lol, you got to give it to mormons, they have at least one lie to explain all their other lies. I can only imagine how many people they have working day and night to try to explain how they are a religion and not a cult.
EVERY religion goes through it's cult phase. Some, like Christianity or Buddhism or Islam, start with a charismatic leader working within the confines of an established popular doctrine within their region. i.e. Judaism and Hinduism leading to those others. Other not-so-revolutionary changes are merely a change in doctrine that, while keeping the name, soon come to add variations that become the most popular. Judaism itself for instance or the various councils of Rome.
@wellesradio ....secret temples and rituals, magic underware, baptism of the dead, spirit babies, owning a planet....sounds like a cult to me....You cultist mormons spin lies and half-truths to justify your behavior, its amazing. I seriously hope you are not implying that a trator of America, polygamist was charismatic and a leader. In the end, the con-man Joe Smith got what he deserved.....shot like a rat in jail awaiting his treason trial.
...secret temples and rituals, magic wine, resurrection of the dead, eternal spirits, owning a planet....sounds like a cult to me....You Christians spin lies and half-truths to justify your behavior, its amazing. I seriously hope you are not implying that a traitor of the Kingdom of Israel and the Roman Empire, hokey magician who believed he was God was charismatic and a leader. In the end, the con-man Joshua ben Joseph got what he deserved.....crucified like criminal scum.
Every religion is wrong simply because God doesn't exist and Jesus didn't exist.
Well the Jesus that walks on water, turns water into fine, cures the sick all that jazz, never existed. There might have been a man named Jesus making these claims but there is no physical evidence of his existence exists.
Religion is just as tool to teach people how to live good lives, it is not meant to be serious doctrine.
I know see the Mormon missionaries speak with the proverbial forked tongue. You come to our doors telling us the church had fallen away and needed to be restored. You say we need modern day prophets to tell us the correct things to do and believe. Yet when Brigham Young and Joe say things that are totally off the wall you say they were wrong. Mostly it is Brigham. Joe was killed at at young age in a tragic shooting in the jail. Yet why do we need prophets if eve Brigham is considered wrong?
@Blogrich55 Again, not that I'm defending Mormonism or anything, but aren't prophets considered human? It's the crux of their philosophies that matter. Perhaps they believe that the essence which he preached overrides his own zealous pursuits which may have tainted his judgment. The Old Testament is full of crap that Christians call a "do-over" on with the excuse that Jesus made the awkward rules irrelevant, depending on present-day norms.
I mean there are things you can prove so easily like the changes to the Doctrine and Covenants, Joseph Smith's practice of occult and folk magic, the money scandals, deception and covering up of history and documents. Do you even know the truth about magic and the seer stones? Most of the elders I've met never even knew the book of mormon was read out of a hat! You true history has been covered up by "the brethren" it is proven! Satan wants you to believe Adam was a great man, he chose satan!
Yes I have the entire J of D and I have read the multiple discourses he gave on Adam. I have also read Joseph Fielding Smith's opinions in Doctrines of Salvation and find them to be total BS. It was not an error by the person recording the revelation! If thats the case it would have to be written and heard wrong dozens of times by dozens of different scribes. If it truly was an error, they wouldn't have printed it in Millennial Star and everyother church publication at the time.
When you see someone like J.F.S. blatantly lying in an official church book, about something that was incontrovertably true, dosen't that send up a red flag. J.F.S. had to know it was officially taught and approved by the church. Testimony was given of that truth by all of the Apostles except Orson Pratt, he was God in the temple ceremony, if it was just a misunderstanding it was the largest one in history! I've never seen a typo turn into a church-wide doctrine. Do you think he lied?
You have answers for some of my questions but I notice you avoid the really hard ones. Like when we read the bible there is nothing in there that Paul wrote that we could say, "Oh he just got carried away with that" because all that he wrote was inspired and true. That is a requirement for an apostle or prophet of the Lord set by Christ himself. There cant be any "carried aways" or half truths or mistaken scribes. These are the words of God brought to man by the Holy Spirit. No mistakes possible
I'm sorry I wish I knew of the instance in question. I do not. Joseph F. Smith did allot for the church while yet in mortality. perhaps you could show me what part of what text you are concerned about?
I also read the JoD but it was a very long time ago and I don't even have my own copy. I am trying to answer your questions, but I am afraid it has been awhile.
Have you ever asked FAIR? The scholars with PhD's at FAIR are more than welcome to honest questions. Their answers are also more thought out than mine, as I'm only an amatuer apologist.
TrueSaintsLDS, I have appreciated your help in looking into these matters. I always have enjoyed a good religious debate and I hope you dont take offense to my questions. Sometimes I get a little fired up, but its not you personally I have a problem with. I thank you for your honest answers and appreciate your help. The JFS quote can be found in the Doctrines of Salvation p.96 and on. If Joseph Smith was a true prophet I would sure like to know. I have looked at fair before thank you.
Brigham Young did more than just "talk about" the Adam-God doctrine, he said it was imperative to your salvation and that those that didn't believe would never reach God-hood. Have you ever read the Journel of Discourses? Many testimonies were born be prophets and apotles that Adam is God. How do you explain that? What about the fact that blacks weren't to get the priesthood until "all the Sons of Adam held it"? How can one prophet say one thing and have it be law, then years later it changes?
