  • and Neil breaks yet another stick. He hits so hard. I cannot believe he doesn't have any signs of carpal tunnel yet. I have been playing half as long as he has, and have the beginning signs of it.

  • I stand by the comment of 20 better though. I can and will back it up if you'd like!!

  • OK- Alex is a good guitarist- but the greatest ever- please. You're out of your mind. I could name 20 right now that are better, and not even a little better, ALOT better. What are you crazy?

  • You know, it doesn´t always have to be about being technical.

  • 20 guitarists better than Lifeson???..you're having a laugh right?.Lifeson has incredible compositional abilities and sense of melody that leaves all those Berklee shredding robots for dead!!

  • Hey "ultimate knowledge"sit down and listen to La Villa Strangiato it might do you good.Lifeson was around 23 years old when he came up with that work of genius.Me thinks you prefer souless shredding, guitar solos by numbers types!!.

  • I hate "shredders" too. You are right, they are souless. I've always enjoyed Rush's work, Alex is probably better suited to play classical music. I even hate the term "shredder". One of my all time favorite tunes is "Analog Kid", and that's for any band.

  • I think big Al doesn't get his due. He's one of the best of what I consider as a color guitarists. He's able to blend and weave textures that are still the standard today (i.e. Snakes and Arrows). As a lead/solo axe bender, he's not as strong, but Rush is not that kind of band...

  • Agreed, I always loved Rush, I just have an issue when someone says "the Greatest", Alex is very good. I will say I did prefer much of the earlier work as I think his newer sound isn't very "clean". Heavily phased and overdriven. But Rush is without question ONE of the great bands of all time.

  • try playing guitar and then say who's better.

  • The Chorus part (You move me, you move me...) makes every hair on my neck stand straight up. Very inspiring...

  • I remember listening to this album when it was just released, Listening to the Analog Kid chorus part, I felt as if I were being picked up and carried to some kind of astral plane. It was a very powerful experience for me -- without drugs I'd like to add.

I had been reading *The Fountainhead* by Ayn Rand during this same period, so naturally images of that story swept through me as I listened to this song.

I think Peart intended to convey The Fountainhead's sense of life in this song.

  • So it's fair to say the chorus "moves" you. ;-)

  • hahah nice one ;)

  • did I mention that I was at this show? :D

    #@!

  • no one cares u were there

  • I didn't ask if anyone did.

    #@!

  • did they play 2 1/2 hours then like they do now?

  • yes, they did. they actually do a better job of mixing up the setlist nowadays.

    #@!

  • best song

  • Alex Lifeson = greatest guitarist ever

  • Canada has Rush, Texas has ZZ Top. And life is better with both.

  • oh god, i cant belive geddys playing that main riff up THERE! its hard enough near the headstock with all the open notes

  • This song was so important to me back then...

  • Nice hair Alex : )

  • one of the greatest rush songs ever!

  • How about that Geddy!

  • probably one of the most underrated guitarists

  • memories lots of memories I forever love RUSH !

  • And the boy pulls down his Blue Jays cap and covers up his eyes......

  • LOL!

  • Yeah, as a fan and a selfish fan at that, I just want to know, how will this affect their touring, song writing, and me being able to fo to the show... Congrats to Neil but hell, I want another RUSH TOUR....

  • Neil is going to be Daddy again...Carrie is 6 months pregnant

  • Yes, this is great news for Neil! But it will probably impede songwriting progress and delay a possible tour. Oh, well, the point of the journey is not to arrive!

    Anything can happen...

  • YES!!

    PRIME MOVER FTW!

    I like that song. : P

  • they still played it like prefectly 12 years after the album....geddy still hits the high notes and neil is beat for beat

  • yes this is the best quality ive seen on youtube..ive loved this song since grade school only a true rush fan understands how great a band they are.all of signals was great i thought camera eye is awesome and so is analog kid ..rush you rule!!!!!!

