he's retarted once you water breaks ladies head to the hospital RIGHT AWAY!! when my water broke i called my doctor and he said to go to the hospital even tho i wasnt having any contractions. reason why?? because once your water breaks you are at higher risk of getting an infection like bethiey87 said some doctors give you 24 hours to give birth after your water breaks some give 15 it all depends.

Um, no you don't. Unless your water breaks before your due date or you have other health issues, there's no reason to rush off to the hospital right away unless you want to.

As for infection, the many vaginal exams laboring women are often given at hospitals can increase what is otherwise a small risk.

There is no medical reason a healthy woman who has had a normal pregnancy should "have" to go to the hospital "as soon as" her water breaks.

..if your water breaks and its brown or has brown chunks in it get to the hospital right away!!! This means that the baby has been in there too long and has had a bowel movement (poop) inside the womb & is at VERY high risk for infections.

Well, if your husband/bf/coach is there with you at the hospital. Who know's how long it's going to take until you go into labor. He might get hungry and it may be after hours. They have vending snacks machines at the hopsital. And it's not only candy and chips. They have other stuff too. Sandwhiches, jello, juices, salad, etc. I'm sure he/she wouldn't want to leave the hospital to go buy something to eat.