Read Matthew 7:13-25...You say your church is true because of your fruits but even Satan can render wonderous works like your church. The Bible states if even one lie is told in Christ's name, it is not of him.
I know you arent, but you try to convince other Christians you are just like them. Im not here to change your beliefs, I just want you to be proud of your history and stand up for the true doctrines of your church. I realize it isn't popular for you to admit you believe in becoming a polygamus god or that Jesus had three wives, but that is what your prophets taught. I think Joseph and Brigham would be embarrased by their church today, fighting to deny their teachings and cover them up...
Many people like probably this guy here have spent their lives being lied to or told sugar-coated half-truths and twisted versions of what LDS doctrine really is. In my expirence no 2 Mormons are alike when it comes to excuses. Some say polygamy was just for a select few, for some it was because brave men were taking in widows whos husbands were killed by savage mobs. Some have no idea blacks were ever thought of as curesed, they just think they were denied the priesthood. Deception is a tool.
Deception is a tool. Deception is what Anti-mormons use. The LDS are forthright and honest in dealings with people.
The racism was abound in those days, and the church was against slavery and PRO equal rights. the Missourians wanted to be a PRO slavery state, and it didn't want LDS to out vote them so it began persecuting them.
If blacks were allowed back then, the bloodshed would have bee worse. think about it. The Lord has his reasons.
I agree with "answers" but you should also note, the LDS church just dosen't change their beliefs. The just cover them up and hide them. Things like black people were less valiant in the pre-existance and are sub-par souls, blood atonement and polygamy are all still commandments of the church. LDS will say "we dont practise that anymore" but it is still in the books as doctrine. The polygamy section 132 is still printed in their scriptures. Most in the church dont even know this themselves!
It's funny how you keep saying that "it is not LDS Doctrine" and "the LDS church has dismissed this", when a grand majority of these things were said by LDS prophets.
Saying "we don't believe this anymore" is not justification, but rather proves that the LDS church needs to always change core belief due to the religions instability.
it is quite useful to have a living prophet in order to sweep up the footprints made by former prophets in the past
Preaching in 1859, at the October Conference of the LDS Church, Brigham Young declared:
Cain slew his brother . . . and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin. . . they never can hold the Priesthood or share in it until all the other descendants of Adam have received the promises. ... They were the first that were cursed, and they will be the last from whom the curse will be removed (Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, pp. 290-291;
In his famous "King Follett Discourse" Joseph Smith taught,
"God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens. That is the great secret... [Y]ou have got to learn how to be Gods yourselves, and to be kings and priests to God, the same as all Gods have done before you..."
Regarding the first point, it was said by Joseph Smith. But hey, we all know that he was only a prophet of the LDS church and what he says doesn't always go...
Just face it dude, Mormon is a false religion created in the 1800's by a con-artist named Joseph Smith....IT'S A COMPLETE FALSE RELIGION, You can try to comment all you want on the video...Smith made everything up, ONE guy realized this...Wow...don't believe it for a second!!
I just want to give my opinion. It is meant with no malace. Mormons and Christians are NOT THE SAME. in this video you said that Christian creeds are wrong and yet you claim to be a Christian. Believing that Jesus changes lives does not make you a Christian. Satan himself understands Jesus' power. by adding to the Bible, Mormons have classified themselves as a cult. Christianity is a religion. Mormons cannot be both in a cult and a religion. I am very sorry that you are so misinformed.
Read the King Follett sermon Joseph Smith taught. He declared that God was an exalted man born on another plannet (History of the Church vol.6, p.408). You are misrepresenting the Church. Lying to try and make people feel better about church history just causes more problems. You need to do your homework before you make statements. Stand up for your religion, dont go and lie about it! You are an embarrassment! Henry B. Eyring just decared God an "exalted, glorified man" in a 2006 talk.
So you do believe that God was an exalted man? I agree with that conclusion. Christ said, "He who hath seen me hath seen the Father". That leads me to believe that the Father has a body of flesh and bones and once lived on an earth. I was not so much bashing the Mormon faith, just the attempts of some who would like to make the church seem like any other Protestant religion.
Good point, vcomp1960. Just read The Book of Mormon for yourself. All of the racism and insanity is there, clear as day. And fellows like believingldsmormon work very hard to bend the words of that book so that they don't sound as bad or as embarrassing as they really do.
In the wilderness the Israelites made a golden calf and called it jehovah. Unfortunately, the false jehovah was nothing like the real Jehovah and those that worshiped the false jehovah were condemned. The LDS heavenly father and jesus has as much in common with the real Jesus and the real Heavenly Father as the golden-calf jehovah had to do with the real Jehovah . . . which is to say that they are nothing alike even though called by the same names.
J. Smith may have thought he was visited by an angel but he was not. 2 Corinthian 11:14"For even the Devil can appear as a angel of light"
Revelation 22: 18-19
"I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. "
Angels appeared to Joseph & Mary, Peter & other biblical men & women. Why can't they visit Joseph Smith? Mormons believe the Angel Moroni that visited Joseph Smith is the angel of Revelation 14:6
"And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people," Revelation 14:6
