The person who twisted the call was Sgt. Crowley himself. Whaler's description said one possibly Hispanic the other unknown with luggage on the porch.

Crowley wrote in his report that she said she witnessed 2 black men with backpacks. ???

I have seen a lot on this and it absolutely disgusts me that this officer, who is supposed to be the one specializing in racial profiling in their department abused his power the way he did and harassed an older black man for no fucking reason. She did her citizen's duty and reported to the 911 operator that she thought one man was Hispanic and did not get a good look at the other man at all. She also said that they might live there and be locked out and mentioned that she saw luggage. (Gates just arrived home from China.)

This is eerily similar to Sonia Sotomayor's handling of the case in which firefighters alleged racial bias after being denied promotions. Of course, Sotomayor dismissed that case! I would agree. I've had to call the police before about a neighbor's house because there was an unusually loud noise from a typically quiet neighbor or someone suspicious or unknown doing something at or around the house that could be dangerous to the occupants or owners.

One such occassion, i heard a very loud thud from a neighbor's house late and called the police, telling them i was concerned because my neighbor was very quiet. Turned out he'd fallen and injured himself and was elderly.
