The fight design was pretty good. The fight direction had to be difficult, because the Ansatsuken they learned from Gouken was not a real style :P (no, it's NOT Shotokan. That was an error on the part of a lazy translator.) But this is pretty spot-on. It looks like a fusion of Kung-Fu flow with just a touch of Karate for added flair.
Capcom provided blessings for the short film so please, please, PLEEEEAAASEEE make this a real full length movie. Seriously, you WILL get a lot of money so please do this. The world needs a good videogame movie besides the first mortal kombat movie.
I personally find the fight scenes believable in real life and yet relatable to the game itself, so I was pretty impressed!
Just that the CG of their Hadouken and Shoryuken could be better, could be more dramatic with the lights, flares and stuff to make them more impressive! That was the only part lacking and my only complain.
@86HairMetal that makes no sense , so what if you do martial arts and also body build? take some one like the one of the tkd champions bren foster he is super buff
@chunchoe My friend a martial-artist isn't just about kicks and punches. What about a weapon specialist? Take this for an instance: you're buff (BULKY) & you THINK that tiny Asian douche is physically limited in comparison to you. You think he's unarmed.. when the reality is you don't see that TINY 2" Kerambit blade concealed in his fist. You both engage, thinking he's unarmed - then he carves YOUR buff & beautiful body into raspberry cheesecake. Does size matter? Yes & no - you decide.
@86HairMetal but that wasn't what this was about , it was about ryu not fitting the role and people trying to defend that by saying a martial art it has to be extremely thin and ripped , which i was saying isnt true at all size really doesnt matter , i dont doubt jon foo is a good martial artist but he doesnt fit the role of ryu by design
@chunchoe Stereotyping a pugilist is subjective. Still, to emulate SF characters to the finest detail, including their moves & making it look convincing is hard; God knows how many zeros we are dealing here, in terms of budget. Also, what if Ryu actually literally came to life, buff & all but moves in a clumsy manner? That's not aesthetically pleasing, right? But that's the reality of the protoypical beef-cake - clumsy! He might pull off a shoryuken but my grandma can make it look better! Lol!
@chunchoe No offence to Bren Foster, he's written some great books for martial-artists; but martial-arts isn't all about ring tournaments. Your definition of a martial-artist is, perhaps a physically trained athlete. Fine. Still, elsewhere in the rough ghettos and slumps out there, a martial-artist isn't out for trophies. It's a matter of life-and-death when you have to kill or be killed and seriously, those dudes aren't idealists. They're not buff, but they're tougher than many would imagine.

@chunchoe Oh I see, your context of a martial-artist here is narrowed down to performing arts, then. The term martial-arts is very collective, but I get it. My bad on that part. When it comes to watching fighting-movies, I've had it all! Even B-rated, crappy productions featuring karatekas like the size of Arnie in Conan The Barbarian! Man, he can't even lift a normal jump crescent-kick, how would you expect the likes of him to pull off Ryu's hurricane kick? Scott Adkins is THE exception!
@86HairMetal i was about to say scott adkins! haha honestly , i dont doubt jon foo is a good preforming martial artist , but then again , bren foster/scott adkins fit the role alot better , of course all i was really saying is that i dont think jon foo suits it AT ALL , he is also a bad actor ( as seen in tekken , fuckin entire movie SUCKED )

@banzadoom WTF are you talking about?.. Body Builders? Yeah thats the thing to do put actors in with over-sized muscles who can barely move, have little to no flexibility & are robotic, & slow. Their size is actually perfect if you base their look more off the old Street Fighter game as to SF 4 series where they are a little too big. Now if they had a Zangief or T-Hawk in this that was the size of these guys your argument would be valid. Otherwise you just sound retarded. GREAT JOB fella's!

