With healthcare reform, elimination of so many people going to Emergency Rooms for basic coverage will be eliminated. last time GOP controlled Congress, unemployment stood at 4.4%, the S&P 500 closed over 1400, and the economy grew at an average of 3% per year over the four years under a GOP Congress. 2.5 yrs of Dems controll both houses of Congress, unemployment rate is at 9.7% & teen unemployment is at 25.5%, the highest since it started being tracked in 1948. The S&P 500 lost more than 25% of its value. & real GDP has declined each of the last 4 quarters & below where it was when GOP last controlled
The economy began to tank under the Bush administration, and much has to do with the deregulation of the Bush Administration as well. President Obama inherited a whole lot of crap, and he is trying to correct and improve things across the board. Sadly, there is much to fix. Why is it that the great country of the USA can not provide health Care in the way so many European countries do, and to all their citizens? They are not Socialist or Communist in any way, but they care for their citizens, and at a much lower cost than we pay.
I must admit our government system is not perfect. We do have waiting lists and our dental system is basically non existent, hospital emergencies will sometimes have ambulance bypass as they are so busy they cannot accept any new cases. So the ambulance will have to go to the next available hospital, however we ARE working on it.

Insurance companies take advantage of us all. I think the system needs some changes that will address costs. I watched the President tonight & agreed with him UNTIL he said a govt option. I think there are 2 reasons behind having the NASID's, MTX and Arava first. One - Possibly have less side effects (but not always), Biologics can pack a powerful punch and can have side effects to match. However these drugs (NASID's, MTX and Arava) have been on the market for sometime and can work and there has been more research done on these.Two - Yes Biologics do cost a lot and money should not be wasted if say MTX will do.
I also had to pay each month $32.90 for my Enbrel (as 4 injections per box at 1 a week) when I was on that prior to Orencia. There are rules for going on to Biologics here in this country as the government is paying for most of it. I will have had to have gone on some NASID's, MTX and Arava. Now if they don't work and the rheumy thinks it is best you are on a Biologic then you can go on to one. Which one the rheumy will discuss with you as a patient.
Now for the drug part - under my government health care system I pay $32.90 each time I get a prescription filled (as I work full time) and if I am on a pension it is $5.30. Even for Orencia that I have now just gone off I would pay $32.90 and the government will also pay for my infusion. For the first 5 at a hospital (which I did not have to pay for the Orencia as it was part of the hospital cost of the infusion) and then at my home/work.
However if I wish I can go to one of our great hospitals and see a rheumy for FREE. Medicare will pay for that even though I am working. The one problem with this is I may have to wait. Last time I did this it was possibly 2-3 months waiting time and sometimes it can take just as long to get into my private rheumy.
So this brings me to being an Australian citizen with a government run heath care system. I go to a private rheumy that I have out of pocket expense of $60.00 each time. Now I chose this and when I was a student he would bill me under the government health care system - Medicare and I would not have any out of pocket expense. However now I work and he is excellent so I chose to pay him what Medicare does not cover.

I do not see a problem with a corporation seeking to increase its profitability; however, they must not be allowed to do so at the expense of the citizens of United States. They have succeeded in creating an environment where a representative who seeks to stand up for his people, and fight the corporations, runs the risk of destroying his political career, because without their contributions he cannot compete in a political race against a corporately funded opponent.
I ask you; if a corporate entity, does not have the same rights as an individual, such as the right to VOTE or to bear arms, why then are they allowed to participate, and now dominate the politics of our country, when their sole purpose in being, is to increase their profits?

Health insurance is expected to triple or quadruple in price in the next 5 to 10 years. It now outstrips inflation by many multiples. When all of the people who are working have their companies DROP their insurance coverage I be they will be singing a different tune.

If you are accepted and a policy issued, the insurance company must and does provide reimbursement based on the contract. No one is denied if they have a policy in force. For those with pre-existing conditions or too poor to buy insurance, then we need a governement safety net.

