You have to understand that the Veyron has all the stuff that you expect to find in a standard car, CD player, radio, carpets, air conditioning etc, it hasn't been modified and stripped out to be a pure bred racer, the Veyron also weighs something like 2.5 tons.

The Veyron isn't just famous because its fast. Its the fact that its a luxury car as well. That its quiet on the inside. it doesnt rattle, it has a working entertainment system, etc. anyone can slap some turbos on a big engined car like the viper or corvette and be faster than the veyron.

@crisped100 we were talking about viper and veyron, but anyway, the 2010 acr is top notch around a track very few cars can beat it and by few I mean 2 to 5 cars, the 2012 gtr35 cannot in a track, in a straight line yes, no doubt, I am a big time gtr 35 alpha 12 fan, I've been into gtr35 since 2009 so I know somethings about them, if tuned correctly the gtr has almost no competition in a straight line, underground gallardos (1500hp) are top competition, but yes gtr is an amazing machine no doubt.
@ralphM1114 true, yet the acr-x seems the way to go for me, the veyron is an amazing machine made to break speed records, that will be broken by other cars then reset, and so on and on, to me it seems ridiculously overpriced, for such tag it should outrun every car on the tracks but it doesnt, its a great car but the price tag is way too much for what it can do, besides the 2.5 secs 0-60 and the 260+mph reachable speed am not impressed at all by anything else.

To go from 500hp to 1000hp or even 1200hp, its not only by replacing the turbos, a complete and major work to the engine has to be done, from the fuel pump, injectors, forged pistons, intake manifold yadayadayada. In an internal combustion engine, to raise the output power, you only have 3 ways: increase displacement, increase rpm and add more air compression in venom you have all the 3. Cant be considered «minor tweaks»
Notice the absence of well spin, apart from the standing start, and even those are computer controlled to warm-up the tires and get a better grip. Lets not forget the veyron was produced in 2005 !! The venom viper is late 2008 model, and it has a lot more than just want you mentioned, dddjjf, almost all on the engine compartment was redone: the intake, exhaust, the engine all was remanufactured etc etc

Im not such a huge veyron fan, but I recon its merit. Bugatti merged two volkwagen V8 engines onto one another, and then let both of them share the same crankshaft. This configuration creates the W16 engine, therefore it is required 4 turbos. Also notice that buggatti wanted to build a drivable 1000hp car hypothetically it can be driven by everybody in almost any street, to do so, you will need awd, and some computer-controlled systems.

Although, I have seen the Veyron be beat, on tracks, by cars with up to 400 horsepower less. My point was the Veyron is completely useless unless it's in a straight line, it's not even impressive then.
I completely agree that veyron can be beat by cars with far less horsepower, just it depends on what cars are we talking about . Are they stock? Are they intended for track use or street use? Are they luxurious and exotic cars? A couple years ago Ive seen a smart with a haybusa engine smoke a Ferrari F360 and what? Take a look at the Gumpert Apollo, or the Ascari A10, they both have 620-640 horsepower, and beat the Veyron on Top Gear. Now those aren't some cheap economy cars swapped with a racing engine. They're stock, and pretty damn luxurious cars.

The Veyron weighs so much, because their designing was so primitive, they put 10 radiators on it. They couldn't just find two effictient intercoolers for the turbos, and 1 big radiator for the engine.
Well, the 10 radiators has nothing to do with the intercoolers, they are used as follows: 3 radiators for the engine cooling system. 1 heat exchanger for the air-to-liquid intercoolers. 2 for the air conditioning system. 1 transmission oil radiator. 1 differential oil radiator. 1 engine oil radiator. 1 hydraulic oil radiator for the spoiler
Of course you knew, like you know about radiators in general. A little knowledge about thermodynamics would hurt (its not a play station game!) and you may understand why its not possible to use a 1 small aluminum radiator. Btw even my 1st car, a 1971 datsun, had more than 1 radiator. A Ford-T from 1908 had 1 radiator that was primitive design !

