  • the engine on the 2009-present Chevrolet Equinox

    Engine

2.4 L direct injection, (flex fuel compatible, for 2012 model year) LAF I4

    3.0 L direct injection, flex fuel compatible LF1 V6

  • How to get into business?

  • How do you become a car tester? I was wondering.

  • @LadyGaGaGeek Stepped in it. Got lucky. Worked like a banshee.

  • Made in Canada.

  • @veedub447 Still American brand though.

  • this truck involved was used by the fire and shooting in monterrey casino, with a mini cooper, a s10 and a grand marquiz

  • WOW! Impressive! This is between a small and a midsized SUV. This get's better fuel economy than a Nissan Rogue and much of the Small SUV category! And it's pretty quick too! Nice 4 cylinder! I'm impressed!

  • That's actually pretty strong for a 4 cylinder in a vehicle like that. Before people comment, they need to consider the type of vehicle they comment on!

  • haha my 1989 honda crx beats all these new cars in mileage

  • I love me equinox best decision I ever made.

  • 2.4L and front wheel drive does 600 mile from an 18 gallon tank.amazing

  • i will go for rav 4 as an all rounder just below chevies. hhehehe

  • my dad is going for 2011 chevrolet equionx 1lt black trading in his old 2006 chevy equionx ls would valvue drop if changing to a new body style?

  • Why was the observed city milage not listed? It's annoying that people skip the city milage so frequently.

  • @Disturbed0022 While we perform our highway mileage testing on a standard route, we currently lack the resources to do so within city limits. We're working on that.

City mileage is a roll of the dice ... there are many variables ...

  • I also went with the Terrain.......Best decision I ever made!

  • I wish this car was sold in Chile

  • For an SUV that 0-60 was a lot better then my mazda tribute. power sucks. i feel like im riding a lawn mower and i dont get it because the muffler sounds like a raging bull waiting to slaughter you in half..

  • excellent review..i get tired of people doing reviews and the camera just focuses on the host while he talks about the vehicle.

  • I made up my mind.. bought the Terrain. I love it!

  • Great video! For more info check out the Official ChevyEquinoxForum

  • Finally, Chevy is following the footsteps of Ford, Hyundai and Kia. I love how the new equinox looks. Hated the old one. GM is starting to come along now. Next will be Chryslers turn to step up there game.

  • @giannial1985 ..wtf?

  • @azyome Don't understand how you didn't get my comment. I mean that in quality and reliability, chevy is starting to make better vehicles like the others :P

  • @giannial1985 no i dont get why u added chrysler into it!

  • 4cyl in an SUV..........No Way !

But I like the trucks looks

  • my mom just got this car lol

  • which car is better chevrolet equinox or dodge journey

  • I am so undecided I have already put $500 down on the terrain without even checking out the equinox, now I think I like the equinox better. I'm driving my husband crazy. Someone help me. Which one is better???? I guess it all comes down to the exterior everything else is pretty much the same right?

  • @Traycee67 - Aye, yup. They're very close.

  • you'll have to pay a higher base price on the terrain for supposed higher quality

  • @jjaquu I decided to go with the terrain I love the look of the car and it drives like a dream...i def made the right chioce for me Thanks

  • @mpgomatic I work in the plant that makes both the terrain and the equinox, they are EXACTLY the same except for the exterior.

  • @336616 The interior lighting is Red inthe GMC and it is Blue in the Chevrolet. Not a big difference, but if your like me and you can't stand the old pontiac and GMC red lighting then you notice those type things. Hence the reason I am choosing the Equinox over the Terrain, although I like the exterior styling of the Terrain better, I just can't stand the red lighting.

  • on the terrain you will pay a higher base price for supposed GMC higher qualtiy

  • @Traycee67 Buy Both. LOL. If your looking for a rugged design, that will help you get the job done, and its a man's best friend, than you should get the Terrain, i think its a great bold design. The Equinox is somewhat of a family crossover.

  • @Traycee67 which one has better mpg? thats would ptretty much be the deciding factor.

