  • His bass player in this video used to live up the road from me :)

  • Why do this guy's fans have such pathetic little egos? Maybe brain damage and poverty from all the drugs. I don't see the other Wilcox's fans saying anything bad about this guy. They just enjoy the music. Let the head banging resume.

  • COCAINE damn i just did a line I LOVE IT as much as i love him

  • While I understand your desire to distinguish between this musician and the "lame American folkie of the same name", but using "lame" is rather lame in itself. Listen to David Wilcox, US folkie, sing "Night Watchman" or "Eye of the Hurricane". Lyrics that deep are hardly the type you would get from a "lame" songwriter.

  • come on baby dance with me, life for me is this riverboat fantasy.

  • fck it man smoke up and have fun yaaaaa

  • David Wilcox Rocks... How amazing, this son has been in my head for nearly 20 years, this guy is so amazing ! Love everthing this guy delivers !

  • No matter what he always puts on a great show. A Canadian Legend

  • man canadian make sick tunes we got David Wilcox, RUsh, Bare naked ladies, and more!!

  • CANADIAN ROCK LEGEND !!!!!

  • Canadian blues Icon got to love this man saw him live and it was always a great intimate show

  • WHAT TUNING IS HE IN?!?!?!?

  • @DavisAcoustic any tuning he wants!

  • @Jeffabrams69 Japanese Cavemen in F# minor!!

  • Canada's best kept secret.

  • a true talent.......fell in love with his music and guitar playing from the first moment I heard this guy! I remember seeing him live in 1987 at he MCA, Toronto.

  • I have always enjoyed seeing him perfom :D

  • I used to think he was a hackneyed rocker doing lame records , but he is a helluva guitar player with some cool ass tunes. Great performer too.

  • hi I saw him when i was 18 I am now 42 still sounds great!!!!

  • morE cocainE thE man!!!!grEat song tho

  • Simply awesome , and I'm proud to be a fellow Canuck :)

  • Ah, the lame Canadian rockie of the same name as the American folk singer.

  • LMAO!

pause it on 1:18 he looks soo drunk!

  • lol this guys hilarious

  • Glad he's from Canada.

  • Saw the High Sheriff of Hell live. Still shreds and stole the show

  • there are many many great guitarists and singers on both sides of the borders. It gets kinda stupid and cliche when it turns into an american/canadian pissing contest no matter what the subject. This is the first time I have heard this person entertain. My stepdaughter steered me to his music and he is good ,but there is no reason for the shit stirrers in here to be starting shit.Good music is good music no matter who is doing it.

  • was this at the kee to bala? i think i was at this show!

  • FUCK YEAH!

  • Best show I ever saw at a small bar called "Spanky's" some 25 years ago, held maybe 100 people.....what a party that night. Gotta luv a mucsician that comes out in the crowd and enjoys a beer with the fans!

  • this is the real david wilcox \m/ ... who the hell is that american guy? does he have any songs that actually made it anywhere?

  • Comment removed

  • Canadian rock at its finest for sure makes me proud to be Canadian

  • thank you mr wilcox what a fucking show what a artist/musician godblessthat man :):) come back to steelcity :)

  • what a fucking legend remionds meof UFO... something ijust hapen tostumbleapon by accident 11 LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL

  • He used to be so nervous on stage. I saw him at The Chateau in Cobourg, Ontario in the late 80s and he was so pissed he passed out after a couple of songs. He was still genius though.

  • Canadian rock guitar legend is fucking right !! DW ROX

  • my mom made me weatch this

  • It's apples and oranges folks. This particular David is an absolute nightmare on guitar and a Canadian icon. It's a crime he is not massive outside The Great White North.

  • im gonna see him tonight, and i cant wait!!

  • spam spam the queue bar is shit

  • A CANADIAN LEGEND !!!!

  • An energetic entertainer. Fine to tap your feet or dance to for a while. No comparison to the American D. Wilcox, however, when it come to musical & poetic talent. This guy is mere meat & potatoes as opposed to a gourmet meal. Good for the musically challenged average Joe type who simply cannot grasp the depth of the American Dave W's artistic creations.

  • I love how Dave feels the noise he makes. You can see it in his eyes... every note he bends... comes from inside. in 1977... I was just a little nothing in my mommas belly..... she saw this guy at LuLu's. Apparently... it was the first time baby kicked... and didn't stop since..... found me a guitar and big ol' boner for the blues..... Thanks Mr Wilcox. For those about to rock.. I salute you. Seen you 5 times.... and everytime.... you bring the party.

