Its called Pachelbel's Canon, and its in far FAR more songs than just these two. Its not plagiarized at all. There is a comedian out there that goes through an entire list of songs that have this same progression on it.
..... Ithe Byrds melody occurs in what's known as the bridge, in this case a very brief middle section connecting the similar (and main) parts, occurring twice .... The claim is not insane, IMO, and it's fun to see someone make connections like this. But in this particular case, a claim of plagiarism simply wouldn't prevail in any legal setting.

The main issue isn't the 'sound' of the songs, which to me is very different. The main issue is analysis of the melody, which is protected by copyright. The 2 melodies are slightly similar, but not enough to constitute plagiarism. (1) legally, there has to be a greater quantity of theft than done here, and (2) that is not the main melody of the Byrds song. Ithe Byrds melody occurs in what's known as the bridge, in this case a very brief middle section connecting the similar (and main) parts, oc
There is a similarity as far as the vocals go but I think this is a coincidence. Honestly, I think the song is more a rip off of "Yesterday" by the Beatles. The whole beat of the song and guitar parts are extremely similar and the Plain White T's have credit the Beatles as one of their inspirations from what I read on the web. But who really cares? Both good acoustic songs, at least it's not death metal shit.
woow! youre right! if you hear it very closely seems like they are alike..! its so sad! beaouse i really love plain white t´s! i hope they havent done it on purpose..! i feel better thinking that was just a concidence! i hope it]! o good i love plain white t´s! they are making a new record! please buy it!
The mellodies sound similar but I wouldn't say PLAGIARIZED. Plaigerism is like... Led Zeppelin - Dazed and Confused. (Jake Holmes). Besides, the Byrds are a very influential band, sparking the creativity in artists such as Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, Heart, and Robert Plant (solo carer)
ok, these two songs sound vaguely similar, but i don't think plain white t's stole from them. but i remember when the song first came out and was starting to get big, me and my guitar teacher both recall hearing that song years earlier and we where surprised it was getting recognized now. and then i saw that it was part of a new album so....i think they did take this song from somebody, but i don't think it was from the byrds
Hmmm, pretty close. The Byrds have so much other sounds in the mix that it's a little hard to tell. If they play the guitar riff without distortion, it'd be much easier to tell.
But so does every other major scale arpeggio. If PWT's plagurized this song, they also plagurized the major scale arpeggio excercises we practice in class everday... Sure, a few inversions here and there, and PTW's repeat the top note of the triad.
haha wow they didn't sound close at all the rythem was more upbeat and not acoustic haha this is a complete and total FAILURE video hahaha nice try but wow.
ok i can see your point but im sure the plain white tee's didnt steal the melody they probably thought they made it up. basically what im saying is everything has been done b4 its pretty damn near impossible to write a song with chords that wont sound the same or similar to another song
are u stupid? if people start thinking that if there is a slim similarity in songs that they are automaticaly plagarized, that would mean that eventually every song will be plagarized, even if the person writing it had never heard the one before sounds a little crazy, doesn't it?
Hes not talking about the melodies hes talking about the vocals, they sounds a lot alike. And none of you guys would like the plain white T's if you met the singer and seen what his real personalities like when hes not in front of a crowd or a camera.
but seriously, everyone gets way too offended over these stupid little things. you'd imagine that the artists beig accused are close personal friends or something. it's f**king stupid.
Being a musician myself, i believe that I can offer a guided opinion. To start things out, the first 3 notes of the two songs are the same and, yes, at the end of each measure they both end in a note rather similar... but that's about where the resemblance ends. *Everything* between has absolutely no resemblance. I'm inclined to say that you have absolutely no musical ear...
Because of your detailed criticism, I feel inclined to respond. First of all, I am using the word "plagiarized" lightly here exactly because the similarity is only slight. The reason I put this video up in the first place was that the similarity was bothering me for days.
And regarding my musical ear, I highly suggest that you GFY.
yeah i guess they sound a tiny little bit similar but seriously u really think they stole it... hey there delila is faster and has different words (p.s plenty of popular songs use other songs in their songs its called sampling its not illegal if they have permission)

There is a SLIGHT resemblance, but to say that the Plain White T's flat out stole the melody is a stretch. It's not very similar and I don't think many people would side with you that they ripped The Byrds off.
Every band takes ideas from other bands...That's why there are so many bands that sound like each other...Granted this is more evident than usual but still

I was prepared to hear something much more blatant. I'm glad not only it's not (not that it would have been so really wrong in a way) but also I'm surprised anyone can hear a resemblance...
the tunes might sound the same, but it's not plagiarism. i've heard a lot of songs that sound similar with each other, but basically they're just different in a way.
Nah. Although similar, both tunes are basic enough that the Plain White T's could have thought of the tune not realizing something like it was used before.
no similarities

the tunes might sound the same, but it's not plagiarism. i've heard a lot of songs that sound similar with each other, but basically they're just different in a way.

Good to know, but, once again, probably not plagiarized. It's nice to compare though. Cool.

Not plagiarism imho.
Personally I find it more offensive that this is the only place on youtube where I could hear that Byrds song, but thanks for making the effort.

My pleasure. Any opportunity I can get to be an advocate for the Byrds and their music, I take it.

Nah. Although similar, both tunes are basic enough that the Plain White T's could have thought of the tune not realizing something like it was used before.
