I've delt with stares, I'm 6'0 I do stick out, but I felt like an even bigger freak than before.
Asian women are very beautiful . But in my circles were I see alot of asians of diffrent shades . The ones with the darker complexion just drive men crazy . They look so exotic . Filipina and thai are probally the darkest I have seen . And very beautiful I must say. If the men in there country dont apprectiate there beauty . That's because dark skin are usually associated with peasants in China, because of the tan they get during outdoor labour. This is also why the Chinese were the first to make, umbrellas, fans, silk coats, etc. lol. Geishas, Chinese opera singers, etc are all evident of this.

In both countries, the majority of the models, actors, and people considered high class are fair skinned. There are some successful persons who are dark, but not in the profession where their faces are regularly made public. Even my ex-wife (who is Thai) boasts about her fair skin.

Asia is mostly an offshoot of the old hierarchal system where gentry class were distinguished from lower working class, not just for clothing or money, but also for having lighter skin and more delicate appearance. It's because lower class people, including women, had to work outside a lot, which would give those people darker skin tone and rougher appeareance (skin, hands, etc).

The problem I have with culture is that, while it can teach a lot of good values, it also dictates what is good and bad taste, or socially acceptable, or what is childish and what is mature, what defines a successful person, or in this case, correct skin tones. It is true, I live in Koreatown USA and I am very fair skinned (Irish), the women would always ask me what my secret is (it's being born Irish). They had umbrellas and wide brimmed hats in the sun. Actually, it has a lot to do with your culture. Some may stray away from what their culture thinks looks good but generally, it stays the same. That's why in most countries in Asia, pale is in and why we here in the "western" world prefer to get tans.
You kinda glossed over the issue. In Edwardian times darker skin was associated with peasantry who worked in the sun. The same aesthetic still applies in most countries.
These days in the west, it's the opposite now because unlike before, now dark skin is associated with health and vigor and leisure time. This concept hasn't caught on in asia yet, tho you will see younger people there tanning it up.

SOME Koreans use skin whitening cream, or it would not be available, in KOREAN, at most Korean department stores. Only a small percentage of Korean women use this cream, but it is still for sale at top department stores like Lotte and Samsung Plaza.

Light Asian skin look very different than light Caucasian skin. i mean if you look at light Caucasian skin, they have all those reddish spots and blemishes. while light Asian skin is glowing and clear all the way.

A have a Filipina cousin who's living in Sweden. Everytime she visits here in the Philippines, she tries to really whiten her skin tone. When she goes back to Sweden, she makes her skin darker. Darker than her usual morena skin. My other cousins here in the Philippines, would tease her how dark she is, upon seeing her facebook pics. @bundangbeart the preference for lighter skin in E. Asia is mostly an offshoot of the old hierarchal system where gentry class were distinguished from lower working class, not just for clothing or money, but also for having lighter skin and more delicate appearance. It's because lower class people, including women, had to work outside a lot, which would give those people darker skin tone and rougher appeareance (skin, hands, etc).

Just because she was naturally tan from being on a swim team. A ganguro is a girl who purposely tans, lightens her hair, and wears colorful, gaudy make-up. Most of the Japanese definitely love light skin. They really do consider it to be the most beautiful.

The problem I have with culture is that, while it can teach a lot of good values, it also dictates what is good and bad taste, or socially acceptable, or what is childish and what is mature, what defines a successful person, or in this case, correct skin tones. I believe all skin tones are equally beautiful. I can look at a red head with millions of freckles and think she's gorgeous, while I also think an African woman with the darkest skin can be just as hot.

It is true, I live in Koreatown USA and I am very fair skinned (Irish), the women would always ask me what my secret is (it's being born Irish). They had umbrellas and wide brimmed hats in the sun. What I would not give to be tan. Any lighter and I would look like a biology chart. Tan in the US means healthy and tone. I better move to Korea. :)

I like natural skin tones, tans suck and I'm sick of the western media telling white women they are unhealthy looking, because they have fair skin.
There is nothing more healthy to look at to me, than pure white skin. It is clear, it is immaculate and unmuddied. Isn't that what health is assosiated with? Now all of a sudden your unhealthy, if you don't scorch your skin to an unnatural colour.

In the States and maybe other places that are predominantly white there is a desire to be as dark as possible and having pale skin is usually considered ugly. Trust me, I know. So women and even some men go to tanning salons, get fake tanning creams, etc.
My opinion is that all skin tones are beautiful. However, I'm getting quite tired of seeing so many orange skinned people walking around. Some people go a little too far with it over here.

Oh wow I did hear of this! I'm a makeup artist and I see so many skin lighting creams. Here it's More in the African American community, and Hispanic community. My dad was teased, called Negro (in Spanish) his whole life for having very dark skin.
this was interesting! It's amazing how some cultures that have the dark skin naturally, don't want it, and the ones that don't, they want it. Then some are so obsessed with looking light.

How is this whole bleaching cream used by Asians considered troubling? I don't see Asian people complaining like some other people about their skin color, weight, age, GPA, getting a job, etc. It's troubling to those who see's bleaching cream as a way to erase someone's skin color. People also like to have the "glow" and more "goldeny" so they get that done too. So you know what this is? It's a FAD. Actually, it has a lot to do with your culture. Some may stray away from what their culture thinks looks good but generally, it stays the same. That's why in most countries in Asia, pale is in and why we here in the "western" world prefer to get tans.

You kinda glossed over the issue. In Edwardian times darker skin was associated with peasantry who worked in the sun. The same aesthetic still applies in most countries.
These days in the west, it's the opposite now because unlike before, now dark skin is associated with health and vigor and leisure time. This concept hasn't caught on in asia yet, tho you will see younger people there tanning it up.

It's not about looking caucasian, it's just a term of beauty that's been going on for s thousand years. In western terms, there's always products of getting tanner and more sexy. Why is that not of concern? Of course, we should always appreciate our natural skin tone- I'm just tired how westerners make it seem like such a serious ethnic hating issue. We don't hate ourselves at all. Certainly, people who get tans don't hate being white either. What's the problem?

SOME Koreans use skin whitening cream, or it would not be available, in KOREAN, at most Korean department stores. Only a small percentage of Korean women use this cream, but it is still for sale at top department stores like Lotte and Samsung Plaza.
