  • this is so amazing!

  • Not feeling it. No hate

  • Got to love the harmonies on this.

  • You can't say an artist is like someone else...but if i had...i would say Sonic Youth are the new Velvet Underground and Beck's the cross between David Bowie and Bob Dylan....FUCKIN' AMAZING!!!

  • Fantastic upload, thanks!

  • @bassik123 They have been described as experimental and no wave.Even though they still can be classified as no wave, because they were part of that whole movement in NY. But when I first heard them, I thought post-grunge punk instantly. Don't know why. They remind me of UFOS.

  • its funny how all my favorite bands like are all good friends. That's awesome.

  • hehe :-P

  • Kim sounds very Nico-esque.

  • Beck must have been so pissed when he listened to this after putting so much work in to his cover.

  • Really? He probably just shrugs it off with a laugh. I see your point though. I'm a huge fan of sonic youth and even i am tired of their sort of ironic covers.

  • I've just never "gotten" the whole Sonic Youth "thing." lol

I've tried and tried. They're just...unlistenable for the most part. I gave in to the 90s hipster thing for a long time and thought I was somehow lacking because I didn't understand their lo-fi gimmick, but it's Sonic Youth who's lacking, to me.

  • Nah bro. When Sonic Youth does shit like this it's all in good humor. They're not serious when they make just senseless noise.

  • Well, I can definitely appreciate that, then. And that would tend to make them much more like Beck in that sense. Thanks for the explanation and not calling me a cum burping curb whore just for not liking what you like. lol

  • Yeah man, they've always had a very subtle sense of humor about them. Thurston's solo material makes much more use of absurdity and there's a few tracks on various SY albums that are obviously just random and pointless (i.e. Providence)

  • Honestly?

    You're missing out.

I mean, if you develop your ear a little more, you'll find that there are a lot of other things out there that make this look like legitimate "pop."

Check out some Boredoms, This Heat, Throbbing Gristle; music is vast and full of possibilities.

  • I mean, I get it. I have a developed ear. I dig Frank Zappa at times, or Captain Beefheart at other times...hell, some of Beck's stuff is really inaccessible, and I love it all. I don't go for "pop" stuff at all usually. I just never heard anything that warranted a second listen from Sonic Youth. They're just not my thing. I can see where they'd be someone else's thing maybe, but...sadly, it's just not for me.

  • how many sy albums do you know?

because every album i own has a unique sound

many of their songs aren't even noise rock anymore

you can dislike their music but don't say their albums sound all the same because that's just not true

  • I'm with you there

  • @blablablabla1121 well, if they all sound like crap, that's the same... i like this though O:-)

  • I waas exactly like this until i heard DIRTY. Now i love sonic youth

  • It's probably hard for people to get into this band because all their songs are 5+minutes. I think people just simply don't have enough time to give them the listen they deserve

  • I like how SY turned this song into a fucked up Christmas Carol.

  • i find it pretty hilarious. xactly what you wouldn't expect a Sonic Youth song to sound like.

  • I dont know if I approve.... It really doesn't seem like they are embracing the meaning to the song. But thanks for posting!

  • Thanks for posting this so everyone could hear it.

However, I'll have to say after a few listens it just doesn't pop for me. Big Sonic Youth and Beck fan but the song doesn't do either of them justice

  • wow, very interesting.

  • hm, this one is a bit more, shall we say, lackadaisical compared with Beck's cover of their song. On an up note, their new single sounds like the proverbial million bucks routed through a hot wired eastern european fuzz pedal