Gun944, I think that the Veyron in here may cost about 1.2M € but whoever wants to buy a Veyron is not thinking about its price, or the fuel consumption (unfortunately this isnt my case). In here GTS-T are very rare as well as the Porsche 928, its much easier to see a Ferrari (even the all mighty F40) and 911s than any front engine Porsche. Anyway, all great cars!

Doubtful. They tested the Veyron there before they released it. I sincerely doubt they would have an amateur drive an expensive car around the worlds hardest race track. Plus Wheels magazine did a run back in 05.
That amateur in question was a test engineer as stated from Bugatti website. Wheels Magazine did run but their lap time was an estimation, not real result. After seeing how Veyron handles tight corner on Prescott Hills, twisted mountain road and Anneau du Ring trrack, it is clear it can reach less than 7:30" similar to Nissan GTR which is as heavy as Veyron. Little known fact was Nurburgring was used for T-System simulator by Bugatti.

But there is a simple reason why american cars are "crappy". They are build to last only a few years. But what I don't get is why ABS, ESP and headrests aren't standart on the american market. Even european import cars don't have them always.
On the race: The Veyron is a GT which at the same time happens to be a extremly powerfull Hypercar. Just take a look how the Venom struggles to get the power down. It may be faster in a line, but also a certain way to crash if you are not a pro.
Lol what about Euro cars like Ferrari? You drive them for 30,000 miles and they start falling apart. Then you have to start shelling out cash for repairs. Can't forget all of those high tech electronic systems on the BMW's that are always failing. At least BMW stands behind their product though. The only really reliable cars are Japanese. The Euros may be reliable fundamentally but they end up putting tons of cutting edge technology in them which makes them break all the time too.
Funny, my boss has been driving in the last 6 years two 5series, a 7series and now a 6series. I am now driving the a 5 Series as a company car and my best friend a 3 series.
So the entire range is covered but not one of them has ever failed us so far. Of cause this could be coincidence, but the only thing which is anoying is the i-drive IMHO.
And the cutting edge technology is necessary to rise above the competetors. A S-class without a brand new gadget? No way.
Y'know I hate when people say that German cars are over-engineered and thus unreliable. Sure, some modern technologies haven't been perfected yet resulting in some cases poorer reliability. BUT without these advances we would be stuck with the same old boring low-tech cars from years past. It's called evolution. That's like saying cavemen did without shampoo so why wash your hair.
Some of that is true but do you care to explain VW's are unreliable? They are not exactly cutting edge like a BMW or Porsche and yet they will not run as long as other more simple cars like Hondas or Toyotas. Extra tech isn't always good either. A pushrod Corvette Z06 uses less technology and still embarrasses some high tech cars that cost three times as much or more.
Do you really believe a Z06 will outlast a "costs 3X more" Ferrari/Lambo? The ZR1 is a nice car for the money, but come one! There's a reason it's cheap..... relatively.

They make a beautiful car but the facts are facts and I doubt Lambos are any better. The only things that are unreliable on a Corvette are the electronics and sometimes the transmission if you run it too hard. I'm going to have to agree with you there. Though Lambo is far better than than it used to be since Audi took ownership. And I think more reliable than a Ferrari too.