  • great vid, this guy has brought me alot of joy over the years...thanks David Wilcox

  • @cd871

    ya right

  • hey this little scrap is getting me all worked up. Wilcox,s twisted lyrics are the best. I woke up this morning i saw trouble walking like a man i said hello trouble give me your right hand. i coulda had religon on this very day but the women and the whiskey around me would not let me pray. i love that stuff.maybe folkie is alright but dont bash my favorite guitar player. and the deep sound that guitar makes classic rock blues

  • @survivingcountryboy Wilcox didn't write those particular lyrics, the song you are referring to is a reworking of Preachin' Blues by Robert Johnson.

  • @BigDaddyDishrags son of a gun i guess you are right. o well. Thanks for posting the video. saw him live a few times around 1990. good time ....great shows....memories kinda hazy

  • @cd871 the American folky IS LAME, so very lame, he doesn't deserve the same name as the real David Wilcox.

  • @cd871 LMAO!

  • @cd871 Just another american puke be you. This guy is the shit. That folky american wilcox guy is just a fag. This is Canada, Family, summer, party, patio and beer..... that other guy.... prolly fingers small animals.

  • @bigbobloggins david wilcox (american) is a high quality musician.. i listen to this song and all i get from it is moonshine beer and being drunk.. i listen to eye of a hurricane i listen to a message of ones search for a solution to addiction. IN MY OPINION, i think that american david wilcox is a better musician

  • @cd871 the american wilcox will never compare to the real canadian bluesman the only thing close american that i can think of is george ''through-good'' LOL

  • This is a great song and I love how this video captures the energy of the live performance. I have the album. It was given to me by a Canadian friend. We traded David Wilcoxes. The thing I want to say is that the American David Wilcox is not lame. He's one of my all time fave folk singers. But he is a folk singer. This David Wilcox is a rocker, down to the tips of his toes. I love them both and I would never dare to compare them. It's not even necessary.

  • Probably one of the best.

  • Love this guy

  • Can't wait to see him in August!!!!

  • Love his music, amazing on the guitar. You don't hear this level of talent anymore these days

  • Cocaine kisses and moonshine misses thats the life 4 me....."YES IT IS"

  • Wilcox tunes are a must for every party. The live stuff is so the best!!

  • Truly a Canadian Legend..thanks for sharing .

  • David Wilcox is pree much my life.

  • SPAZZ your truly a jack ass. Anyone who would find a way to sleight D Wilcox is truly a moron.

  • Just a great tune.

  • I would love to see him live. I am 19 and have been listening to his music for about... 3 years now. Since I'm in college I can actually see a show without my mother breathing down my neck about those 'crazies' that come out XD

  • @daysofinspiration222 LOL I took my son to see this guy the first time at 4 :P

  • @MrCanzara HAHA! :) Thats awesome! I plan on going this summer if he has any shows (I'm from Ontario, so it shouldn't be an issue lol).

  • @daysofinspiration222 he's always in ontario!!! delta fair sometime's

  • @Jeffabrams69 haha, yeah, I'm going to be looking for concerts later. I'm just finishing up my final year of volunteering in the Philippines, but after mid-July I'm back in Canada so I will look to see if he has anything then. Hopefully he does since I'm missing another one of my favourite bands right now (damn people don't come to Canada :( )

  • you sir put eddie van hallen to shame!!! always a plessure to jam to, thanks alot.

  • man hes sooo fucked up playing this song man i was there looongg timme ago

  • What an excellent contribution to Canadian culture and identity! Excellent video with tremendous value to our country!

  • i've know about david wilcox from radio for years...years! but never knew how he looked like :)

  • bahahaha exactly what i was thinking

  • Awesome performance. damn

    I'm glad I found this!

  • i seen him live in oshawa newyears eve 2008. and he was amazing. alot of people dont sound as good live as they do on cd. but david sounds better

  • Very Nice thanky you for this video

  • Truly awesome...guitar genius and all around gifted musician....

  • the Fender Custom Shop should make a

    David Wilcox Tribute Telecaster

im not kidding that this is amazing!

  • Seen him a couple times in Thunder Bay. Awesome of course. And this isn't even his best song. : )

  • im sure he still burns one down here and there!

  • I think that David Wilcox is a great singer, song writer and guitar player. He is a gifted musician that I feel has been under rated for years. He's a true performing artist.

  • OHh no he is not dried out !!! Saw him at Oktoberfest 08...HE ROCKS !!!!

  • gonna see david wilcox in perth on saturday on the 5th of september. everyone in the area should go... im hitch hikin there im not fuckin missin it.

  • It's was AWESOME! PERTH FAIR ALL THE WAY EH!!! I was just about to post a comment about him last night in Perth, but then there was this comment!

