@FullSolo Random access memory, much faster than hdd. For example: you start text editor, you are editing your text document and its on your ram memory till you save it on your hard drive.

do like me get both i love the macbook pro but running windows on it is fucking retarded i feel like it defeats the hole purpose of getting a mac, now if your trying to get game on get a PC the graphics card will be way better then the macbook Pro graphics card and you will have about 1,000 extra dollars in your pocket, now if your a baller like me you just get both of them LOL and laugh at the other people bitching about which one is better there both cool MAC and PC
i love mac the operating systems and software is amazing and they are so much more fun to use compaed to windows. but most windows computers are more powerful and much much cheaper.
Its a mediocre laptop for a premium price. You Mac fans need to really come down to reality. Yes, the OSX is great. But the hardware is not steller. I've owned 3 PC laptops and never had a problem with any of them their first, second, or third year. So just because you don't have a problem with a Mac its first year does not make it anymore special. It heats up because it made of metal and it has no cooling system. The entire coputer is a heat sink. Poor design.
You are 100% correct. OS X is a fine operating system, I use it for general tasks while I use Linux for the normal work I do. But when comparing the hardware to another laptop, Mac's hardware is pretty mediocre. Even if you include the price of an OS X license into the cost, your still paying just as much or more compared to a similarly spec'd laptop. Desktops are another story, they're just over priced. Granted I build my systems.
People will compare the pricing of Mac VS PC like it is the same thing as pricing between Honda and Chevy. In a lot of ways they might be right.. Although a Honda has less power than a Chevy, the Honda is more reliable and gives you more value for the money. But, that comparison is becoming less true as more and more PCs that cost less than Mac s are just as reliable and more powerful.
I really appreciate the information you provide in your videos. Perhaps you could keep in mind that your audience consists of women/females as well. I noticed that you refer to us all as "guys" :)

I am a college student not doing video design work, but I do love me the occasional video game. (super stoked for Diablo 3! woot!)
I'm about to apply for a minor in computing so I'll also be doing some Java Applet type stuff (don't really understand exactly what that means yet in terms of what I'll need from my computer, I've never been up on the technicalities of computers, just on the using of them). I've been told to go Pro for any type of gaming, but what are YOUR thoughts? thanks so much!
Pro has a dedicated graphics card, backlit keyboard, 15.4 inch screen (instead of 13.3 on MacBook), better speakers, different keyboard feel (not chiclet), choice of glossy or matte screen (MacBooks are only glossy), aluminium casing, supposedly better battery life, firewire 800, expresscard slot, 2 USB slots on either side of the notebook while MacBooks have two on the left side, LED backlit screen which is a great quality screen, up to 2.6Ghz processor and up to 17 inch screen...
you can get it if you want...There are not many viruses, adware, malware, or spyware that is written for the Mac. So, it is not really neccessary unless you want peace of mind
hey john pls help me cause i cant decide if il get the 256mb or 512mb video and im also kinda in a tight budget, il be using it for video editing and special fx. but then again it would nice to save a couple of bucks here and there.

