i was too lazy to put on a basecoat, and I used a green o.p.i nail polish. when i took it off my nails was discolored, it went away after a few days but i recommend to always use a basecoat;)

Isn't it your nails growing, not fading? because when you look at the friday picture, the polish finishes in a pretty straight line. so i think it's just your nails growing....

Cute video, thanks for doing the experiment! Base coat isn't just about adhesion though... with some colors, it helps reduce/eliminate staining. Manglaze has a hot pink they sell under two names - "Blue" and "F**K Off and Dye" - and they say to use with a base coat or it will stain. I wore OPI's "Swimsuit.. Nailed It" for a week, no chipping... but when I took it off, my nails were very stained - even with a two-coat clear base! CG's "Blue Year's Eve" looks the same but reportedly doesn't stain.

Let me give you a little tip....try not to brush the nail cuticals, you will get lifting!! and not just that it really doesnt look too professional to see the cuticals covered with polish

@SweetAndSmart100 itscuz they want it to be safe on our nails so they test it on animals before it can go in stores,but SOPOSLY Sally Hansen doesnt test their new color polishes but i dont know if tht is true,but yes like medicine is tested on rats.u can go online and watch some videos about animals testing,in fact just even look up animal testing and there u can read some things.

Although I love the concept of the nail polish experiments, I think this review is a little biased. I can definitely pick up more of a "fading" at the tips of your nails with this nail polish then when you used the China Glaze nail polish, and for China Glaze you acted as if it was terrible because of it, and yet this one you recommended. I wonder what you would think of the nail polishes if they were not labelled.

Julie I really really like your videos but I kinda thing thi review is a bit doble standar, I've watched all your reviews of the china glaze and essie and out of all polishes the one with more significant chipping and fadding is OPI, yet your saying that you stongly recommend the nail polish to your subscribers. i think you shouldve showed your nail after taking it off too, because the whole point of base coat is to protect your nail from getting dyed by the polish, this way of not showing, youre not showing how good the polish is without the base coat at all

@katiehunt213 i have this same problem. i tried a lot of nail strengtheners, and none of them have really worked. the one i am currently using, (and it is AMAZING) Is the Pro Strong Fluoride Nail Strengthener. i've been using a nail growth in addition to the Pro Strong, and in about two days my nails were long, and they had gotten so strong that i couldnt even bend them. Pro Strong is pricy, but i think it is really worth it. i hope this helps!

One variable you forgot to consider is which hand you use the most. If you're right handed, then obviously, the fingernails without the top coat, on your left hand, will keep polish longer.

I've watched a lot of your videos, and I would consider you an authority on nail trivia....however, I think it would be good to tell your viewers that the reason you use a base coat is to protect your natural nails from staining with heavily pigmented polishes like the red you used in this experiment. Here in New Zealand you cannot find OPI in stores less than NZD$25 (about USD$20). I buy mine online for nearly half the price. I will stock up when I go back to the US for sure! I am a fan of OPI over other polishes. Mine last for 7 days easy with a base coat and top coat, I love the brush, and the formula just glides on.

this experiment doesn't really work because as I am sitting here I've noticed that the nails on my right hand are more chipped than the left hand BECAUSE I use my right hand more than my left hand. It would make more sense to put the polish alone on one week on both hands then do the base coat/top coat the next week and compare.
