  • soooo good .

  • This song is so awesome.

  • I set the speakers outside to shoot hoops to this (and others) It was my favorite album for awhile. Nice to see that others remember this fondly.

  • one of my first albums

  • jazz-rock fusion is some of my favorite music - the energy, the chops, the mind-bending changes - bring it back, can't we have a retro JRF movement?

  • When you hear the phrase about someone, or something, being "ahead of it's time" , it really doesn't apply to this or Jan Hammer in general. Time doesn't really have any affect on this issue, because nothing before, since, or anytime in the future, sounds like the unique compositional prowess of Jan Hammer. He can play classical music, and then turn around and take a basic rock and roll beat and turn it into something like nothing else, like he did with Blue Wind. There's nothing like him ever.

  • Excellent write-up. Spot on. At some point Hammer and Goodman collaborated with Jeff Beck, and a live recording of some of these tracks was released. Worth it if you can get it.

  • Way ahead of their time. Sounds as good today as it did then. A very underappreciated album. Jan and Jerry ROCK !!!

  • Great stuff, if interested Jerry Goodman was with a local band called "The Flock" very rockin

  • wonderfull ..so uch memories ..hum the 70's . still so good . .

  • man ma deepest memories are still available and alive on youtube ..fuckn hey ,,good stufff ...early fusion ,,no pollution .

  • These two guys make fushion everybody should like. Jerry and John were very important in the Mahavishnu Orchestra and they make very good music themselves, without mr. John McLaughlin. Does anybody know what mr. Goodman is doing now?

  • @thegerrie19561 Playing with Dixie Dregs.

  • Can someone please post Orangotango from On The Future Of Aviation. Big Thanks.

  • SUPER DANKE

  • 11,000 viewers so far-lets get that number up there-1973 Mahavishnu Orchestra then Jerry & Jans album -I know you're out there-please respond-Mahavishu Orchestra's Birds of Fire went Gold-so I know there are more of you out there- sound off-let's pass this music on to everyone who would hear & appreciate. Thanks

  • Alwayz been drived by this excellent cut!!!

  • this song is so awesome, sadly the rest of the album isn't quite as good. The lost trident sessions had the best versions of the songs from this album and between nothingness & eternity IMO

  • @hotlanta71 yes on this track the energy of MO the first has been preserved. I always loved Goodman`s solos on MO albums, but his own bands could never meet my taste and Jan Hammer became later more a pop musician, playing all instruments, I know he is also a capable drummer but in my opinion all of them , even Billy Cobham had their peak during MO the first, especially during that final period of nothingness and eternity Rick Laird even finished his career soon afterwards.

  • Is it just me or is this one of the best album covers of all time? It perfectly captures the title and the innocence and sense of adventure that goes with it.

I love the music, of course. That goes without saying. Jan has always been a huge favourite of mine.

  • I HAD THIS ALBUM WHEN IT CAME OUT, STILL SOUNDS GREAT TODAY. THANKS FOR POSTING THIS!

  • greatest thing I've heard on youtube since dweezil and ahmet jamming with john tesh on conan.....thanks for the awesome flashback, dude!

  • like children x2

they are free to be up or down

    free to be sad

until we tell them not to cry

dance to country and eastern music

feel the sweet balance of life

    cry all night

  • ?? keep on kneel keep on grinning work the meat right off your bone it will pay off happiness is what you want isn't it? ?? is it what you're hearing all night long did you ever think that all these voices might be wrong then you wonder what's the matter with your brain you are no more getting more of everything
  • @cashoo22 The first shout I cant unravel but the second one is I suppose (in Czech) "Pivo, víno" = beer, wine.

  • @janvlcek thanks, that's interesting.