  • @Traycee67, backup cameras are standard on all Terrains and optional on the Equinox, as well as tinted rear windows (optional on Equinox). The metal on the Terrain is thicker and its styling is more truck-like. Still, you made a good choice on the Terrain. If I was getting one, even a base model, I would have went with the Terrain.

  • @Traycee67 I'd recommend a Jeep Liberty. You can option it out and still save money--PLUS have the assurance that you've purchased a REAL TRUCK: One that can go anywhere your suspension will take you. And there's the cache of the Jeep lable. I was in the same predicament and I wound up buying a Jeep Liberty Limited--leather, nav system, Sirius XM--the works. Again, to each his own, but the Jeep was my choice. ONE THING: The gas milage on the Jeep is AWFUL!

  • @Traycee67 yes, they are both basically the same vehicle. they are based on the same platform, just remember that you will pay a little more for a comparable gmc vs a chevy. personally, i like the looks of the equinox better (a little sportier) but they will be virtually the same.

  • @Traycee67 It all depends which color you like more basically. They're the exact same vehicle, except all the buttons and screens in the Equinox are Blue/Green, and all the buttons and screens in the Terrain are Red/Orange. I personally like the Equinox more .

  • My dad just told me he was looking at getting this SUV. After seeing your video I am sold! I know Ford and GM have caught up to the competition, and this shows!

  • automatic trans. only :( -where's the fun factor?

  • holy crap thats a awesome sound and I HATE CHEVY. love this new one though

  • dont no which 1 i should get equinox or traverse

  • I love your reviews it's like a virtual test drive, please keep them coming.

  • how come the GMC Terrain gets a standard backup camera on all models and the Equinox only gets it on the 2LT?

  • @stopscrewingaround11

The GMC have higher base prices as well...They need to offer something else. I own a 2LT HFV6, it is fitting exactly what I need....Plus everyone that gets in is completely impressed with the interior, both on looks and comfort

  • I love these things! I want this or the Terrain! which one??????!!!!!!!!!! I am kind of nervous about it because We've had like Chevy, GMC, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, which are all GM and the life spand is around 150k and I have Nissan now that currently has 197k and still driving like NEW so do I stay Faithful to GM or go with another Nissan? ohh by the way I drive A LOT! so Thats why my millage is so high! ohh and GM resale value BLOWS!

  • @RedNeck4Obama08 i would go with gm our 1997 chevy silverado 4x4 has 267,097 miles on it and it still has the same vortec moter in it oh and we have had alot of cheveys and all of them went out around 350k miles so idk we do drive alot thats why my mills r high but yeah i would go with chevy but nissan is good also

  • @keithtyler145 wow you must have driven the crap out of it. my 1997 gmc sierra 4x4 has 138,000 and still has the same 350 vortec engine.

  • @GMCman82 we do drive the crap out of vehicles about 2500 miles a week

  • the equinox looks a lot better, those huge fenders on the terrain make it look hideous

  • hahaha! When he finished showing the acceleration, police sirens went off around my house.

  • @paalamih it all depends on what your needs and wants are .the that one fills in the equation better would be the better vehicle for you at least.

  • ROFL! Its exactly the same as the GMC Terrain! The only difference is the basic inside and outside styling! Has the same engine, same interfaces, same MPG, same trim options... etc.

This one also looks too much like a minivan compared to the Terrain that looks more like a true SUV. But I will admit, that Ford Flex is looking nice. I love the captain's seats!

  • @GeneralHoohah

    Well Dahhh!!!

  • We all know they are the same the 2 are GM vehicles. Just like there trucks look about the same. There pickups do look the same just with different badges.

  • Well... all the same I don't like where this is going. When ever GM puts a 4c in a truck/suv... everything goes wrong with it. I'm writing off my old GMC 95 Sonoma this year for a break on my taxes. That thing is the worst truck I've ever driven. Its been breaking down every year since the day I first got it many years ago. EVERYTHING goes wrong with that thing and the engine constantly goes through head gaskets. I don't trust GMC to put a 4c in anything anymore.

  • I don't like where it's going either. I use to be a Chevy man but not so much anymore.