Great training guys, just like the REAL characters! Will you guys keep going to make more Short-films of Street Fighter with more Rival matches of the game SSFIV? like: Ryu vs Sagat Dan vs Sakura Chun Li vs C.Viper Cammy vs Juri Guile vs Bison Abel vs Seth E. Honda vs Hakan And the rest of the characters? because in that road, you will be remember as the greatest producers of this internet movie until you get to Hollywood and keep followed by the fans of this game! included me. Andrew
@An0m1n0us I guess your right, because the 2 SF live action films wen out of the story line, i mean: on The Legend of Chun Li, the actress she´s not even a half like the beautiful character, they forgot the real hairstyle and the most important, the costume; oh and the rest of the characters too.
On the 1994 film, Ryu wasn´t the main character, it was Guile (even that i like it because he was played by Jeaun Claude Van Damme) and many characters ALMOST are like the original characters i guess
@An0m1n0us I dont know, i guess it got more popular when SFII came to the arcades and later to the big screen with the 1994 live action film and later with an animated movie, but your right, SFI was the beginning of this exciting game fighting experience in the world.
this short fan film is amazing you should make more characters and then make a movie on your camera for like 1 hour 30 minutes then post it to youtube
Jon Foo from what I've read is hald Irish and hald Chinese he was not only in Tekken as Jin but also the protector which had Tony Jaa in it. Jaa needs more movies made I just saw Ong-bak 3 pretty cool movie. I think Jon and Tony will make it really big soon in the movie industry.
1.51-153.. that's the perspective i want to watch at any martial art movie.. at that part, i enjoy watching the background and the actor's movements. the movie would be useless if they just show us only "fist and face view" on a fight scene.
I think any movie that is based on the game would be great if they stuck to the story of the game. Once they start changing shit around like storywise and actors that are nowhere close to being/portraying the character that's when they fail. They want to hire actors which are already famous and whom they have to pay millions of dollars to come out in the movie, when they can find an actor just as good and pay him a couple of hundred thousands who look far more believable to the games characters.
Some points to improve: Shoryuken has a spin to it, not vertically up (looks fake); hadoken move could be improved (head bend lower, follow through motion etc..).
This is only one of the really good films that I can call a real film made based on a game. This is top notch quality, each aspect of the game were took into consideration, plots, moves, costumes. Kudos, its very very awesome. I WANT A FULL FILM SERIES BY THEM!
@freakdante jajaja Capcom endorced this! Read the description in the video. Also, in 2:49 in the bottom left corner it says "For internal CAPCOM viewing only" so yeah, they saw it! :D

In my humble opinion the most comom mistake in fight movies is to make it to flasy. While some extend of fantasy is comprehensible and desireble, put what you actually learn in fight lesons makes it all look much more beautifull in the end.
As a construtive critics, some camera angles didn't show the fight movements very well. I could only notice Ryu block on Ken's second knee atack in ths video, and some of their handwork is not clear also.
Of all in this short movie, the fight coreography is surely it's greatest feature. I am definetively not trying to play a fight expert here but the moves looks realistics while still being faithful to the moves in the game (nobody realy expects a move like the tatsumaki to be efective in real fight, right?).
you guys should seriously make a full length movie, with what ive seen you guys could do street fighter some justice not like those shitywood failures.
where can i singh to have this made a movie. seriously they should consider these ppl instead of that crappy LEGEND OF CRAP LI shit that just failed at life
absolutely awesome the fact that they studied the way the characters fight and did not go way too out there with the fight scene, which would have been very easy to lose sight of who the characters are. They held back and committed to keeping it as pure as possible showing lots of discipline that comes from being True Martial Artists. Two Thumbs Way Up
@Passions #1 is unnecessary since, no matter his origins, Ryu has never looked very Japanese. and even #2 is overstated since i dont think anyone would ever expect the actors to look like their behemoth character art. i mean in the games, it always looks like their arms are thicker than their legs and they have no necks.
@freakdante Yes, i totally agree with you guys. With no money they can do awesome movies like this one, maintaining the spirit of the original story of Street Fighter. Hollywood spend milions and more milions and the result is very poor.
@Kuroisonic Hollywood mostly use just the franchise to make money. They try to make money and don't care about spirits. Because they are not fans just bussiness mens. The true spirits can be caped only in things you put your heart into.
@Kuroisonic And this guys did find the REAL spirit of a Street Fighter like the videogames when we playe it.
Also if they want to take this film more of the limit, we need a GOOD Asian Hollywood Director who can help on the sequel and make an awesome Plot with the rest of the characters; somebody like the director of "Dragonball: Evolution"
@HuevosRotos And the only director who can help this guys make more longer the sequel is that Asian dude from "DragonBall: Evolution" or what other Hollywood director can help us in this kind of Situation!
John Foo just doesn't cut it for me he is not really built or does he look japanese let alone oriental. If he couldn't pull off Jin he can't possibly pull off Ryu
I've seen some fairly sized Japanese guys on tv, and with my own eyes I've seen some fairly sized Asians but don't know if they were Japanese. By tank, you probably mean how big Ryu looks in SFIV. The characters aren't suppose to be that big, but it still looks and works great. The actors don't have to be that big, but they're suppose to be bigger than the guys in this video. Doesn't anybody remember Bolo Yeung, he's chinese though.
PLEASE MAKE A MOVIE!, Man seriously you guys are not like the other dutchbag directors who make video game movies without playing and loving the games. YOU GUYS OWN!
Assuming Capcom goes for it and a format deal is worked out, Ansah's already ready to tackle the next part of the story.
"Luckily, I have I would say 80 percent of all the characters already cast," he said. "You've seen my Ryu and Ken and me as [nightmare version] Akuma... I've got a lot of the other characters bookmarked. There's a couple that I would need to do quite a wide casting search for. Chun-Li's a tough one."
Why are they always messing with Ryu's character? I want Ryu to be played by an actor who's 100% Japanese. You can argue about how he looks in the games but the fact is that in the Street Fighter story he's Japanese, not White or half Asian. I do feel that the SFIV Ryu is the most accurate as looking like a Japanese guy, but SF is made by Japanese developers, I can't understand why they just don't make him look completely Asain.
@andyandy619 I've seen some fairly sized Japanese guys on tv, and with my own eyes I've seen some fairly sized Asians but don't know if they were Japanese.
@andyandy619 Yes he was, he was one of Bruce Lee's greatest friends. He was also in many 80's and 90's flicks. People probably remember him most in Blood Sport with John Claude Van Damme.
Jon Foo's face is like "Oh shit, I'm being typecast as the Japanese guy in fighting game movies". He's Jin Kazama in the Tekken film which I'm also gonna watch. :D
Are you going to make more?