  • @cashoo22 -- (my comments) [your lyrics] Get Up! Sing Out! [keep on - kneel!] (I can't make any sense of that one, "kneel," but I agree w/your lyric there) [... what you want, isn't it?] Far Out! This song - [is it what you're hearing ...] (and) [... then you wonder what's the matter with your ] way you are no more getting taller every day (very clever, that one :) [like children] that's what I've had in that little lyric crevice in my ole brain replies are welcome, of course
  • @DoctorPatient As far as I can figure your corrections are right, and thanks so much. You have a good ear.

  • get up sing out keep on kneel keep on grinning work your meat right off your bone it will pay off happiness is what you hold (isnt it) burn out- this song this is what you're hearing all night long did you ever think that all these voices might be wrong then you wonder whats the matter with your brain you are no more getting taller everyday like childen they are free to be up or down free to to be sad until we tell them not to cry dance to country and eastern music etc, can't fit the last
  • I can't figure out all the lyrics. These are what I have so far, any help is appreciated.

  • One of these amazing albums of the early 80s!!

Thanx for bringing it back in my mind here!!

Loved it then, love it now!!

  • @lekkerebek ... Err ... 70s bro!

  • @rob57uk - Sorry Rob, my bad!! I just guess I don´t feel that old already .... time flies man, time flies! :-/

  • The vocals are most unfortunate on what is otherwise a great piece.

  • Like I said before, this recording is the ONLY one of it's kind. There is nothing like it in jazz or anything else including mahavishnu hindu orchestra, rock...or anything. Period. This is better, and only 2 excellent musicians! The one super tune you left off is a tribute to their sense of timing without Tony Williams on here, no less. I can't believe you didn't include the cool one of a kind song, Topeka ;-(

  • Played this track and was fooled by the mellow opening - when they came roaring in t was not only enjoyable, we had quite a laugh.

  • A little Jeff Beck here kinda.....

  • I was surprised to learn that Hammer spent a time working quite extensively with Jeff Beck

  • Alucinante.

  • I have this album, its good.

  • Thanks for this although I never knew it existed.

  • thanks!

  • As much as I love JMac, and indeed learned the entire M.O. catalogue on guitar when I was a kid, here we see MUCH of the genius behind the Mahavishnu Orchestra. -and I wouldn't be upset about the theme for Miami Vice. How many jazz guys get to be millionaires anyway? If it wasn't for Mercy Mercy Mercy, there may have not been a Weather Report...

  • Weather Report are overrated. The sum is less than the parts.

  • @awesomewelles90 I guess you wrote that on opposite day.

  • got to meet jan in toronto.what a total honor it was..

  • Last time I saw the Dregs, Goodman was in the band. Hasn't lost a step. I remember buying this LP as well as the Mahavishnu LPs he played on

  • Esta guapa la composición... me gusta la intervención de las cuerdas, violín?... esta guapo!!

    Cute!!

  • Gawd so long ago: I still have my original LP. such memories of burning the grooves off this album. takes me back to the time of my amazing teen years lstening to greatest era in music

  • Such a shame that most folks only know Hammer for Miami Vice.. It was the best TV theme ever, but there was so much before that.. Like this.

  • The whole excellent "Like Children" album is one of my favorites of all time. It's pretty obscure, so I'm very happy to see it here!!!

  • Amazing!

  • Jan Hammer really knew how to play the mini-moog. Great on the pitch and modulation wheels.

  • WOW! Had completely forgotten this song for years! What a nice re-discovery. Thanks, SRB - Great share - Love it.

  • One of my favorite songs of all time .

  • Bless you for this. My favorite solo Hammer tune. Never fails to impress!

  • Haven't heard this in years!! Goodman's gypsy violin...unforgettable. Last time I heard this I was 14 yrs old. Think I'll go to Amazon and see if this available! Thanks for the post.

  • Talk about bringing back some memories! I saw Jerry Goodman in 70 or was it 71, when he was playing with The Flock out of Chicago. Wow!

  • I thought I was the only person who had this album. Anyone else please post "Night". It's FUBR on my record.

    Thanks

  • SUPER MUSIC !

  • Bella pieza.

  • Feel the sweet balance of life!

  • You just beat me to it. Great post.