Thats to bad about you're truck I use to own the s10 and it sucked as well. Had the head gasket problem over and over I sold it long ago. I drive a nissan pickup now, but want a US made car so going to get a ford more than likely.

  • I'm getting a GTi MkV! :D 200hp turbo engine that gets 32 mpg and can wipe the floor with a Civic Si, advanced DSG double clutch automatic transmission with manual paddle shifters that can change gears faster than you can blink, good traction control, and really nice interior and options for what you pay for the car.... plus its a sexy looking car and has room for a family in the back, and on a day to day basis its a very comfortable car. :D Can get a used one for about 15-17k.

  • Fords are very good cars these days, you will enjoy it.

  • Your 95 sonoma breaks down all the time cause its a "95"!!!!

  • Or chevy... >.> Sonoma is the same thing as an S10. Same build quality, same parts, same everything. Just a different badge.

  • Yeah.

  • Looks nice. Great iPod interface too. Great MPG. Priced RIGHT. But....when I was buying....1st week Nov....there were none avail.......selling faster than they could make them.

  • I noticed when showing the Fuel Economy display, the last reading is 99 mpg....Not bad! ; )

  • which one is better ? GMC terrain Or CHevy Equinox???

  • @paalamih Drove the Equinox, Chevy was not available. Nice car, but felt cheap inside and I could see how it wouldn't hold its resale very well. I'd go with the Chevy as it is the same chassis and neither offers brand panache or will hold value.

  • There pretty much the same. the only difference is the outside styling.. the terrain with a complex style and the equinoxs is more simple.

  • same car basically. Just diff exterior looks and from what I've heard the transmission reacts better in the equinox

  • i hear that the engines whines like a turbo or its just me ?

  • where is the handbrake???

  • It's a pedal.

  • looks bigger and heavier than Rav4 and CRV, but better MPG. Nice car~

  • GM is coming out with some great products. I don't side either way with Japanese or American products but GM has shown that they can produce some pretty decent cars, enough to compete with Japanese products.

  • chevy all day baby

  • to be honest, im kind of considering GM.

imports have almost always been better, but this thing has best in class mpg, standard 4cyl power, and probably a few others. did they use passenger car standards on this thing instead of truck standards? i wish subaru could get that MPG for the forester. thats a geart car.

  • would you recommend this suv or the honda crv or rav 4? I cant make up my mind

  • Test drive them all. Drive the salesmen crazy. :) The '10 Equinox ups the ante ...

  • Thanks!

  • I am and was a DEVOUT Toyota guy. My parents have had Toyota since 1995.

I am going for GM. They have convinced me that American is the new way to go.

Better fuel-efficiency and they use thicker steel=safer.

Also check out the 2010 GMC Terrain. I may be wrong, but it looks like the Equinox, same features, but more "beefy" if you're into a more "masculine" looking car. ;-)

  • CRV is a chick's car

  • maybe because i AM a girl, so idc.

  • equinox better qulity fuel milage and saftey.

  • @luyuan20 it all depends on how long u'd like to keep these cars. for 1-3 yrs, get GM, that usually as good as they get. 3-5 get either CRV or RAV4. I personally change cars by avg of 5 yrs and wont worry about fixing here and there, and every where (hint GM after 2-3yrs). oh just get the CRV!

  • @luyuan20 i would go with this

  • How does the 4 cylinder engine do in passing on two lane freeways? How's the acceleration at 60-80 mph?

  • its about time gm stepped up... i dont even like american cars but i like what gm is doing with this model and a few others...

  • way to go GM !!!!

  • Nice short review.

  • Chevy did a really good job with this car, i still cant believe how fuel efficient it is because it looks so large! Go Chevy!

  • So far, the best review. You guys don't miss a thing and know exactly what the customer is looking for. Thanks.

  • thats the old vw key fob

  • im just wondering, is it really worth it to get a V6 engine or just stay with 4 cylinder, and excellent review btw

  • This 4 cylinder did just fine in our test, but I'd want to drive 'em both ways (with the 4 and 6) before making a purchase decision. If you haul a lot of stuff (and people) the bigger engine might be worthwhile. If not, you can save a few bucks. Thanks for your support!

