  • wow, it sounds like this guitar can really

     sustain.

  • where this made?

  • the problem withheadstock not having a ton of tilt is the problems you get with fenders vs gibsons. on a fender the headstock lies flat so the strings are much more prone to movement past the nut because of a lack of pressure. hence the need for string trees. on a gibson the tilt creates the pressure needed to stop that vibration from happening. while the headstock is actually a flaw in the design of the guitar, the gibson style with the tilt is a much much better design than that of a fender.

  • it reminds me of my ltd. except my ltd is a better guitar. i payed close to a grand but it might as well be an esp. i do like these guitars though if i didnt already have a guitar that looks like this and plays as amazingly as mine does i would buy one in a heartbeat

  • I own a Patriot Premium with the Tiger's Eye finish. Absolutely beautiful. It's like a Les Paul with the smoothest ESP neck. Best thing I've ever played and only payed $800 I believe.

I got mine from Musician's Friend but I can't find them there now. I guess Google is always a good place to start looking. Then maybe eBay.

  • I own a Patriot Custom. Nicest playing guitar I've ever had. The Rockfields are a little low in output, though, and weak under heavy gain. But, they sound amazing clean. Very smokey and perfect for jazz.

  • man i got the Michael Kelly Vex Verdict its all the same except the upper "face" binding. It is definitely a best buy and the sound, the design are the best i have ever seen...You can play heavy metal and stuff like this and you are getting the maximum believe me and you can also play clean without the shity distortion that most of guitars like Esp,Ltd,Jackson etc...

  • @lmsjr Are those VEX series that are Made in Vietnam have the same quality, sound and most of all good quality of materials and craftmanship the same as the those made in the U.S?

  • nice guitar

  • i love this guitar

    im gunna order it soon!!

i cant wait to get it

  • Great job !

  • I have one in black. EMG pick ups. Drop C. Soooo metal. Best metal guitar I've ever played.

  • Comment removed

  • Just ordered mine $430 BRAND FREAKIN NEW!!!!!!!!!

  • @Archermahly were from??

  • i love these guitars!! they are so awesome!!!! there is a music store by me that sells michael kelly and i played with this same one and i fell in love. this is truely an amazing guitar!!! i honestly think these are better than a Gibson!!

  • great review on the guitar:) it kinda looks like my schecter hellraiser, I searched for michael kelly guitars in europe and there are easily to get. If my students wants to pick up a good guitar I would deffinetly recommend a michael kelly. really cool stuff for a great price :) so thanks for the review ;)

  • @hellsing1983 I believe this is actually the same as a Schecter C-1. Built at the same factory. Higher spec, lower price. I'm just about to order mine. :)

  • @SumoRabbitOfDoom coulde be, but maybe the michael kelly has a higher spec on the first hellraiser not on the second, cause that has some improvements like coilsplitters. And the sustain on the schecter is also incredible :D

  • about 5 months ago i got the michael kelly vex 2 but i got it at yesterdays music... best guitar i have ever played.. its so easy to play the neck feels like its not even there.... its amazing great sound too

  • you should apply for partnership

  • i wanna know the price for that guitar !!!

  • @zawdamnit about 650 usd

  • So is there another practical purpose for having binding on the guitar other than it being useful to identify your guitar on a dark stage and for looks?

  • This is similar to the Schecter C-1 Hellraiser... awesome guitar and this looks awesome it self

  • Firehouse Music has locations in Michigan and Georgia and usually they usually have a couple Michael Kellys in stock.

  • I just bought this exact same guitar. it's amazing

  • i just ordered that same exact guitar online yesterday ahah

  • Stephen's Music In Calhoun Georgia Carries em. Great Place. Been dealin with them since I started playing. Good guys, great fiddles, everything you need. If youre ever in GA, come find our little town. We know music. :]

  • wow you really like Michael Kelly stuff dont ya wich i cant say as i blame ya ive got a patriot black and i love it and hope to here soon get a glory in the new red color they come in now

  • For fucks sake stop saying binding!

  • hey i have the same guitar i had a warlock but it was stolen so i went to music center canada and i sat down with it. wicked thrash guitar no problems with it its great. mine is black and has white acid wash. i picked it up on sale for 700 bones. rockfield pickups.... great guitar did i mention it was 700 bucks ...(canada)

  • I feel bad that you would waste $700 on a warlock haha

  • Played it, IMO didn't like it as much as my Schecter. It felt too small n light (dusn't suit me).

Sound wise was quite awesome but feel wise... not my style.

  • I have a Schecter too,but I would like to try this one too

  • Thank you for the post;I'm a particular guy when it comes to food or my musical instrument, your vid really sold M.K. to me because a company that shows that kind of attention to detail is trying to make a good instrument usually and you better get them while their good and owned by the senior company before Fender or Gibson buys them out and turns them into a shadow of their former selves like what happened to Jackson and Hamer.Well anyway thanks.

  • Childers music in Portsmouth,Ohio carries the Michael Kelly line.!

