There's no such thing as Iyengar yoga, Ashtanga yoga or whatever.Yoga is just one and that's.The whole purpose of yoga practice is to unite the body and mind so that the two can work in harmony with no conflict and bring peace within with the goal of reaching samadhi one day which is beyond most yoga practitioners; only a few who are chosen with honest practice of the eight limbs ever reach it. So forget about denominations&think about the aim of yoga then you'll understand.
Iyengar Yoga is much more than using blocks and straps and whips and chains! BKS Iyengar developed a system that integrates Patanjali's 8 limbs of Ashtanga Yoga into the practice. The practice encompasses Patanjali's teachings for the development of the mind through the use of the body for the integration of the soul. It is better for an experienced Iyengar Yoga practitioner to describe Iyengar Yoga as opposed to someone who is not completely informed.
Ha ha, love it.