ahay321 the only one who visited joseph smith was satan himself, those two got together to use Jesus Christ name on the mormons so called church just to try and fool Gods children, you say well angels visited Joseph and Mary why not joseph smith, WHAT are you NUTS!!! Uh hello Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ and Joseph was her husband, smith has NOTHING to do with that talk about blasphemy
Revelation 22:18-19 is a warning not to add or take away from the book of Revelation. It's not ruling out future prophecy or prophets. In fact Revelation predicts future prophets in Jerusalem:
"And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth." Revelation 11:3 (See Revelation 3-12).
Dr. Hugh Nibley commenting on our research (Nov 7, 2003), "...After this, those who challenge the Book of Mormon will have some heavy explaining to do."
After all these years the book of mormon has yet to have even one of its claims supported by any evidence whatsoever! Not one fricken claim. I'd say that is evidence of another kind, that the mormon religion is empty and the book of mormon is not worth the paper it's printed on.
probably the most accurate thing you can say is "Its not banned by the church, it was never part of the church". Otherwise, it's pretty accurate. The tone of voice and music provide a certain atmosphere.
it truly saddens me that people believe this and defend it so whole-heartedly. it is pointless to condemn or convert mormons. for the most part they've made up their minds and no logical or rational argument will dissuade them from their beliefs.
"It is the first principle of the Gospel to know for a certainty the character of God and to know... that he was once a man like us..."
GORDON B. HINCKLEY:
[Q. Was God once a man?] "I don't know. ... I wouldn't say that... I don't know that we teach it... We don't know very much about [that]... I don't know a lot about it"
A false prophet teaches that there is no Christ. That there is no need for a Christ. A false prophet proclaims it is easy to enter heaven.. eat, drink and be merry... and say the words.. Jesus.. Save Me! and it is done! That is a False Prophet.
Narrow is the Gate.. and straight is the path.
21 ¶ Not every one that saith• unto me, Lord•, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth• the will• of my Father which is in heaven.
Did God change your life, or was it the church, the congregation, and yourself? After all, in order for your life to change, you and those around you must have made decisions which led to these changes, and if you believe in the Bible, then everyone involved did what they did because of their free will.
the thing about Jesus been married is a legend from France as the Merovingian kings calmed decent, and they claim a holy blood line as a right to roul......
you are a dumb ass.... go read some more about the history of the church and what was really said... dont try and defend it with lessons you learned in sunday school bud... and if Brigam Young was a true prophet how could he teach the saints wrong doctrine that was false??? uh oh
Here's the problem: You keep apologetically stating that various statements, despite not being church doctrine, were made by one of your religion's founding fathers and/or historical leaders. You want us to buy, "just cuz our leaders say it doesn't mean our religion's about that."
There's nothing in the bible about wearing condoms either, but the Pope says they're sinful, and therefore you don't wear them if your Catholic. It's ridiculous, but not misunderstood.
Ya know, this is bulletproof, nicely said and accurately established logic. My only corrolary would be to change the "our leaders" excuse to "our prophets" and then ask for final explanation as to how a prophet can be wrong.
My friend, I think that satire and humor are very good weapons in the fight against 'spiritual wickedness in high places'
Now I don't want to elevate myself to the level of Jesus, but He had a sense of humor, recall when He spoke of the beam or plank being in the judgmental person's eye, I believe that hyperbole was ment to be humorous, I could be wrong. Anyway, I think my funny comment shows that you cant hide from your past.
Um, I think you're missing the teachings of Christ. It isn't a label or membership that gets you to heaven, I assure you there are many Mormons that are not going to make it to heaven (I don't say that as someone who thinks I as free from falling either).
The right answer is that the person who goes to heaven will be the person who accepts all the God has to give Him/Her in the way of truth and light.
Yes. I believe that those who are honest, humble, and genuinely open to all truth God has to give them will go to heaven, regardless of church or faith. I believe this means there are core tenants of the LDS faith that all will have to accept at some point, in some future day, to enter heaven. But, everyone who is humbly living truth the best they can will be given God's reward.
What I posted was out of humor and not to make fun out of someones beliefs. I personally dont give a fuck what people practice. Its just that Mormons are easy game. Its all in good fun. Like I told my Gay friend "if you can take a dick you can take a joke."
No,according to Mormonism, the person who gets to heaven is the person who knows the secret handshakes,is married in the temple, pays 10% of his/her income, wears magic underwear, never criticizes the leaders, doesn't associate with apostates, holds a calling, promises in the temple to devote all of his/her time and talents to the church (pre '90's, temple promises were accompanied by a promise to slit ones own throat and be disemboweled, if ever revealed) and accept arbitrary rules.
I would rather slit my throat and disembowel myself rather than outright disobey a commandment of God and end up in Hell! Wouldn't you?
Mark 8: 35 35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose• his life• for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
What? You don't believe in going to Hell? Are you not afraid of Hell?
It's made by angry people who aren't interested in seriously debating the church. There are plenty of points that could be seriously and rationally arguing for and against the church and its doctrine, this is just weak, spineless fear mongering and misrepresentation.

