@philwestley Hell yeah! It chills me, too! it's our history of our country, beautifully told by such a fuckin great band like Iced Earth! I wonder if teachers and professors in schools who teach American history ever put this cd in the player and listen to the beautiful story told.
An astounding historic metal epic, Ripper was made to song these songs, i would be intrigued to hear Barlow sing them with his melancholic stylings. Ripper does well, both vocalists are excellent, and bring different dimensions to IE.
In my personal opinion, I preferred Ripper with Iced Earth. Gettysburg is a epic masterpiece. But I hated Ripper's contribution with Judas Priest. Barlow with Iced Earth just didn't have the same quality to it, but he was amazing with Pyramaze. That's just my opinion, most of my mates disagree.
One of the most brilliant and emotional pieces of metal music I've ever heard! Tim did an incredible job on this album! I like it when bands write songs based on historical events (I like history very much), and the battle of Gettysburg was the biggest battle during the American civil war if I'm correct.
The lyrical line: "The charge begins in all it's grandeur. For many of these men they know it is the last".
So emotional for me. Fantastic song!Greetings from Sweden
i want to hear a studio version with barlow on this one.....although i believe that The Glorious Burden is an album only Ripper could sing this good....it is like it is written suiting his own voice!!!!!!!
Of all the historical tidbits to come out of this battle, I think the saddest and most telling one came from George Pickett. After the Confederate forces were destroyed in that ill-fated charge on the Union center, Lee told Pickett to gather his division to prepare for a Union counter attack. Pickett replied, "General Lee, I have no division".
Best singer in metal, i don't know :p But he surely made a tremendous job on Glorious Burden, especially Gettysburg. Wonderful, wonderful "song", made me wanna know more about the history of the USA. Thanks John Schaffer!
The Civil War is definitely interesting to learn about my friend. It's strange, it was one of the saddest and most tragic moments in the history of the US - brother fighting against brother. But out of it came a great country that will always be united.
History, in gerneral, is always interesting IMO. Ripper's performance on The Glorious Burden was fantastic , however I didn't like his work on Framing Armageddon.
\m/ What happens here this day , The fate of this nation , in the balance it will hang , consumed with the pain , the courage of the BLUE , the valour of the GREY !!! \m/
Dude you're so right about that war. Listening to this reminded me of how sad it really was. On another note, I like it when bands write songs based on historic events or books, like Maiden's Seventh Son. I picked up the book after listening to it because I had to read about it myself. It's a much better alternative to artist always writing about love and other topics that are cliche' to music.
I haven't heard Barlow sing it, just Owens. I'd like to hear both, to hear the difference. I'm so used to Owens singing it, i probably wouldn't like Barlow's version.
@Violator6996 your a fag' Barlow is a fucking fagg with no Vocal power' i have Every cd'' your just hating on ripper because he's better' vocalist'' fuck wod'' and you get mad' and hate on him'' just like a kid in school'' you know it'' and it bothers you'' your a fucking homo fuck
this was so amazing live i was sceptical abou tripper in IE at first i didnt have the glorius burden before the concert but you can bet after i saw this i went out an gotit

The whole trilogy is amazing, but this song is definitely the pinnacle, at least for me. One of Schaffer's masterpieces.

We're almost there my boys
I've never served with finer
We must push forward boys
And bayonet the yankee tyrants
To the copse of trees we charge
To crush the union center
And when they turn and run
An open road leads us to freedom
brings tears to my eyes every time I hear that verse
