  • I looove the book.

    It brings nice memories.

I visited Charing Cross Rd when I visited London looking for this bookstore :-)

  • one of teh best... intollerance stupidity of humanity

  • I have seen the movie and read the book. Rarely have I seen a movie which maintains the integrity of the original book to the end, but this movie manages to succeed in that wonderfully. I am British, but I fully understand Helene Hanffs feelings about London. Yes, this is truly one of Americas literary masterpieces. Makes me proud to be British and enhances the love of Americans I've always had.

  • looks good

  • This trailer definitely does not do the movie justice. I loved this movie when I first saw it in high school and I love it still.

  • an interesting film: on the 1st sight, it's a touching story of a woman who feels for a man she never met, on the 2nd sight it's a story of a man who gets more and more uncomfortable while the woman shows her unselfishness; what does she expect from him? maybe he did not die, but slightly disappeared just to avoid that strange person. what is right?

  • This is one of my favorite movies ever! I think Helene Hanff sounds like she was a very interesting and intelligent person. RIP to her.

  • To me, as a former New Yorker, this is one gem of a story. Like many from the Big City, we are largely motivated in life by our dreams. Despite all the obstacles that life may impose on us, we go forward and press on. After all, the NY motto is ''excelsior'' which means 'forward'. And that's what Miss Hanff did. If you want to know what a real New Yorker is all about, she's the person you want to know.

  • Oh, no! I think I punched the "downer" on your remark~~I meant to push "thumbs up". I'm so sorry, b/c I loved your comment and wish with all my heart I had met Helene Hanff. So.......please excuse my clumsiness!

  • Ah! Tis the Season to be Jolly, so it's OK.

I, too, wish I could have met Miss Hanff. She appears to have been a most interesting person.

  • so r u, leave it for the rest of us with a brain

  • Not our fault if you have a short attention span. Why waste time with meaningless comments?

  • I have read all of Helene Hanff's books; how I wish I'd gotten to meet her! Thank you for this trailer. Very nice.

    John Donne

  • "...And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee."

    John Donne

  • ..."all mankind is of one author and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated. God employs several translators; some pieces are translated by age, some by sickness, some by war, some by justice; but God's hand is in every translation, and his hand shall bind up all our scattered leaves again for that library where every book shall lie open to one another."

  • Definitely a must-see for anyone who likes deep movies.

  • If anyone can tell me which Donne sermon she reads a short sentence from in this movie that is so moving, pretty please let me know!!!

  • Meditation XVII

    from Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions

    Nunc lento sonitu dicunt, morieris.

Now this bell tolling softly for another, says to me, Thou must die.

  • "A true story, based on a best seller..." Brilliant.

I walked past it last week on my way to see the Dandy Warhols....

    Why a Pizza Hut!!!!!!

  • lol

  • I LOVE this movie, the characters, and most of all, the incredible actors!

    Lovely story!

  • All of you that read the book and didnt see the movie - or vice versa:

Get it whatever takes!!! Not hard actually these days. And cheap...

The movie is so beautiful, you should not rest until you see it - or read it.

You know? This is the sort of case where the ones who see the movie starves for the book- and vice versa.

  • I recently found both in the same week...the movie for $8 at Shopko, and the book for $6.50 at UW Madison bookstore. I am on a quest now to secure more copies to share as I found them both to be so completely uplifting. At least all my online friends should share in my great joy. Amazing...something came along to take my mind off of my dear Jane Austens.

  • Ohh, nice coincience! just lovely, yes.

Its like a sort of club- it kind of resounds with the Helene Hanff story itself...

  • There is a sequal "The Duchess of Bloomsbury" in which she finally travels to England after the first book was published. It's also as charming,

  • I agree they are both great!

  • @danielrep Actually, I personally prefferred the movie over the book - rare for me, but it happens.

  • I love the book and so the movie too. Thanks!!! for the post

  • i would definitely love this movie if ever i see it... i want to see it..

  • i love the books.never seen the film.

  • I loved this film so much, I think I have seen it 5 or 6 times. I managed to find all her books as well, and have read them at least 3 times.

  • I've just watched this and immediately ordered the book !!

  • I hope you like the book. For some reason, the premise is very dear to me. I have the movie if you'd like to borrow it. :-)

  • Tks a lot!!! I'm really glad for this!!! :)

  • I wanna watch this movie

  • The best Film .A great movie for sure!!

  • One of the all time great movies that have and can change the way I/we view the world .

  • And the little book (84, Charing Cross Road by Helen Hanff) is even better. But no wonder the film is great with such actors. Brilliant!

  • The Duchess of Bloomsbury by Hanff is one of her best for someone anglophile like me! I love this film very much! It's very bookish, arty and Bohemian type of film! Pity they don't make that sort of films anymore! I love the music from that film too!! God knows how many times I watch this film on my own, and with my friends, one gets never tired of it!!

  • superb film!!!

I have at home and don't get tired of watching once and again-

    great loss-