With healthcare reform, elimination of so many people going to Emergency Rooms for basic coverage will be eliminated. last time GOP controlled Congress, unemployment stood at 4.4%, the S&P 500 closed over 1400, and the economy grew at an average of 3% per year over the four years under a GOP Congress. 2.5 yrs of Dems controll both houses of Congress, unemployment rate is at 9.7% & teen unemployment is at 25.5%, the highest since it started being tracked in 1948. I must admit our government system is not perfect. We do have waiting lists and our dental system is basically non existent, hospital emergencies will sometimes have ambulance bypass as they are so busy they cannot accept any new cases. So the ambulance will have to go to the next available hospital, however we ARE working on it.

I think there are 2 reasons behind having the NASID's, MTX and Arava first. One - Possibly have less side effects (but not always), Biologics can pack a powerful punch and can have side effects to match. However these drugs (NASID's, MTX and Arava) have been on the market for sometime and can work and there has been more research done on these.Two - Yes Biologics do cost a lot and money should not be wasted if say MTX will do.

I also had to pay each month $32.90 for my Enbrel (as 4 injections per box at 1 a week) when I was on that prior to Orencia. There are rules for going on to Biologics here in this country as the government is paying for most of it. I will have had to have gone on some NASID's, MTX and Arava. Now if they don't work and the rheumy thinks it is best you are on a Biologic then you can go on to one. Which one the rheumy will discuss with you as a patient.

Now for the drug part - under my government health care system I pay $32.90 each time I get a prescription filled (as I work full time) and if I am on a pension it is $5.30. Even for Orencia that I have now just gone off I would pay $32.90 and the government will also pay for my infusion. For the first 5 at a hospital (which I did not have to pay for the Orencia as it was part of the hospital cost of the infusion) and then at my home/work.

However if I wish I can go to one of our great hospitals and see a rheumy for FREE. Medicare will pay for that even though I am working. The one problem with this is I may have to wait. Last time I did this it was possibly 2-3 months waiting time and sometimes it can take just as long to get into my private rheumy.

So this brings me to being an Australian citizen with a government run heath care system. I go to a private rheumy that I have out of pocket expense of $60.00 each time. Now I chose this and when I was a student he would bill me under the government health care system - Medicare and I would not have any out of pocket expense. However now I work and he is excellent so I chose to pay him what Medicare does not cover.

It is our governments responsibility, to do what is best for us. It is essentially a service for pay. We're paying them, and they serve US.
If something in that system is broken, then that is what needs to be fixed. We have some of the best health care in the world - people come from all over to see our specialists (who are not all American, or educated in America. They are here because of the HUGE profits corporations make on the sick in this country.) We cant see our specialists unless we are well off. The system isnt broken - it works great for corporations and profiteers, which it is designed for.

Our nation is a christian nation. If not religion then were do our laws exist from? if they are man made then, they can simply be changed to suit man. Storm, thats just not true. During the application process, and insurance company has the right to deny based on pre-existing conditions. If you are accepted and a policy issued, the insurance company must and does provide reimbursement based on the contract. No one is denied if they have a policy in force. For those with pre-existing conditions or too poor to buy insurance, then we need a governement safety net.

No, it is true, people are dropped and denied claims whenever possible. There have been countless stories, and personal testimonies from people who worked in the insurance industry who say that they denied claims, or withheld claims to people who had a right to them.
It's called a LOOPHOLE, and there are plenty of them.
There should not be a pre-existing clause anyway.

What world are u living in?They deny people all the time,in fact policy with most companies is to apply routine denial of care,even if the coverage is spelled out.Most often in all contracts for health coverage, there are ambiguous statements, loopholes, & the ability to cancel the policyholder.This is even done in cases of employer-provided coverage.You really need to know the truth before speaking.Insurers routinely deny care because they play the odds that the insured won't contest it.

Public Option means you wouldn't be forced into it. That is the point. That is the last resort for those who cannot get health insurance because of pre-existing conditions or financial restraints.
I never had much choice, because my employer always chose the insurance company and plans they provide for me. Then the insurance companies collude to fix benefits (they are exempt from anti-trust laws), prices and doctors.
You don't have get it if you don't want it. Please don't take away my choice.

Since this is directed at me-I am self-employed and pay for my own insurance.U apparently live in a bubble bc you've never seen the cans put in supermarkets asking for change to help someone pay for care.Also, there are lifetime care limits.Our healthcare system does not cover everyone.If u r indeed indigent the hospital will rush the care, push u out.Some even do patient dumping.Payment plans depend on the hospital-apparently u never heard that most file for bankruptcy due to medical bills.

