one of the things that really struck me was it appears it was filmed on location in some really brutal conditions. I am from waaaaay upstate NY and I can usually tell fake c-c-c-cold from real C-C-C-COLD!
Amazing!! As somebody once said "Music from God". Thanks too "The USSR Academic Russian Chorus and the Moscow Conservatoire Students Orchestra". No other piece of music can match the power to move thoughts and emotions!
Thanks for posting and nice touch with the pictures!
The best version I've ever heard of this piece. I wish this movie was out on Blu or better - bring me 4 or 6k resolution. Now that's more like FULL HD! Oh, and thanks for a great video.
One of my all time favorite movies and ending scenes especially with this hauntingly beautiful music. I thought this was one of Jon Voight's and Eric Robert's finest performances. Rebecca De Mornay was well cast in a non-glamorous role.
@dapsapsrp Well I was going to say rougherly the same thing...I agree with the fact the fantastic music score strikes well with the evolving finale of this fine film....thanks for your comment I wish a lot of people would read it!
Very underrated movie, AMAZING performance by Jon Voight, Still photos from movies are awesome and most importantly: Stunning piece of music. I can't put into words how this piece makes me feel, I really can't.
There's a site called lalaland but I dunno... it didn't look, ahem, altogether "safe" if you know what I mean... I don't just put my card details anywhere! Amazon wanted to charge me £26 shipping... that's about $40... me arse!
man, this is a first rate slide show to a great movie! So simple and yet so much going on several levels in it that you find yourself thinking about it days later. Great job Elypsz .. thanks to you I finally was able to bag a recording of Vivaldi's "Gloria" off this (been looking for it for years).
@HerculesSpock I have a copy on CD and LP, both which were hunted down forever before I found it, I recently copied it to mp3 to make sure I never lose a copy of it.
@HerculesSpock Download VDownloader 3.0, it's a free installation of a program that lets you copy music off of YouTube video's and converts them to MP3 files. It's totally awesome! Some music you might not be able to download but if you pay $39.99 you can upgrade to the "Plus" version and you can get it all. I've been looking for this Runaway Train music since 1985 and I finally found it here and was able to download it. Now it's in my iPod. SWEET!
this is pure heaven .................

@HerculesSpock Try go to the Music shop...
Ask for Vivaldi Music CD... There should be at lest one of his collection there.
The sore you need what is shown on the title "Et in terra pax"
Make sure you go to someone that knows music, not to a kid..
(I think it is the 4th movement of the sore RV588) Check Wikipedia.. Gloria Vivaldi
