EVERY religion goes through it's cult phase. Some, like Christianity or Buddhism or Islam, start with a charismatic leader working within the confines of an established popular doctrine within their region. i.e. Judaism and Hinduism leading to those others. Other not-so-revolutionary changes are merely a change in doctrine that, while keeping the name, soon come to add variations that become the most popular. Judaism itself for instance or the various councils of Rome.

I know see the Mormon missionaries speak with the proverbial forked tongue. You come to our doors telling us the church had fallen away and needed to be restored. Yes I have the entire J of D and I have read the multiple discourses he gave on Adam. I have also read Joseph Fielding Smith's opinions in Doctrines of Salvation and find them to be total BS. It was not an error by the person recording the revelation! If thats the case it would have to be written and heard wrong dozens of times by dozens of different scribes. If it truly was an error, they wouldn't have printed it in Millennial Star and everyother church publication at the time.

When you see someone like J.F.S. blatantly lying in an official church book, about something that was incontrovertably true, dosen't that send up a red flag. J.F.S. had to know it was officially taught and approved by the church. Testimony was given of that truth by all of the Apostles except Orson Pratt, he was God in the temple ceremony, if it was just a misunderstanding it was the largest one in history! I've never seen a typo turn into a church-wide doctrine. Do you think he lied?

Like when we read the bible there is nothing in there that Paul wrote that we could say, "Oh he just got carried away with that" because all that he wrote was inspired and true. Brigham Young did more than just "talk about" the Adam-God doctrine, he said it was imperative to your salvation and that those that didn't believe would never reach God-hood. Have you ever read the Journel of Discourses? Many testimonies were born be prophets and apotles that Adam is God. How do you explain that? What about the fact that blacks weren't to get the priesthood until "all the Sons of Adam held it"? How can one prophet say one thing and have it be law, then years later it changes?

Brigham Young was priveledged to see the pre-mortal life of Adam and Why he was priveledged to be the first earth father.

Brigham got carried away, but he was amazed at what a great soul Adam was, is and will be in the afterlife.

The vision Brigham saw is true, but he isn't really our God as he put it. He got carried away with it, because Adam truly was a great human.

The church doesn't deny he had the vision, it does deny that we worship adam like that.

Many people like probably this guy here have spent their lives being lied to or told sugar-coated half-truths and twisted versions of what LDS doctrine really is. In my expirence no 2 Mormons are alike when it comes to excuses. Some say polygamy was just for a select few, for some it was because brave men were taking in widows whos husbands were killed by savage mobs. I agree with "answers" but you should also note, the LDS church just dosen't change their beliefs. The just cover them up and hide them. Things like black people were less valiant in the pre-existance and are sub-par souls, blood atonement and polygamy are all still commandments of the church. LDS will say "we dont practise that anymore" but it is still in the books as doctrine. The polygamy section 132 is still printed in their scriptures. Most in the church dont even know this themselves!

Read the King Follett sermon Joseph Smith taught. He declared that God was an exalted man born on another plannet (History of the Church vol.6, p.408). You are misrepresenting the Church. Lying to try and make people feel better about church history just causes more problems. You need to do your homework before you make statements. Stand up for your religion, dont go and lie about it! Revelation 22:18-19 is a warning not to add or take away from the book of Revelation. It's not ruling out future prophecy or prophets. In fact Revelation predicts future prophets in Jerusalem:

Um, I think you're missing the teachings of Christ. It isn't a label or membership that gets you to heaven, I assure you there are many Mormons that are not going to make it to heaven (I don't say that as someone who thinks I as free from falling either).

Yes. I believe that those who are honest, humble, and genuinely open to all truth God has to give them will go to heaven, regardless of church or faith. I believe this means there are core tenants of the LDS faith that all will have to accept at some point, in some future day, to enter heaven. But, everyone who is humbly living truth the best they can will be given God's reward.