  • Enigmatic,Honest,Unique & Relentless; Only an "Act of God" or the inevitable course of nature cessation of all vitals will stop Mr. Wilcox from performing. David has entertained scores of individual fans, countless shows, over even more toasts of draft beer pitchers. Like a free spirited, lighter side emphasis Doppelganger to Canadian Countrymen N.Young & G.Lightfoot,; he has carried out the Timeless Troubadour Tradition: Telling Tales, Painting Smiles & Providing Indelible Good-Time Memories.

  • Well versed! He has that sound that can't be denied. Unique and kicks ass!

  • Saw him quite recently in Hamilton, Ontario - Absolutely tremendous show.

Upset that he didn't do the bearcat, so to speak, but he made up for it with an immaculate rendition of the above listed song.

In fact, the only terrible part of the night was when he was followed by uuuuuuuuuuugh Kim Mitchell.

  • my step dad saw this guy live a few days ago

  • im goin to see him agen at kee to bala on the 29th:D

  • that was an unreal show. :)

  • Has he ever finished a concert...... ? Standing up or concious?

  • I think he has dried out....did well in Kitchener last fall anyway

  • He's been sober of 20 yrs

  • He's in PEI in August. not sure what day

  • holy shit really? do ou know the date now?

  • this guy is good but thats no reason to post the david wilcox from the states is lame ... so what ever

  • My first vrush with Dave was as a youngster in High School, where he was scheduled to play at a student end-of-year dance. He was too wasted to go on. I thought that was the greatest thing ever and started to listen to his music. His tunes were a staple at any Ontario bush party and bar. Legend. Great video.

  • man the sustain at 3:40 is NICE

  • this was in fort erie :)

    woot

    was fuck'n amazing !

  • This man is a legend here in Ont ,I've seen him a few times live ,the guy is awsome

  • My canadian girlfriend turned me on to this last year, before that i never heard of David Wilcox and Im 48 and rocked all my life, but hes good.Put me on a boat with cocktails on the river and i can deal with it :)

  • lol at 1:55 dood looks whacked out of it.

  • I just watched this dude yesterday in chatham at ribfest dude fuckin rules

  • David Wilcox ROCKS !!!!!!!

  • cant wait to see him in Chatham, Ontario this weekend 2009 RibFest!!!

  • Hope He Comes To PTBO Again Thi Year

  • I remember watching him perform at a bar on Woodbine Avenue just North of Steels in Markham. Just an amazing singer. This music reminds me of some pretty wild days in cottage country in the eighties.

  • Wilcox Rules is one of my favourite singers

  • Eary 1990's louisville ky - we had a 10ft cband satellite dish, watched much music on the canadian satellites, made some vhs tapes of videos, favorite is david wilcox 'laying pipe" - couldn't order that stuff at the local record dealer cause i tried

  • saw him a bunch of times starting back in the mid 80's-he alawys put on a great performance no matter what condition he was in-the acoustics on this video dont do his talent justice

  • hey one74st,

not as funny as you wife naked!

  • I'm 17, and I've been listening to this guy since I was in diapers. I regret I couldn't have seen him in concert in his younger days. No doubt one of the best Canadian artists ever.

  • how can u people diss this guy, hes good to drink to. show some respect!

  • canadian's are hilarious !

  • Please explain your definition of "hilarious Canadians"? oh wait ... this video explains the fun lovin' side. Maybe that's what you mean?

  • Fuck you dude. that better be a positive comment fucker

  • David Wilcox is awesome!!!!!!

  • David Wilcox is not an international rock star, not does he strive to be. What he is, is a Canadian rock icon who continues to tour and rock well into his golden years, appealing to new generations of fans. Seen him many times, in several venues across the country. He's not trying to be a superstar, just himself, and he's adored by legions of fans, much like the Greatful Dead. A true legend.

  • I have to disagree with my esteemed colleague; Wilcox is unique!! While lot's of us hack musicians can strum along to the chords in his songs, there's almost no one that can write lyrics, compose music, play all the riffs, licks, fills and solos while entertaining a crowd the way he does!! I don't know if you're a musician/guitar player, but I wouldn't criticize Wilcox until you have rocked the house 4000-5000 times over the past 30-40 years and sold a few million albums to boot!

    Respectfully..

  • Opened for him on his Breakfast at the Circus tour. If you think he is just like other bar players you really have no musical knowledge. Thorogood or others that do this type of music could wish to be as good a player as Wilcox.

  • he looks right at the camera at 57 seconds in:)

  • this guys a local hero:)

  • what a fuckin good show he puts on!

  • definatly a druggy,lol

  • Love his facial expressions...I so can't wait 2 see him live again

  • anybody know how old he is? and how he is still performing? Or let alone Alive at that age?