Brigham Young was priveledged to see the pre-mortal life of Adam and Why he was priveledged to be the first earth father.
Brigham got carried away, but he was amazed at what a great soul Adam was, is and will be in the afterlife.
The vision Brigham saw is true, but he isn't really our God as he put it. He got carried away with it, because Adam truly was a great human.
The church doesn't deny he had the vision, it does deny that we worship adam like that.

So I guess I can see how non members can misconstrue what Brigham said.

You got something you wanna ask me?
TrueSaintsLDS 2 years ago
So you do believe that God was an exalted man? I agree with that conclusion. Christ said, "He who hath seen me hath seen the Father". That leads me to believe that the Father has a body of flesh and bones and once lived on an earth. I was not so much bashing the Mormon faith, just the attempts of some who would like to make the church seem like any other Protestant religion.

Good point, vcomp1960. Just read The Book of Mormon for yourself. All of the racism and insanity is there, clear as day. And fellows like believingldsmormon work very hard to bend the words of that book so that they don't sound as bad or as embarrassing as they really do.
tsharpfilm 2 years ago
The book of mormon is racist. Read it! In Nephi there is a statement that the native Americans were turned dark because they were evil! Incredible!

your church is a church of lies. joseph smith was nothing more then a crazy con man giving easy answers to people who had weak minds.