The R8 is not old enough to be proven. Wait a few years and see how it is.
Also, I checked up on the vette and it actually gets bad marks for the drive system and fuel system instead of the tranny and also for electronics and power accessories. It also gets a reliability crappy rating but it is still better than something like a Ferrari. The Euros tend to have similar problems give or take a few things. Porsche is usually above average, BMW and Audi are average and Benz, well...sucks.
As far as vette reliability. Yes, they are pretty unreliable but they are not any worse than most European cars in their class other than a Porsche, which outlasts almost every other performance car. The other plus is that the engine is flawless on the Corvette which is more than I can say for some of its competition.
I don't believe you could call Audi or BMW average in reliability. Also, the R8's V8 is the same engine used in the Audis RS4 so reliabilty is proven. As for the Corvette engine being flawless; How do you draw that conclusion? Most 'vettes are modifyed early in their life making reliabilty of the stocck motor difficult to gauge long term.
Furthermore, I'm not really disputing how good the ZR! is, just, given the choice between the ZR1 or a Ferrari or Lamborghini, I feel confident most would choose the latter two. Lets be clear, the ZR1 through no fault of bine is always being compared to Ferraris and Lambos. The respective prices put them in different classes, but the comparisons continue.
I get consumer reports magazine who calls most Audis and BMWs average based on the large number of vehicles in their study. Obviously, they also study Corvettes and they only look at stock vehicles. As far as those LS small block engines, they are used in a lot of project cars, kit cars and also have bigger brothers in racing. All are proven and C.R. seems to support this statement too.
Stock Koenigsegg Agera R is faster than that. 0-200 mph in 17.7 seconds.

You have to understand that the Veyron has all the stuff that you expect to find in a standard car, CD player, radio, carpets, air conditioning etc, it hasn't been modified and stripped out to be a pure bred racer, the Veyron also weighs something like 2.5 tons.

The Veyron isn't just famous because its fast. Its the fact that its a luxury car as well. That its quiet on the inside. it doesnt rattle, it has a working entertainment system, etc. anyone can slap some turbos on a big engined car like the viper or corvette and be faster than the veyron.

@crisped100 we were talking about viper and veyron, but anyway, the 2010 acr is top notch around a track very few cars can beat it and by few I mean 2 to 5 cars, the 2012 gtr35 cannot in a track, in a straight line yes, no doubt, I am a big time gtr 35 alpha 12 fan, I've been into gtr35 since 2009 so I know somethings about them, if tuned correctly the gtr has almost no competition in a straight line, underground gallardos (1500hp) are top competition, but yes gtr is an amazing machine no doubt.

To go from 500hp to 1000hp or even 1200hp, its not only by replacing the turbos, a complete and major work to the engine has to be done, from the fuel pump, injectors, forged pistons, intake manifold yadayadayada. In an internal combustion engine, to raise the output power, you only have 3 ways: increase displacement, increase rpm and add more air compression in venom you have all the 3. Cant be considered «minor tweaks»

Notice the absence of well spin, apart from the standing start, and even those are computer controlled to warm-up the tires and get a better grip. Lets not forget the veyron was produced in 2005 !! The venom viper is late 2008 model, and it has a lot more than just want you mentioned, dddjjf, almost all on the engine compartment was redone: the intake, exhaust, the engine all was remanufactured etc etc

Pi, as you know is aprox. 3,14, also known as the Archimedes constant
B=bore=diameter of the cylinder formed by the piston head
Stroke=the travel length of the piston as you see, it has nothing to do with the intake nor the exhaust nor the turbos

Im not such a huge veyron fan, but I recon its merit. Bugatti merged two volkwagen V8 engines onto one another, and then let both of them share the same crankshaft. This configuration creates the W16 engine, therefore it is required 4 turbos. Also notice that buggatti wanted to build a drivable 1000hp car hypothetically it can be driven by everybody in almost any street, to do so, you will need awd, and some computer-controlled systems.

upped displacment the ball bearing twin turbos are the only power adders so im right.. no argument needed .. because the other upgrades are bigger diferential , bigger brakes, bigger wheels , bigger tires and a venom aero body kit. wich respectibly increaes down force and top speed capabilitys. so im by far not a moron. and i can prove that without cursing or trash talk

i'll start off by saying i dont like the Veyron much. I dont think it has much going for its looks and its... German-ness lol.
I have always liked the Viper, especially the looks and the noise.
However, i HATE smarmy americans who think an all american car made of stripped out melted down canoes and oxen cart chassis technology, with a truck engine and some turbos, that everytime you drive it on the road makes your ears bleed...is possibly a better engineered car than the Veyron!

