The opening is actually posted on Youtube ( found a link on another site). It is infectious, and i'd love to have it on my IPod. It was done by Ron Dante (of the Archies). You should be able to find it on Youtube by doing a seach for Sweepstakes_Theme.Mov For some reason that's how it's listed. On another subject, does anyone remember a TV series called "Hagan" starring Chad Everett. It had one of the best TV themes ever, with steel guitars twanging
This was the promo for the first episode of the series {January 29, 1979}- and look at the guest cast: Katherine ("SOAP") Helmond, Erin ("HAPPY DAYS") Moran, Adam Arkin, Abe ('BARNEY MILLER"/"FISH") Vigoda, Paul ("THE JEFFERSONS") Benedict, and [not shown] BIll Daily, Greg Mullavey and Priscilla Barnes! Even Edd Byrnes wasn't happy with the way it turned out...Bob Kaliban is the promo announcer.
Glad I'm not the only one who remembered this show. I think I saw it once, but I remembered the same lyrics lee53050 did. It's been bothering me for years that I couldn't find the show or song.
Ed is right--it was Ron Dante. I was able to download Ron Dante's song by searching under tv theme and $weepstake$, but it was from one of those TV theme sites, some of which are bug-filled, so I'm not going to recommend it.
I was an extra on this show. The audience part was filmed in one day at the Lakewood movie theatre in Tacoma WA. ("I" am the guy in the red shirt with a browm jacket). We got $20 and chicken-in-a-box. Even though I was probably in most of the shows, I disliked it enough to only watch 2 of them.
Sweepstakes was not a game show. It was an hour long weekly comedy-drama with stories about lottery ticket grand prize finalists. The host for the lottery segment was Edd Byrnes. Other than that, your program description is accurate.
I really think NBC trying to ditch the Peacock for that blah, boring "N" was pretty stupid. I'm glad 'The Bird' got reinstated..although much changed from the original Peacocks.
"Hello, Larry" (which was a spin-off of "Diff'rent Strokes") did get a second season, though, but that was it for that show. The trapezoid "N" logo looks great in chrome!

If I remember correctly, Ron Dante sang the them for the program, "Without A Dream."
I remember watching the first episode because I was 12 or 13 and suffering from a migraine, which has plagued me for the rest of my life.
Anyway, I heard the song and it kind of lifted my spirts and I felt better.

Yes you are correct. I recordered the theme off of the tv and wish I could find it.
I think that it went something like: "Without a dream inside of you,
there's no dream to have come true.
Don't be afraid to dream, don't be afraid to dream..."

Ah yes, three new NBC shows from the 78-79 season, which never made it to 79 fall season. Way to go Fred Sliverman! (NBC president 1978-1981)