Do mormons also read and teach the Bible as well as the Book of Mormon? this question is sencere

Mormons read & teach from the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants & Pearl of Great price. They are the canonized scriptures.

yerabiggerjokefool 3 years ago
Angels appeared to Joseph & Mary, Peter & other biblical men & women. Why can't they visit Joseph Smith? Mormons believe the Angel Moroni that visited Joseph Smith is the angel of Revelation 14:6
"And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people," Revelation 14:6
ahay321 3 years ago
ahay321 the only one who visited joseph smith was satan himself, those two got together to use Jesus Christ name on the mormons so called church just to try and fool Gods children, you say well angels visited Joseph and Mary why not joseph smith, WHAT are you NUTS!!! Uh hello Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ and Joseph was her husband, smith has NOTHING to do with that talk about blasphemy
yerabiggerjokefool 3 years ago
Revelation 22:18-19 is a warning not to add or take away from the book of Revelation. It's not ruling out future prophecy or prophets. In fact Revelation predicts future prophets in Jerusalem:
"And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth." Revelation 11:3 (See Revelation 3-12).
ahay321 3 years ago
It could also mean not to add or take away from the whole Bible, depending on who you ask.

The tone of voice and music provide a certain atmosphere.

i'm a witness that you are a moron.
it truly saddens me that people believe this and defend it so whole-heartedly. it is pointless to condemn or convert mormons. for the most part they've made up their minds and no logical or rational argument will dissuade them from their beliefs.
sad... so very sad...

THE PROPHETS SPEAK:
JOSEPH SMITH, JR.:

Joseph smith never claimed descent of Christ.

you are a dumb ass.... go read some more about the history of the church and what was really said... dont try and defend it with lessons you learned in sunday school bud... and if Brigam Young was a true prophet how could he teach the saints wrong doctrine that was false??? uh oh
VISLDR89 3 years ago
yeah exactly. I don't think Mormons have any concept of the term "false prophet."
Derouin91 3 years ago
Here's the problem: You keep apologetically stating that various statements, despite not being church doctrine, were made by one of your religion's founding fathers and/or historical leaders. You want us to buy, "just cuz our leaders say it doesn't mean our religion's about that."
There's nothing in the bible about wearing condoms either, but the Pope says they're sinful, and therefore you don't wear them if your Catholic. It's ridiculous, but not misunderstood.
weeksie21 3 years ago

If Mormans are Christians, what about evangelical Christians? Do both go to heaven?
omahadivision 3 years ago
Um, I think you're missing the teachings of Christ. It isn't a label or membership that gets you to heaven, I assure you there are many Mormons that are not going to make it to heaven (I don't say that as someone who thinks I as free from falling either).
The right answer is that the person who goes to heaven will be the person who accepts all the God has to give Him/Her in the way of truth and light.
Thanks - Steve
believingldsmormon 3 years ago
So it's a heart issue, and you could go to heaven in either church group, if your heart is right with God?
omahadivision 3 years ago
Thanks - Steve

What I posted was out of humor and not to make fun out of someones beliefs. I personally dont give a fuck what people practice. Its just that Mormons are easy game. Its all in good fun. Like I told my Gay friend "if you can take a dick you can take a joke."
jmarron2525 3 years ago
No,according to Mormonism, the person who gets to heaven is the person who knows the secret handshakes,is married in the temple, pays 10% of his/her income, wears magic underwear, never criticizes the leaders, doesn't associate with apostates, holds a calling, promises in the temple to devote all of his/her time and talents to the church (pre '90's, temple promises were accompanied by a promise to slit ones own throat and be disemboweled, if ever revealed) and accept arbitrary rules.
Don't lie.
defendtruth 3 years ago
That sounds like Christ saying.. Keep My Commandments!
John 14:15
15 ¶ If ye love• me, keep• my commandments•.
MrNirom 3 years ago
It's made by angry people who aren't interested in seriously debating the church. There are plenty of points that could be seriously and rationally arguing for and against the church and its doctrine, this is just weak, spineless fear mongering and misrepresentation.