  • camera man is from moving pictures i think..just putting it out there if you didnt know

  • Camera Eye

  • yup yup it sure is from moving pictures..i know all of the older songs/albums i like the grace under pressure cd also i think rush is 1 of the best 3 man bands ever..and alex is getting older and has been playing for along time so im sure he is better then most guitarist ...thks for the reply i guess they making another cd and gonna tour in 2010

  • People just don't know music? Alex lifeson could keep up with any guitar player in the world, their still selling out stadiums..go figure??

  • the solo sounded too echoey lol i could barely hear it

  • Dude the quality is awesome as are the other vids I've seen from you of this show. I must have a copy of this whats it from?

  • It's from an unreleased DVD called "A View From the Palace". I don't know how to get one though.

  • Look, I've been a Rush fan since the first album. Fly By Night turned it all around with Neil Peart. He is an outstanding drummer and lyracist since the comming of Compact Disc. Hats off to RUSH!!!!

  • Love this song! I really love the part "you move me, you move me"!!!!!!!!!!

  • The most underrated Rush song.

  • Yes

  • most underrated Rush album...

  • Underratded, why? I always heard from many people that "Signals" is an excelent album, and that´s my opinion too.

  • Every Rush fan i've come across has put this album in the middle...to me it was their best. Critics slammed it. Non-fans had a meh opinion. So I think it was underrated.

  • now a days, rush is extremly underrated.. only songs people know are tom sawyer and yyz . alex lifeson is underrated also, because he has to compete with fucking neil on drums! and geddy lee is like one of the top ten bassists. LONG LIVE RUSH!!!@!@!@

  • They need to put this song back in the setlist for the next tour!

  • i just looket at ticket and it was 2007 not 2008, what a numpty!!!

  • also both geddy and neil are shit hot musicians as well.felt guilty leaving them out of last comment.1000 pardons and all that!!

  • yeah but alex lifeson never gets any credit for anything

  • If that ain't the truth...

  • i'm sorry i've only just replied to you but i most definately agree, that he is criminally underated as a guitarist.i have been lucky enough to see rush twice at nec uk in 2004 and 2008.absolutely fantastic!!!he is one of my all time fav guitarists along with dave gilmour and steve rothery from marillion!!!thank you and goodnight!!!

  • not a bad selection of axe players, Rothery is a delight to watch and listen to, love him just behind Neal Schon though....

  • thanks for replying.i'm afraid that i do not know much about neal schon, apart from gibson making him a re issue les paul, with a floyd rose and fernandes sustainer pickup(hope i got that right?).i will certainly check him out though.he definatly sounds an awesome guitarist!!!peace!!!

  • alex lifeson.the man!!!

  • Three words....

    Oh

    My

    God...

first time listening to song.... awesome..

  • best recorderd post 80s guitar solo ever

  • Absolutely BAD-ASS!!

  • kick. ass.

  • Simply Beautiful...

  • rush is rush

  • Loud!

  • these guys have always been geniuses

  • Ew, Alex Lifeson's crappy hairstyle.

But this is one of my favourite solos, so it doesn't matter.

I love the relationship between the drums and the synths, as well.

  • Okay...so they arent the most photogenic guys. But they are top-shelf muscians, hands down. Living legends.

  • im pretty sure he was complimenting rush overall there.. but yeah... they are definetly 3 of the ugliest musicians of there time.

thank god they didnt get into the glam scene.

  • now that they're older, they don't look as unattractive. the years have done them some good, along with the fact that they didn't/don't do drugs.

  • his hair is not that bad

  • that beat during the chorus is one of neils finest ;)

  • HOLY CRAP! Definetly the greatest solo off of Signals. The track follows Subdivisions, which has a slow melodic solo. Then this puppy's kicked in! Rush, my obsession, my drug, take this, Hemispheres, Stick it Out, out of the vault. RUSH FOR LIFE WOOO!!!!!