ok now im gonna try not to curse but dont call me a moron.becuz im trying to explain to you that the veyron engine is not a conventional 16.go look the displacment and trans gears up the final drive ratio is very low.wich explains its excelaration but not top speed because the engines displacment is high but its bore is not a 8.6 liter like the viper.. and 2 the viper is runing a high boost ofcourse however its not a blown quad turbo. and check on those turbos. 9.0:1 compresion ratio.thats high

Although, I have seen the Veyron be beat, on tracks, by cars with up to 400 horsepower less. Take a look at the Gumpert Apollo, or the Ascari A10, they both have 620-640 horsepower, and beat the Veyron on Top Gear. Now those aren't some cheap economy cars swapped with a racing engine. They're stock, and pretty damn luxurious cars.

The Veyron weighs so much, because their designing was so primitive, they put 10 radiators on it. They couldn't just find two effictient intercoolers for the turbos, and 1 big radiator for the engine.

Well, the 10 radiators has nothing to do with the intercoolers, they are used as follows: 3 radiators for the engine cooling system. 1 heat exchanger for the air-to-liquid intercoolers. 2 for the air conditioning system. 1 transmission oil radiator. 1 differential oil radiator. 1 engine oil radiator. 1 hydraulic oil radiator for the spoiler

In here GTS-T are very rare as well as the Porsche 928, its much easier to see a Ferrari (even the all mighty F40) and 911s than any front engine Porsche. Anyway, all great cars!

u stupid shit. the viper has way better engineering than then veyron the veyron has 4 turbos, all wheel drive ,a nd a 16.4 liter v12. thats alot of power adders for such a well enginnered car,overly armed peice of shit. engineering is when you add twin turbos to a car and do some cam timing and turn out a hennesey.. thats real engineering.. anybody can put all wheel drive and 4 turbos on a civic and make it super fast... but thats not engineering. thats a completly blown engine. thats NHRA shit.

did you read anything about that lap time? they had to MODIFY the car to get that time!!!!!!! they tuned it to get it to go that fast. tweeked is more like it. as to where nissan drove a R34 on the track and just went balls to the wall. im sorry but vipers just dont impress me at all. and again it goes to show a stock showroom viper...not a special edition....will not beat a vette around a road course. so quit arguing becuase ive seen a viper get its ass whooped at Watkins Glenn :-) by a vette!!

lol oh really.. well do u remember the 06 car and driver when the z06 beat the srt10 in round 1.. now in round 2 in 07 the viper took a shit on that z06.. correct ok... viper is an incrdible car.. all there is to it.. and that acr has less power than the stock version.. it only has less weight and its more aerodynamic

i never said it wasent a nice car. all im saying is to really make itsspecial you have to put work into it. stock vipers dont perform like a Z06/ZR1, R8, 911TT on a road course. i dont really care ifthey can take a viper and make it fast. if im buying a sports car im lookin at all the aspects of it, not just how fast it can go and the viper has never gotten good reviews on road courses becuase it just dosent stick. other than that its a sweet car! but id prefer something more sporty. thats all

Road and Track said the same about the Z06 Corvette - 'It is not very often we test a car that is as Stupid-Fast as the Corvette.' Now they made the Zr1. Amazing.

Veyron never raced on Nurburgring track for time attack. 7:40 is only for touring session with traffic done by an amateur.

Doubtful. They tested the Veyron there before they released it. I sincerely doubt they would have an amateur drive an expensive car around the worlds hardest race track. Plus Wheels magazine did a run back in 05.

That amateur in question was a test engineer as stated from Bugatti website. Wheels Magazine did run but their lap time was an estimation, not real result. After seeing how Veyron handles tight corner on Prescott Hills, twisted mountain road and Anneau du Ring trrack, it is clear it can reach less than 7:30" similar to Nissan GTR which is as heavy as Veyron. Little known fact was Nurburgring was used for T-System simulator by Bugatti.