  • he's still preforming I know that... he's playing in Delhi, Ontario next month

  • you think he's old?? Check out Levon Helm, the drummer for 'The Band' He's still performing to this day after surviving lung cancer. Thats what makes legends. As long as they can hold a guitar they're still rocking.

  • I don't see what that's got to with fuck all. Wilcox rocks-- and he probably looks a hell of a lot better than you would with your face ripped off.

  • hopefully david wilcox would look better than me if my face was ripped off?

  • I agree with jimmythegoy.......he prolly does look better than you with your face ripped off, maybe that would keep it from saying stupid shit on youtube aswell!....he's a fucking god in music, looks dont matter....its the music that counts u dick. grow up.

  • honestly,,,i never said he was bad, hes good, but calm down dude, dont shit yourself, and if ur trying to prove a point try not to swear so much makes you sound like an idiot and seriously, if i had my face ripped off wouldnt u would hope that his face would look better than mine, calm dude and stop crapping you pants over petty shit

  • crappin my pants over petty shit? lmao. thats too funny. im not crappin my pants over it, im just saying that just cuz ppl dont look the way u want them too doesnt mean u gotta judge them. ahhh so many stero types in life...its pretty gay. oh and did i offend you when i swore?? if i did im sorry i have a bad potty mouth, but i kinda like it. lol no hard feelings man dude...dude man.

  • I'm actually really attractive with my face ripped off, so I think I could give Wilcox a run for the title of "Best looking with competitor's face ripped off".

  • Nuthin' But The Hits!!! He's the best!!!

  • Spankey's Brampton, Balla Key, et al., circa '86 Still a must see. Lay more pipe.

  • Dave should get a whole shit load of Junos! The thing is, he's not dead, he's still rocking and he's still recording new material, so he doesn't qualify for any "Lifetime Achievement" type of award. It will be a hell of a shame if all he gets is some post humus award when he's gone... he deserves a lot more than that - he really is a treasure!!

  • well said!

  • Dave should get a Juno..just like Kim and all the rest of really good Canadian icons in music.

  • i saw him live and he is so good

  • great guitar solo

  • Just great, seen him earlier this summer with some lame other bands... Wilcox blew them off the stage

He's getting old now, you can tell he's done WAY too many drugs in his lifetime.

    Haha

    Cheers

    5*****

  • Saw him probably 40 times between '79 and '83. I always thought he was better in the smaller club settings when he still played his old Strat and never played the same lick twice.

    Best guitarist Canada ever produced.

  • Never heard of this guy, but can honestly say I'll be checking his music out a lot more. Thanks for sharing this great stuff! Mark

  • Maysey1,

Us Wilcox fans are happy to welcome a new fan-

you're in for a rockin good time!! Somebody turned me on to Wilcox when I was in college over 20 years ago (I'm getting old), his music has been a constant in my life ever since. See him live if you can (especially if you are a guitar player!!)WILCOX ROCKS!!!!

  • going to see him this friday at the diesel houee cant wait

  • It should have nothing to do with Canadian or American. What it comes down to is do you like rock or folk music better? I prefer to rock the fuck out.

  • wilcox is god

  • Sweet performance

  • M y highschool had a chance to have him preform a concert but he wanted Jack Daniels in his dressing room (Among Other things)and b\eing a caholic school the student council changed their minds. It would have been a great concert.

  • So Sorry :( To Read Your School Missed Out On What Would Have Been A GREAT CONCERT :)!

David has always been known to have J.D. (Among Other things!, on his rider

So Sad your student council could not see past that! He Is A Great Canadian Performer! ~XoX~

  • I think both the Canadian rocker and the Yank folkie are great.

  • Lol forget the war over whether the american or canadian david wilcox is better lol. I am Canadian, but I enjoy both artists music pretty much equally.

  • All of a sudden I feel better.

    Thanks big Dave.

  • I AM CANADIAN! , heeellllls yeah!

    cocaine kisses, moonshine misses <3

  • i love this mutha fucka

  • hahaha Greeeeezy!!

  • 20 year old canadian from barrie ontario, and i must agree...DAVID WILCOX is the best ever....if u ever get a chance to see him live take it....i see him every year in stroud and it kicks ass

  • I am a yng american who lives in Buffalo NY.

both my parents are david wilcox fans. Not to long ago I seen him with my parents at a free concert in WNY.

I AGREE WITH ALL THE CANADIANS. HE IS THE BEST and his music is killer

Some people call me a bad apple !!!!

  • i like this song but whats funnier is the canucks and yanks almost starting a war over which david wilcox is better. i should write southpark creators with a new story for an episode.