  • Great song and I LOVE this live version. BUt they are better accross the board anyway. His phrasing is so good in this song. This one is in my top 5 favorite songs

  • Rush fan or not, there's not that much arguement the Neil Peart is THE best drummer ever. But then again I am a Rush fan...

  • y dident this get in stores

  • For my money probably the best Rush song ever. Fabulous!

  • Learning This Guitar Solo About Killed Me.

    Lol

I Went Almost A Solid Month On It.

  • just read your comment.respect man!!!i am awful at guitar.the only rush track that i can "attempt" to play is limelight.i hope one day mr lifesons mojo might shine my way!!!

  • Lol

Limelight is the second hardest Rush solo i know.

and i still cant do it.

  • thanks for replying!keep rockin man!!!

  • In a world of mediocre musicians and performers that are adored by millions it is refreshing that there is real talent like RUSH still around. Great lyrics, great music and love of their art = memorable music. Thank you RUSH!

  • AGREED!! i think geddy lee, jaco pastorius, and jesus need to come together and make a crime fighting team!

  • I couldn't agree more. No lip syncing here. A mainstay of rock music in my life.

  • FAVORITE RUSH SONG

  • VERY NICE!!! This had to of been an inside job. I use to have this boot and I lost it.. It is great quality.

  • what dvd is this?

  • It's a bootleg DVD titled "A View From The Palace" and is only available via free trade, or download from sites like TapeCity or The Trader's Den.

  • cool. thanks.

  • Is this illegal?

  • This is the greatest rush song in the universe next to 2112 and hemispheres and losing it and well... all of them... but still its an AWSOME vid!

  • wow man RUSH ROCKS!

  • I was at this show! If I remember right, this was the 2nd or 3rd song in the set.

  • Cool! I only wish I could have been at this show. An yes, this was the third song in the set, following The Spirit Of Radio, and the opener: Dreamline.

  • hey dude what's the name of this bootleg??? can I find a torrent to download it??? thanks for the vids lol

  • The name of this show is "A View From The Palace". It's a 2-DVD show, so that means 8.16GB. As for the torrent, try TapeCity or The Trader's Den. You won't find it on DIME, because it does not agree with DIME's TOS. Happy downloading! :-)

  • thanks dude.... I've got this torrent already and I'm downloading it... maybe next month i´ll see this dvd xD... hey I think You Should Obviously know about it but the Neil's drum solo of this show appears on His dvd Anathomy Of A drum Solo... did you posted this vid too?? i'll check it out. thanks again lol

  • I do know about Neil's solo, it's part of the DVD, however, as you mentioned, it appears on his "Anatomy Of A Drum Solo" DVD, which is an official release. Therefore, posting the video wouldn't abide by YouTube's Terms Of Service. But other than that, the entire show is posted here on YT! :-)

  • yeah shure I forgot About the copyright... however it's a great show and great posting as many of your other rush bootlegs. I have a band and we play rush and the bootlegs (specially your posts) help us a lot to reproduce the live performance. thanks soh much dude =D

  • You're quite welcome! :-D

  • this exact version is actually the one we hear on "different stages"

  • Correct. However, this is not the exact audio from Different Stages. The one on Different Stages is processed and mastered -- this source is raw, with minor EQ adjustments. But this is the date/show The Analog Kid was taken from on the Different Stages live album, as you mentioned. :-)

  • It is interesting to see the subtle differences they made before they put out the album. Being that I am from Detroit, I am a huge fan of this bootleg. Wish to get my hands on a copy one of these days

  • Yeah, you can hear at the start, Ged misses the first little bit of "A hot and windy August afternoon..." but on DS, it sounds fine. Either they corrected it in the studio, or he actually DID say the line flawlessly, and they're source picked it up. They were probably getting the audio straight of the soundboard, whereas in this bootleg, the audio is scanner sourced. Which is similar to a soundboard but not quite the same. :-)