The fight scene is good but....
-there's a lot of slow motions, i think it would be great if it only happens rarely
-haduken effect is good, but when it was released, it was lacking of effects, wasn't that strong, also when it hits ken
-also with the shoryuken, the fire is nice, same with the execution but there no impact
-the characters are a little college look. Based on the game, i think they should look like mature and have big, hard muscles
But it was fun, its good...

However, Ken's arm needed to be up when blocking the hadouken

This movie is perfection and creativity while Hollywood is money without spirit.

where can i singh to have this made a movie. seriously they should consider these ppl instead of that crappy LEGEND OF CRAP LI shit that just failed at life
sr7olsniper 1 year ago
absolutely awesome the fact that they studied the way the characters fight and did not go way too out there with the fight scene, which would have been very easy to lose sight of who the characters are. They held back and committed to keeping it as pure as possible showing lots of discipline that comes from being True Martial Artists. Two Thumbs Way Up

1) Replace Ryu with a REAL Japanese actor.
2) Make the actors work out a bit more.
This movie could be EPIC!!!!!
Passions 1 year ago
@Passions #1 is unnecessary since, no matter his origins, Ryu has never looked very Japanese. and even #2 is overstated since i dont think anyone would ever expect the actors to look like their behemoth character art. i mean in the games, it always looks like their arms are thicker than their legs and they have no necks.

Hollywood took two movies and still didn't find the spirit of the street fighter series that you found in 3 minutes, awesome.
Kuroisonic 1 year ago 107
@Kuroisonic totally agree with you, and I think that everyone here agree's with that
freakdante 1 year ago
@freakdante Yes, i totally agree with you guys. With no money they can do awesome movies like this one, maintaining the spirit of the original story of Street Fighter. Hollywood spend milions and more milions and the result is very poor.
antonifc 1 year ago
@Kuroisonic Hollywood mostly use just the franchise to make money. They try to make money and don't care about spirits. Because they are not fans just bussiness mens. The true spirits can be caped only in things you put your heart into.
Heelo23 1 year ago
@Kuroisonic And this guys did find the REAL spirit of a Street Fighter like the videogames when we playe it.
Also if they want to take this film more of the limit, we need a GOOD Asian Hollywood Director who can help on the sequel and make an awesome Plot with the rest of the characters; somebody like the director of "Dragonball: Evolution"
MrWweytnafan 1 year ago
we need this on cinema now!

Street Fighter is really fun, but there is no way that that the story is good enough for a movie. The story is definitely backseat to the gameplay.

@horeslayer there is a storyline, and a good one at that.granted its not that coherent, it can be all worked in the end by these guys.

callofgears91 1 year ago
I've seen some fairly sized Japanese guys on tv, and with my own eyes I've seen some fairly sized Asians but don't know if they were Japanese. By tank, you probably mean how big Ryu looks in SFIV. The characters aren't suppose to be that big, but it still looks and works great. The actors don't have to be that big, but they're suppose to be bigger than the guys in this video. Doesn't anybody remember Bolo Yeung, he's chinese though.

Why Ryu ware Beer Chang T-Shirt? Is he come from Thailand?

supernadeznugga 1 year ago
Why are they always messing with Ryu's character? I want Ryu to be played by an actor who's 100% Japanese. You can argue about how he looks in the games but the fact is that in the Street Fighter story he's Japanese, not White or half Asian. I do feel that the SFIV Ryu is the most accurate as looking like a Japanese guy, but SF is made by Japanese developers, I can't understand why they just don't make him look completely Asain.

@andyandy619 Yes he was, he was one of Bruce Lee's greatest friends. He was also in many 80's and 90's flicks. People probably remember him most in Blood Sport with John Claude Van Damme.