But there is a simple reason why american cars are "crappy". They are build to last only a few years. But what I don't get is why ABS, ESP and headrests aren't standart on the american market. Even european import cars don't have them always.
On the race: The Veyron is a GT which at the same time happens to be a extremly powerfull Hypercar. Just take a look how the Venom struggles to get the power down. It may be faster in a line, but also a certain way to crash if you are not a pro.

Lol what about Euro cars like Ferrari? You drive them for 30,000 miles and they start falling apart. Then you have to start shelling out cash for repairs. Can't forget all of those high tech electronic systems on the BMW's that are always failing. At least BMW stands behind their product though. The only really reliable cars are Japanese. The Euros may be reliable fundamentally but they end up putting tons of cutting edge technology in them which makes them break all the time too.

Funny, my boss has been driving in the last 6 years two 5series, a 7series and now a 6series. I am now driving the a 5 Series as a company car and my best friend a 3 series.
So the entire range is covered but not one of them has ever failed us so far. Of cause this could be coincidence, but the only thing which is anoying is the i-drive IMHO.
And the cutting edge technology is necessary to rise above the competetors. A S-class without a brand new gadget? No way.

Y'know I hate when people say that German cars are over-engineered and thus unreliable. Sure, some modern technologies haven't been perfected yet resulting in some cases poorer reliability. BUT without these advances we would be stuck with the same old boring low-tech cars from years past. It's called evolution. That's like saying cavemen did without shampoo so why wash your hair.

Some of that is true but do you care to explain VW's are unreliable? They are not exactly cutting edge like a BMW or Porsche and yet they will not run as long as other more simple cars like Hondas or Toyotas. Extra tech isn't always good either. A pushrod Corvette Z06 uses less technology and still embarrasses some high tech cars that cost three times as much or more.

Are you kidding me? Yes. Ferraris run for like 35,000 miles at best before tons of parts start failing you have to start paying their ridiculous repair costs. I love Ferrari. They make a beautiful car but the facts are facts and I doubt Lambos are any better. The only things that are unreliable on a Corvette are the electronics and sometimes the transmission if you run it too hard. If you wanted to talk Euro reliability you should have brought up Porsche because Ferrari won't get you anywhere.

The R8 is not old enough to be proven. Wait a few years and see how it is.
Also, I checked up on the vette and it actually gets bad marks for the drive system and fuel system instead of the tranny and also for electronics and power accessories. It also gets a reliability crappy rating but it is still better than something like a Ferrari. The Euros tend to have similar problems give or take a few things. Porsche is usually above average, BMW and Audi are average and Benz, well...sucks.

As far as vette reliability. Yes, they are pretty unreliable but they are not any worse than most European cars in their class other than a Porsche, which outlasts almost every other performance car. The other plus is that the engine is flawless on the Corvette which is more than I can say for some of its competition.

I don't believe you could call Audi or BMW average in reliability. Also, the R8's V8 is the same engine used in the Audis RS4 so reliabilty is proven. As for the Corvette engine being flawless; How do you draw that conclusion? Most 'vettes are modifyed early in their life making reliabilty of the stocck motor difficult to gauge long term.

Furthermore, I'm not really disputing how good the ZR! is, just, given the choice between the ZR1 or a Ferrari or Lamborghini, I feel confident most would choose the latter two. Lets be clear, the ZR1 through no fault of bine is always being compared to Ferraris and Lambos. The respective prices put them in different classes, but the comparisons continue.

I get consumer reports magazine who calls most Audis and BMWs average based on the large number of vehicles in their study. Obviously, they also study Corvettes and they only look at stock vehicles. As far as those LS small block engines, they are used in a lot of project cars, kit cars and also have bigger brothers in racing. All are proven and C.R. seems to support this statement too.