  • theres an MK dealer in aberdeen N.C. MOORE MUSIC

  • Where did you get that MK? I want to know because now i would really like to have a guitar like that

  • ESP does set through, and so does Schecter.

  • McNaught is the originator of Set-thru. Check him out!

  • If you live in West Virginia, head out to the Pied Piper in Charleston. I picked up a Michael Kelly Patriot Black in black satin and it is freakin amazing.

  • For English dudes, check out Barnsley, Jaxx Music, Inthe Center - Peel Street. Bit Priceyer than online but worth it cos you know exactly what you buy. Check it out

  • Nice sound man!!! Whick Rockfield pickups does this guitar have?

    Thanks!!!!

  • I believe they are the Rockfield Mafia set,, That even comes with the Hex Xt series.

  • rockfield mafia's

  • if you live in indiana, the music shop "Mac's Music" in shelbyville sells michael kelly guitars, the owner mac told me about them himself,

  • Can you do a gear review on the fender frontman 25r guitar amp thanks

  • u can get a micheal kelly down here in washington missouri in river city they have lots its a small shop down here

  • I agree that it looks like the Hellraiser of Schecter. Anyway it looks good

  • Hey I need to know if anyone owns a Michael Kelly Hex XT Im looking on buying one, so I need some reviews lol.

  • i wish the headstock was reverssseeee lol

  • does anyone know where to get a hex deluxe on Long island? thanks

  • anyone? i really need to know where i can find one of these

  • ESP make set thru aswell

  • by the way... i heard of set-thru before watching this vid xD

  • Can you get these in Guitar Center?

  • They never have any in stock at the GC by my house.

  • I bought a Michael Kelly at GC but it was used so they probably don't stock them.

You might have to order it from musicians friend.

  • looks rediculously similar to the Schecter C-1 Hellraiser that I have on my left

  • .... wow. i was just thinkin the same thing. and my hellraiser is to my left too. whoa.

  • Patriot Custome owner here. Superb

  • I HAVE THAT ONE! Its by far the best guitar I've used.. so far anyway

  • I've been researching these guitars and I've head nothing but good things about them. They sound beautiful and look incredible. I'm really considering about geting the Hex Delux because i like the floyd rose on it. But i also like the binding on the Vex, which the hex doesn't have, so im a bit stumped. And also the Hex doesn't come with Rockfiel mafia pickups

  • childers music in portsmouth, ohio deals with all michael kelly guitars....check em out.

  • very similar to the Schecter Hellraiser,

    Looks Good and Sounds good

Love the way the headstock was made

  • I have that guitar luv it

  • Hey Tone King, love the reviews you realize your review is the one on the Michael Kelly Website Awesome!!!!

  • i dont really think Michael Kelly's are that hard to find, the guitar shop i always go to right in town has almost all Michael Kelly guitars, and i love just going in there and playing them, great guitars

  • i have a micheal kelly patriot custom in black fade....i love it :P

  • Thanks TW - BTW - I google searched the same ... this video review ranked in at #5 on the search list. As for the neck - correct, I meant the fretboard. However, there are some guitars out there that have 'macassar' necks - which are solid, hardened ebony. I always appreciate the comments, and am happy that you took the time to write in. Best,

  • Thanks for the review man helped me decide to get it a couple months back it's awesome

  • @lmsjr I'm looking at getting a krank rev jr. 20 watt, because i'm uping all my equipment, what are your thoughts?

  • You're an asscan. He plays just fine, does good reviews and has fun doing it. Go back to your bedroom and slay the dragons you nitwit.

  • @TravuhsWree Fuck off

  • And also, the headstock not being tilted results in a significant loss of sustain because the break-angle is more flat = less tension = less sustain. As far as I'm concerned, if it has Grover tuners (which it does) and a lubricated nut or a graphite nut, the break angle wouldn't affect tuning stability, meaning the strings wouldn't bind regardless, I have no idea why they would flatten the break angle.

  • And to the video poster, I ASSUME you mean by "ebony neck" ebony FRETBOARD? The neck is not made of ebony, no guitars I know of have necks fully made of ebony. That would be RIDICULOUS.

  • SET-THRU, it's essentially a combination of all three methods, there is a bolt on pocket, a long neck plank, (not necessarily longer scale length) and glue.

It's generally more stable and offers more sustain and tone, there is also next to NO hell joint or backplate on bolt on necks, great method of construction in my opinion.

  • Isn't the binding also supposed to make it harder to chip the paint??

  • i dont get it how is a set thru different from a set neck? which gibson have been using since forever? dont get me wrong i love these guitars but what are you on about with the set thru neck thing...please some one enlighten me i feel i am missing something

  • Well I've heard it makes it sound better when set into the guitar instead on. It also allows you to get higher up on the neck, because the guitar doesn't need any thick point for screws or glue. And I assume that it makes the neck have a better chance of not coming detached from the body.

