I really like this song i recently post a video, its a version of this song of my own. and i really like you and everyone to check it out and tell me what you think. The video is a slideshow dedicated to my girlfirend, but the song was recorded all by me using very basic software and directly to the microphone of my laptop. Please check it out. The title is:
The wrestler cover Para el amor y luz de mi vida: Olimpia. check it
I stated in a comment that I related alot to this song and some moron asked me if I was a 50 year old, ugly, washed up wrestler. Anyone that had a tough going with life could relate to this song metaphorically. Life can beat the living hell out of you especially if you have a big heart. When you think with your heart, not your brain, you come out on the losing end alot of times. It is a theme that Bruce uses in most of his songs. Anyway, painfully great song.
All good songs use metaphors effectively. That guy doesn't get it. You can identify with this song, which is why it works. You can't identify with, say, that Vanilla Ice song from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, because, well, you'd have to be a mutant ninja turtle.
The female equivalent is the high school girl that writes poems without any metaphors whatsoever: "You hurt me so bad / I'm feeling so sad / In the school cafeteria / This poem is rad"
I LOVE this song. And the film. Just saw it today for the 2nd time. Mickey Rourke deserves a best actor nomination, if not a win, as well. And Bruce's song is beautiful, sparse, and haunting-yet-hopeful, much like the film. I can't wait to hear/have the final thing!
I believe we might have the Academy Award for Best Original Song here, I saw Bruce in concert in Charlotte, NC in April, GREAT show, pushing 60 and he's still rocks
i saw the film and it truly is amazing. unbelievably done. I've never felt that much sympathy for a character in so long. Finally a film that felt raw.
This song was awesome. I stayed for the credits. I wish it was released. Once this film gets played by fox in a release, for sure this is at the Oscars.

This Bruce song fits in, does the job. But it is as a second, wasted, breath compared to the great NEBRASKA songs.

My only faith is in the broken bones and bruises I display"

the lyrics are great!!!
Then you've seen me, I come and stand at every door
Then you've seen me, I always leave with less than I had before
Then you've seen me, bet I can make you smile when the blood, it hits the floor
Tell me, fan, can you ask for anything more?
Tell me can you ask for anything more?
