  • He sounds like Egon from Ghostbusters...LOL

  • yeah, with a mix of Tom Green at times.

  • You did good, nothing wrong with capitalism. Most people's time is to valuable to spend re-inventing the wheel. If buying a template saves me 2 hours of work then it was well worth it.

  • keep it up

  • First. I cant put up with the unethical people who come to the opensoftware success with their commercial paying stuffs. Second, I have been to your site and I resent your despising comments on Joomla as if it were a hard thing and we would need your help upon payment. Your site is rubbish and you try to sell us your services. We will learn on our own, and our time is worth too because knowledge pays off, it is valuable too. Get out of the open source and go to Microsoft to see ur stuff.

  • Dang, calling someone Microsoft is the ultimate insult among geeks. Open Source is fantastic I regret that these videos may have tarnished the open source ethic, I thought perhaps giving free tutorials to help people would be consistent with that ethic, unfortunately I failed you some how.

  • Please understand, when you undertake a site with open source code you may be getting code from the guy next door and not a professional development firm. If your site breaks who do you call? Joe next door? What leverage do you have upon Joe to have him fix your site? Sometimes its good to pay for something because then you have fiscal leverage.

  • I have no problem with you or anyone who wants to do their site themselves, but some people don't want to learn php, css, javascript, xhtml, xml, & SQL, all of which are used for Joomla. You wouldn't mock your neighbor for purchasing a handyman to fix their sink, just because you went to home depot and figured out yourself. Likewise, please understand we are like the handyman service and people shouldn't feel like they are doing anything wrong by trying to save a buck with our services

  • Why do you speak like that????We are not stupids, you sound like a ridiculous sales man, anyway good information

  • lol. well.. i think he's trying Not to make it boring. Most of these tuorials are.

  • Seriously, I was thinking...Mr. Rogers..

  • I always advise to install a template with as FEW (if any) "extras" as possible. First and foremost, install a template that matches the LAYOUT (in terms of positions) that you envision because changing the layout is THE hardest thing to do. The extras that come with templates are usually scaled down (ie less versatile) versions of extensions that can be installed separately. And, if you try to install the better separate extensions, they WILL clash with the included ones.

    - My 2 cents

  • Example?

YooTheme, arguably THE premiere template club has templates with an included YooSlider menu module, BUT the menu items are AUTO-generated from the main menu. The included version is NOT versatile. YooTheme also has the YooSlider available to be installed separately and it is VERY configurable, BUT if you install it on one of there templates that already has the included version you WILL have BIG problems. I run into this issue time and time again.

  • Yoo theme is a good template company. They lack templates though, as they are young. They have branched out into making mootooled modules to go with their brand. They have approached things correctly in my opinion, remove the fluff from the template, put it into modules, unlike others who write it directly into the template (which is not what a template is for!). Thank you for your comments, much has changed since I made these videos. Pro templates are still the way to go, but watch for fluff!

  • Your 2 cents are worth quite a bit! The point of looking at what is added to the template is an indicator of whether the template creator spent any time on it. Pro templates add a bunch to their templates, most importantly typography, but lately much of it has been "fluff" and it tends to bogg down your site with too many options! I'm hoping they'll start using image sprites and take a second look at where the industry has been traveling the past 6 months, because they seem to be out of touch.

  • agreed.

I watched all your videos because I found your Joomla Packages promo video first and was skeptical, but you DO know your stuff.

People have rated you down here because they, like most, come looking for free templates, but your point is absolutely true and people should listen.

No question that free templates are less versatile, offering fewer module positions, and are less aesthetically pleasing. The ONLY reason they offer them is in hopes you will "trade up".

    Rgds

  • you are so bad!!!!!!!!!!!!

    he he he he

  • LOL, I love this comment, "i could no finish see your video"...how cute. For he last time, we don't sell templates, this is a video about what to look out for.