  • I'm looking to purchase a 2LT Equinox in the next few weeks but just cant decide whether i should get the 4 or the V6, i've heard alot of people say the 4 is really sluggish and struggles to overtake on the highway, in that case i just cant decide whether the reduced mpg is worth sacrificing in order to get the v6. any thoughts would be much appreciated :)

  • i'd get the v6.

in the main part it's how you drive, rather than what u drive, particularly in a vehicle of this size. although i haven't driven either, the 4 is probably still adequate. :)

  • The V6 gets crappy mileage, but you can tow twice as much. If you don't need to tow, it doesn't make sense to get the V6. You might as well just get a bigger SUV if you want 17 mpg.

  • Every review is saying the 4 cylinder is fine. I don't know where you are seeing "alot of people" saying they personally drove or own it and the 4 cylinder is struggling and so sluggish and super slow. You can test drive and see for your s This elf if it is fast enough for you.

This video even shows an example or it accelerating.

  • I was on the web site and there is a fee because of the tire size for the 4 and 6 cylinder but i think im just staying with the 4 because it will get me where i need to go and 4 wheel drive is an option.

  • ive been driving toyotas for 35 yrs...it looks like its about time to try chevy

  • I went and test drove one today.

Very nice....the leather seats are a must as the cloth feels cheap and tend to be much harder.

  • This is how you review a car.

  • I will buy this on december...

    Nice review 5stars....

  • Top notch review...One of the best I've seen in a while. You should get this show on SpeedTV. They sorely need it._Again, just excellent all-around review,..camera work, info, etc.

  • Thanks for the kind words! We get it all done on a wing, a prayer, and a borrowed shoestring ... :)

  • nice to see them putting 6 speeds in these cars for this year

  • guys the sound is terribly low i cant hear anything from my laptop

  • Sorry about that! :( I haven't been able to test this one from a laptop, but it sounded just fine on a PC with external speakers and an iMac with internals.

  • I agree... even on my pc is very very low... im using 5.1

  • nice, this is also on my list. will test drive one this Sunday.

  • Great video... from now on, when i need a car review I will go to this blog. This is a really nice suv... its seems that Chevy is doing what is necessary to beat their competitors... I'm actually looking for a suv, and this seems to be a very good option.

  • The escape is also a good option. Leased a 2008 v6 model and it was very nice. You should check out his review of the hybrid. I don't think he has a v6 review though.

  • Yep ... I've only been in the 2008 Escape Hybrid, although the Equinox compares more closely to the Edge

  • Really? I thought that it was closer to the escape because it is more of an suv rather than a crossover right? And in the Equinox commercials they say better fuel economy than the cr-v rav4 and escape so it would be in that small suv class right?

  • It's a fuzzy line, but I'd put the Equinox in the CUV, rather than SUV class. The Escape is definitely more truck-like. I'd reckon that the commercials name the CR-V, RAV4, and Escape as they present the most name recognition.

  • What initially were known as small SUVs have turned into crossovers, primarily for construction and marketing reasons. The Escape used to be marketed as a small SUV, and so was the CR-V when it had a truck-like design, but ultimately, they all became SUVs with different looks for different kinds of people and their tastes. You'll note that both Chrysler and Ford's entry and more truck than car like in their design, while the rest are either 'hybrids' or car-on-stills like.

  • No, it's a crossover.

  • Great review, besides the oddly low audio

  • Thanks, Stan! What kind of computer/speakers are you using? It tested out okay on two desktops here.

These YouTube sound issues drive me crazy ... :/

  • Logitech 5.1, I think I just had the audio turned down in my sound driver at the time, it's ok now =D

  • What was the as-tested price (vital info!)?

  • 2010 Equinox AWD 2LT

    Standard Vehicle Price $27,195.00

    add:

  • as always Dan, great review. I love the new Nox but perhaps not in this color!!

  • Thanks, Baja! The navy blue didn't come across as well as it might have in the video ... lighting is always a huge issue.

  • I shared this on GMI

  • Wicked cool ... thanks again!

  • Very Nice! Great Video!

  • Thanks! :)