  • im not a hundred percent sure but i think that set thru is just like a neck through but glued on like a set neck. Most people believe that a bold on has less sustain and more attack while a set neck has more sustain and better tone because there is more contact between the wood. But set necks cost alot more to get repaired and a hell of alot more to get replaced. so im not sure what the set thru means because i believe that the bolt on characteristics come from the amount of wood contact

  • Uhm dude, you do realize neck thrus are basically just bodies with necks going all the way through glued on?

And what are you talking about? You only break guitar necks if you REALLY want to break them or something REALLY strong breaks it. You don't "replace" anything, what would you replace?

Contact is not exactly what you mean, bolts on have full contact, for the most part, they aren't glued on so there is less transfer of vibrations between the neck and the body = less sustain and tone.

  • Im having this guitar with EMG pups :) I dont like the head much tho

  • Very nice, I love that head. The LTD H-1000 iwas my favorite with Mayones. But since ESP was stupid enough to change the head for that series(ill never forgive them for that) I had to find other things. Im really thinking about this one.

  • I have the original Rev JR and the Pro. If your going to gig definately go with the Rev Jr pro. The 20 watt version is plenty loud. I have'nt played the 50 watt. It must be loud as hell. I love this amp. It's very versatile , compact and very loud. Best new amp for the $.

  • I think you can get some of them from Musicians' Friend. But most of those are the low end or mid0level models (the mids are still awesome guitars).

  • How do you like the Rev jr?

Does it have a good clean?

Im thinking about buying the new 50 watt version do you think it would be loud enough for most gigs?

  • btw, esp also has set necks.esp ltd h-1000.best guitar i ever bought

  • if you cant find one, if you really love the binding, get an esp ltd h or m or mn 1000.same exact guitar.if you dont need the looks, go for the 500 series.the same exact guitar

  • I just bought a Hex Deluxe Love it Amazing guitar's. They deserve so much more customers.

  • how much was it????????

  • £499 from local guitar shop

  • Awesome video, awesome guitar.

  • dude... nice details review... fuck man i want one of them.... your right its the small details in craftmanship that makes a big difference in the end!!!

  • They're actually very common in Australia.

  • Ibanez Sz 320: same neck construction..."set through."

  • musicians friend has a hex for 670 with an original floyd rose, emgs 81/85 and grovers. i have it. greates guitar i have ever played

  • hey man i just bought a valor x series guitar

  • binding binding binding binding binding binding binding binding binding binding

  • christ almighty, how many times can he say binding?

  • Man, no offence, but this is not a review : i am very curious about this guitar, i think is a good guitar, but you just keep talking and not playing : no clean sound, bad caption on the camera mic...Maybe another video!

  • got mine at my local backstreet hole in the wall music store

  • wait...

    i will get this guitar,

    but

i thought it was EMG Pickups!

    this is different...

  • i got some EMG's on this baby and in no way is that a bad thing

  • The hex deluxe has emg pickups, the vex nv has rockfield pickups.

  • hey thx man;)

  • Atually i left soemthing out. The hex deluxe has emg, the vex deluxe also has emg, and the vex nv has rockfield.

  • I know Schecter does the set-thru joint on their guitars. I have bolt-on, set and through, and I personally like the sound and feel of the through body neck the most. It has a very deep, rich tone.

  • Esp ltd has a copple guitars that are set through!

  • wow...... this is amz

  • looks like a schecter hellraiser :P

  • I just got this and put in some custom emgs holy shit its fucking amazing

  • how do u know if its binding or paint?

  • hi man im just wondering if you maby know where i can get an esp ecipse ctm in america please give me the website then !

  • schecter has been doing set through with alot of the guitars. mainly the hellraiser series. the reason. is to make it cheaper. if you know about emg's oull know that that they do not rely on the tone/sustain to get there tone. thus why pay for neck throug construction?

  • hell yeah they sound killer, i played a exotic warlock with a fatass pickup in it and it blew me away

  • Just got me one of these in black vapour rather than red the pearl inlays on the neck are something else you must buy one of these if you can you wont regret it if ive enough money at xmas im gonna get the vex deluxe version.

  • Excellent review man. Can you do a full "tonal spectrum" review of the Krank Rev Jr.? That would be amazing...

  • Great review. You covered all the important points. Nice guitar too. I'm dying of G.A.S. here.

  • that rev jr. sounds nice

  • the set threw neck was invinted by bc rich its a bc rich thing but michael kelly and bc rich are owned by the same company

  • Damn man I'm Green with Envy I've been drooling over that guitar for the last 6months since i found out about it. and now you made me want it even more.

  • Really cool review, very thorough, and better than some reviews done by national magazines on their CD-ROMS. I was wondering what kind of tuners does it have and how's the stability? My guess is it's pretty good, as they put so much into the rest of the guitar. Keep up the good work man!

  • sounds and looks like a solid guitar, i like that guitar.

  • musicains friend has them, the Michael Kelly Black is my favorite.

  • sweet guitar, my friend! sounds great - looks kinda like a Schecter, which I quite like as well. You're right, ebony isn't seen as much...
