I have had a Les Paul since 1973 and it is a good one!!
However I now own 2 of these Albert Lee guitars and for me they are so much better than the Les Paul
The feel, tone finish of the AL is much better than ANY Gibson I have played, knowing a guitar tech I can tell you I've played loads of Gibbies!! Gibson still has a place in history but they do tend to have relied on past glories. Gotta say the new Gibby BFG looks interesting! Long live the AL!!
"silly to judge the sound of the pickups this way"? Compression doesn't change the tone just the dynamics. He is saying that your guitar sounds 'thin and spikey' compared to the single bridge P-90 pickup on a Les Paul Junior. Also Gibson owners don't get offended by ignorance.
Have to agree on that Gibson comment- I've wanted one for years, but I can't find a Gibbo that is worth spending the money on. The fingerboards are utter dogshit- they are rougher than a bears arse and drier than a nuns.... ahem.
Anyone ever thought how cool a glued neck Musicman would be?
I meant just a straight ahead glued neck- but yeah, a through neck would be brilliant- arent enough on the market. When I'm a big rockstar I'll get them to make me one... lol
"The fingerboards are utter dogshit- they are rougher than a bears arse and drier than a nuns". Step away from the crack pipe. If a fretboard is dry it needs Lemonoil. Saying that Gibson's have dry fretboard is just rediculous. The attitude of EBMM fans omfg what a pack of assclowns.
Ok- I went looking at Gibsons again at the weekend. I looked in 2 large shops and I would say 95% of the Gibsons had poor fingerboards considering the price. I could live with it on a cheap guitar not a £1000 plus guitar. Its funny that the epiphones I looked at had much better fingerboards and fret jobs than the Gibbos. Ive still not found my Gibson! Oh, and thanks for the insults- really, they made me smile.
I may be an "arse clown" :) and a crack smoker but I love my Balls...
I noticed you are using the rear pickup. If you want to use just the rear P90 then a Les Paul Junior sounds twice as good as that thin spikey noise box.
I Totally agree with you. I used to own a Les Paul Junior and now I own an Axis MM90. The Gibson tone was far superior. The Musicman is 'thin and spikey' for sure. The hype on these Musicman's is rediculous. Gibson's are much better instruments and only people's irational bias against makes them think otherwise. I can't wait to offload my Axis Super Sport.
U putting it on Ebay? Quick sale? As u think its rubbish, I'll give u £300 ($600) ;)
Look- dont get me wrong- I would love a good Les Paul- or preferably a 335- but I cannot find one that is worth the money. I tried 3 big stores here in the UK and I could not find one with a nice fingerboard or a high quality finish.
And all my guitar heroes are gibbo players- & I don't have a bias against them. Now if Gibson want to give me an endorsment with their Custom shop models I wont say no...
Well if you are using the MM90's for gain you are missing their tonal potential, they are single coils, so the tone of them clean is much better, check out my other videos where i played them clean, much more what I prefer. And as ive already said, I dont care for the distorted tone anyway. I used to own your exact Blue Super Sport too, I sold it to the guy you bought it from! Try doing some country or jazzy blues stuff, it sounds much better. Its not a metal axe. Most players cant play clean.
Yep, while you can get away with a passable distorted tone, clean is where the MM90's really shine.BTW I'm the guy that bought the sold BluPup8 his Axis MM! Small world hey?
Agree, they sound amazing clean, or with a touch of overdrive, really classy tones. You just have to know how to handle them, they arent humbuckers by any strech of the imagination.
Lemon oil does not solve the rough, dried fretboard problem. A few coats of oil then some rubbing with fine abrasives will solve it- but why shouldnt the guitar be like this in the first place? Its a premium priced guitar after all... I worked in a music shop when i was a student and we used to have loads of gibsons in for setups, fret dresses (chatter marks and filing marks all over the frets) & intonation. I somehow feel they rely on their name instead of good quality to sell their goods.
Nice tones. It really cuts.

Needless to say, I'm very jealous that you can afford this guitar...

Its not that expensive! Only cost me $700 US.

Really? Please tell me where you bought this guitar. If it's in Australia, can they mail it internationally?