I have Bought my MBP on december 23rd. Till now i am very happy with the bok.But the only BIG ANNOYING PROBLEM IS ....it heats up too fast.....does anyone know a way to cool MBP.
dude, im looking to make my "home studio" a bit better!
i have never owned a mac before, and i am trying to decide between, a pretty good speced PC, the lowest end imac with 2gb ram, and the macbook pro with 2gb ram.
portability would be nice, but not a nesasery!
can you just, tell my what you tghink and if you think the macbook pro would be right for me?
I am going to buy a Mac this summer (winblows), and I am debating over iMac or Macbook Pro. I may do some ocassional video/photo editing, will DEFINITELY have iTunes stuff (about 6 GB right now), and will do the occasional game (nothing new than '05) on XP. I am reserved on the iMac for it's apparently underdeveloped GPU driver. Which Mac will offer the best performance for my money.
Well, a desktop and a laptop are two different machines. Do you need to take your computer around with you? If not, go for the imac. It has a better screen resolution for a lot less money.
GPUs are comparable and for what you say you'll be doing it's more than enough.
Thanks to you Jon and your videos I bought a MacBook Pro as well. I purchased the $2000 one but probably should have bought the $2500 one. Well, it cost me $1900 with my iPhone rebate but whatever. For me though it was between the iMac and MBP and decided on the MBP basically because it looks great (as does the iMac) and I really didn't want to be confined to a desk all of the time. Anyway, I love mine so far with no problems but it's only a month old. Thanks again Jon for the videos.
I am a long time mac user and am thinking of getting the newer intel based macbook or macbook pro. The problem is I need to run some windows based programs for my business. Basically document assembly type programs and time managing and scheduling. I notice that parallels can run both systems on a mac. Question: If I create a document using "word" in windows, will I need to buy another copy of "word" in order to open the document on the mac side? Thanks
Im a bit like you. I have just ordered a new macbook pro same specs. I think i have done the right thing. Is there anything you recommend i do as soon as i get it. Cheers, Chobs.
With regards to the Pro VS MacBook, I think its def. important to take into consideration what you'll be using the machine for; I would reccomend going Pro if you plan on using Vista, simply because the GPU expansion and its onboard memory will help handle some of the intense resource requirements of DX10, therefore keeping your system memory and processor resources free.
Nevertheless, great commentary, you got me all the more excited about my new Mac (will be my first!)
But then you won't get the DVD burner. The hard drive is way small, though you could to the Apple site and BTO one with a bigger drive. But still no DVD burner.
Hi, I was wondering if you do any gaming on your MBP. I'm not sure which model of MBP to get, the one with the 256mb dedicated video memory or the one with 128 mb. Which graphics card do you have?
Jon I have the same macbook pro as you. Have you noticed the bluetooth mighty mouse stops working if you wake the computer from sleep mode? Have you noticed this
hey jon, I have been holding out in buying a macbook pro 17 inch due to the lack of an LED backlight screen, is it worth the wait? and when do you think it will have LED?
hey, have you noticed that after installing leopard there are some occasional waking up from sleep issues? sometimes my MBP just doesn't want to wake up... and it didn't start until after leopard. hopefully them issue is fixed with 10.5.2... just wanted to see if you have this problem.
Oh, by the way! If you want to play games, get a Macbook PRO... if you want to just do normal crap without fancy schmancy 3d graphics (video editing like Jon said) or any kind of intensive graphics applications... then just get a Macbook. Why spend all the video money if you're not needing it?
Jon, you must have gotten your Macbook Pro about the same time I did. I've had mine since one week after they were put out on the market. I haven't had a single problem either, and it's been a dream kit, bro. And, it is true what you said. Nothing like Apple life, man. :)
Hey, great videos man. Helped me out alot. I got my Macbook Pro in October and last month my screen has a stuck/dead pixel. It's red by the way..do you know any way I can get rid of it? Thanks!
Hi, I bought a MacBook Pro at the start of October on your recommendation and have never looked back. I am university student in the UK. Was just wondering about your battery capacity? How much has is deteriorated?
I baught the north american Macbook Pro 2,2 ghz 2gb ram standard HDD specs glossy version. The fan noise is extremley low. Seriously, I can hardly notice the laptop noice when I don't run heavy apps. Have anyone noticed a yellowish color at the bottom of the screen?
ofcourse you should get the mbp! its way better then the vaio, havent you heard that sony vaios are almost as bad as dells? i highly recommend the macbook pro its great for video editing and stuff! peace!
You're hot! But are you sure your MBP is 7 month old already? I thought it came out in June. Anyway I bought mine in July and it's still working good and looking new. Love ya
time flies!!!!!!!!! how long r u gonna keep this sexy machine? i bought applecare so i'm keeping it for at least 3 yrs. i bet u'll buy the completely new MBP next month lol.
i got a custom build with 200 gb 7200rpm hdd 2.4 cpu 2 gb ram got the Hi-res wide screen display with matte finish and also grabbed apple care i spent $4,558 aud (Australian) after tax i love it to bits i haven't even delved into the whole ilife suite
first comment! pretty nice vid jon... i like ur videos... gud to c first hand experience on it... i really luv the mac... they r really taking off here in india too... ive got 3 stores in my city! luv spending time ther and checking out these machines...
Awesome, i have a Macbook, and yeh, basically the same here, had it for about 9-10 months, and no problems at all, one more USB port would be nice though. thanks for all the videos:)

good review but it made me think of one thing:
please world, learn that "RPM" is plural. It stands for rotations/revolutions per minute. You wouldn't say revolutions per minutes. You don't say I was traveling at 70 MPHs (miles per hours). PLEASE, this is a HUGE pet peeve but such a common mistake.

Im a bit like you. I have just ordered a new macbook pro same specs. I think i have done the right thing. Is there anything you recommend i do as soon as i get it. Cheers, Chobs.
chobsmonster 4 years ago

Thanks!

hey jon, I have been holding out in buying a macbook pro 17 inch due to the lack of an LED backlight screen, is it worth the wait? and when do you think it will have LED?
dansun0405 4 years ago
if its important to you, then wait. I would say January's macworld conference is a good bet.

How is the Mighty Mouse working out for you so far Jon?

i got robbed a while ago and they took my powerbook g4. insurance covered almost all of the cost for a new macbook pro and im lovin it.

Have you had an issue with the macbook pro heating up?
jlmartinez2 4 years ago
Oh, by the way! If you want to play games, get a Macbook PRO... if you want to just do normal crap without fancy schmancy 3d graphics (video editing like Jon said) or any kind of intensive graphics applications... then just get a Macbook. Why spend all the video money if you're not needing it?
blicksflicks 4 years ago
Jon, you must have gotten your Macbook Pro about the same time I did. I've had mine since one week after they were put out on the market. I haven't had a single problem either, and it's been a dream kit, bro. And, it is true what you said. Nothing like Apple life, man. :)

Good review. I agree with you on receiving those vague questions. I often get them when people want to know what smartphone model to buy.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
good review but it made me think of one thing:
please world, learn that "RPM" is plural. It stands for rotations/revolutions per minute. You wouldn't say revolutions per minutes. You don't say I was traveling at 70 MPHs (miles per hours). PLEASE, this is a HUGE pet peeve but such a common mistake.