Perhaps u live in a bubble if you do not understand that 1. govt has no right to create a govt run healthcare options 2. govt is not the answer to this problem it i rarely the answer to any problem. My sister acquired millions in med bills but never had 2 declare bankruptcy she is not rich. I have seen the cans and helped sell benfit dinners for many friends & family and have bought more of them than I can count. people help people not govt.

Are you nuts? Our government has been running Medicare SUCCESSFULLY for decades! Medicare has 3% overhead--private insurance has 30%. You obviously have no idea what you're even talking about. The public option gives everyone the CHOICE. You can keep private insurance or take the public option.

Successful?? It costs 10 times what it was estimated to cost. It is also estimated that 20% of cost are fraud & waste. Even D-Landrieu (along with countless others) has said that it will be bankrupt in the next 2-7 years. Are they lying or do they not know what they are talking about? Either way lying or ignorance, that simply proves my point govt should not run helthcare. Govt plan will eliminate choice. Presidents said ideally w/in 5-10-20 years that is what it will accomplish.

In a civilized society, it is ridiculous to reduce people to begging to treat illness or injury.Not everyone has the same access to such help.Some people are alone in every sense of the word.And,just because ur sister didn't have to doesn't make it so for others.Most bankruptcies for individuals and families is due to medical bills.What is true for your sister is not so for millions of Americans.Most hospitals won't wait for payment indefinitely.

Also, what Allwalker proposes is that people not only beg for treatment,but encourage fund raisers,or make use of medicare,soc sec,or medicaid.Who would show up to a fund raiser because someone broke an arm & couldn't pay the bills?Or because they had their appendix out?Not many,or even if they do,no one would donate a hall for it.For someone who doesn't see need 4 a public option(govt), he is quick to suggest public programs as well-just who runs medicare,soc sec disability,medicaid?I wonder.

I would rather ask people for help since we are the most generous nation on earth than to pass laws making the govt steal from another from my benefit...that is socialism..also, no one needs a fund raiser for a broken arm..it will not bankrupt you..I am not advocating those programs I am saying that they exist so don't sit here & lie saying Millions are bankrupt every year from a broken arm...help already exists STOP GOVT GROWTH & SPENDING OR WE WILL ALL PAY IN THE LONG RUN

Americans give more of there money to charity than any other nation amd our govt then takes more from us to use on social programs not just here but all over the world. So, allwalker, rather than have the government act as an impartial agent and providing low cost insurance to the american people you would rather have a system where 32% of the money spent on health care goes into an industry that provides NO service at all except selling insurance, denies payments out and has death councils already in usage, and whose costs have gone up over 200% in the last five years, making it almost impossible for employers to cover their employees. the gov is far from impartial, simply look at some of the laws & u will soon see impartiality. Also, the choice is not between the current bill or nothing at all. Reform is needed. We do not have to choose between our existing system as is or this bill. stop obfuscating the debate by implying there exist this false dichotomy between the two. I think insurance is A HUGE scam. this bill centralizes power in fed govts hands it does not improve a system that is good but could be better.

Canada is not the only model to base a universal health care system on. Besides if we are the leaders of innovation and the best health care in the world, why can't we figure out how to treat all of our sick? The fact of the matter is that we could, if we could stop with the bickering, and discuss the problems that are there, and then offer solutions. Rather than this argumentative farce of a debate that is going on now.

I know plenty of people with health issues. Try not 2B so narrow minded. There is a bigger picture here. Its about the totality of govt take overs in all areas of our lives. I am simply astonished by the number of people who just want to turn all everything over to a large incompetent bureacracy. The vast majority of you would NOT have supported this bill if it was proposed by GW. The issue is I most politicians. Will you be so welcoming when BO leaves offc & some1 else runs your health.

Better the Government than greedy companies that care nothing about you or me. I must then assume that you won't want to participate in Social Security and Medicare when your time comes? These companies need to have competition. Lastly we are asking for a unique American style plan using only the best of what other countries have and not Canadian or any other countries plans.
