  • If I could hit the "like" button, I would! I love this song. What a reminder to be appreciative of the great thinkers and theologians who came before us and began the Reformation, and what a reminder to be grateful to God for blessing us with them!

  • Ok -- I'm a little confused...you said that you later learned reformed theology, but you were already reformed and didn't know it.

If reformed theology is the true Gospel, must one be 'reformed' to be saved?

  • @kellermaverick - No, one must not be Reformed to be saved. The theology I learned as I grew as a Christian is the Reformed Gospel. I later realized it was Reformed. I never checked into what Reformed theology was as a Christian. I made the mistake, it's my fault, for taking everyone's word for it that Reformed theology was bad. BUT, when I did learn what it was, I realized it was basically what I believed, what I'd learned as a Christian. So instead of being a Baptist, I'm now a Reformed one.

  • @kellermaverick - Reformed theology teaches the correct theology more than say, the Pentacostal theology, or Nazarene, etc. It's the closest theology to what I have learned through Bible study to be the Gospel. I do still believe in the Rapture though. The two preachers who have taught what I think is correct are Spurgeon and John MacArthur. I am not always right, and neither are they. But the basics of what Reformed theology is what I feel is the correct one. It lines up most with Scripture.

  • If reformed theology (Calvinism) is "the true Gospel of Jesus Christ," what gospel did you believe when you were saved?

  • @kellermaverick -The true gospel of Jesus Christ. :) I was a Calvinist and didn't even know it. I was a Baptist and was told Calvinism was bad most of my life. Wasn't told why it was bad, just that it was. I had some friends who were Calvinists and we would talk about the Bible and I realized most of what they believed was how I believed. It's funny, looking back on it all now, that while thinking Calvinism was wrong, I discovered I was one!

  • I'm curious...do you feel you were saved before you were Reformed, or after?

  • @kellermaverick - Before, many years before.

  • So, to sum it up -- what you are saying is...the Bible brought you to Christ, but man brought you to Calvinism.

The Calvinist always gets the last word. Anything stated after that is a new argument.

  • @kellermaverick - The witness of my Mother taught me about Christ, but it was Christ Who drew me to Him, and then I read the Bible and began to study it myself and He revealed Himself more to me each day. I later learned Reformed theology and to me it is the most accurate theology, the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. And that is all I have to say about it. Not an argument, just the truth.

  • Indeed -- you seem to have a great deal of love for JC -- John Calvin. I'm sure the scholars you reference are part of the "reform movement."

And certainly Calvin's reputation, however recorded, has little to do with the fact that my God of Love would not create a human with the intent of sending him away from his Kingdom for eternity. That just doesn't make sense.

Of course, from a "reform movement" perspective, my comments must be "predestined."

  • @kellermaverick - And your information is created by non-Calvinists. They deny history for their own agenda, therefore they, and you, deny the truth. You're not going to change my mind or make me see things your way. Actually, I used to not be Reformed. I know all your arguments. You're wasting your breath.

  • @kellermaverick - Of course I have a great deal of love for John Calvin. To have the love of Christ for my fellow brother who has gone on to be with our Lord is not a sin. I love Jesus Christ more than I love anyone else EVER and if you don't believe that, well...that's up to you. God knows my heart and that's enough for me. I am His, as He predestined me to be. :)

  • A history lesson -- from a good friend:

In a 1561 letter to the Marquis de Poet, high chamberlain to the King of Navarre, Calvin wrote....

"Do not fail to rid the country of those zealous scoundrels who stir the people to revolt against us. Such monsters should be exterminated, as I have exterminated Michael Servetus the Spaniard."

  • @kellermaverick - Good try. But this letter is proven to be a forgery. The lengths you people will go to. It's amazing! LOL!!!

  • @kellermaverick - "The fact that the quote is dismissed by most scholarship as being inauthentic, the over-reaching and biased claims of Voltaire, and the obvious historical errors all point to this not being an authentic Calvin letter or quote. Which further vindicates Calvin from being the tyrant he is often accused."

    Continued

  • @kellermaverick - "But the telling issues is that there are historical errors that Calvin most likely would not have made, that a later forger would have. One of the glaring errors is that the letter is addressed to "Monseigneur du Poet, Grand Chamberlain of Navarre and Governor of the town of Montelimart", whom did not have this title until 1584."

    Continued

  • @kellermaverick - "Another mistake is that the letter refers to an event, the Colloquy of Poissy, which was a conference intended to reconcile Catholic and Reformed views. This event was not concluded until October of that year, which is after the date of Calvin's writings. Calvin would not be asking results of a conference that has not yet concluded."

Seems you're the one who needed the history lesson.

  • @kellermaverick - I know I said I would no longer answer your posts, but I will NOT allow you to slander a man of God without defending him.

  • And through His Grace and Mercy, as defined by the reform movement, he has predestined the others to spend their eternity away from Him, in eternal damnation.

I don't believe that a God who is Love, no matter how sovereign, forces that upon anyone. I choose to believe in God's word, not Jean Cauvin.

  • He may not have put him to death, however he *did* have him arrested and his secretary created the list of accusations.

And when you live in a home owned by the city council (with servants) you might have a bit of influence on those who do make these decisions...(see Dick Cheney, Halliburton)

  • @kellermaverick - Oh, good grief. You're really reaching. LOL! I am definitely done with this conversation.

  • Interesting that you should use the verses from Galatians, when these reformed twists seem to be that of which Paul speaks in the preceding verses:

"I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ."

PS: If it weren't Tyndale, it would have been someone else.

  • Not as much "go against" as "go away from". The poor souls, such as Michael Servetus, who chose to go against Calvin met with a far worse fate.

As far as "proper translations" go -- the Bible reads in plain language verses like John 3:16 or 3:36. Reformist "teachers" twist those texts to imply that God has set aside a portion of his children to have no hope for eternal salvation because he has predestined them to the lake of fire. That is where I struggle with the reform movement.

  • @kellermaverick - I was wondering how long it would be before you brought up Servetus. I see where this is going. Calvin DID NOT put Servetus to death. He was NOT a citizen of Geneva and therefore did NOT have the authority to execute anyone! Learn your history! Sheesh! I'm done with this. And Tyndale did a great job and your mockery will come back on you, I fear. No matter. You're done here.

  • @kellermaverick - God predestined everything. From eternity past, before there was even man on earth, He KNEW us. What you have a problem with is God's sovereignty. His absolute right to do with any of us as He pleases. He did NOT have to send Jesus to die for any of us. But through His grace and mercy He did. And those who are saved are His elect. The ones He PREDESTINED to be His. That is the miracle, the grace of God. That He did save some of us when in fact none of us deserve it.

  • @kellermaverick - You are NOT blocked. This is pointless and I am not going to argue about it. You have your opinion, I have mine and we are both entitled to it. Doesn't mean a thing. It's all been said before and I am not playing anymore. I take God and His Word seriously. Maybe someday you will too. He is sovereign over ALL of His creation and He does NOT need our help in saving us. It is HIS WILL not ours.

  • @KarensFaith - Jesus, to the Pharisees, replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.” And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! Mark 7:6-9

  • @kellermaverick - You're going to believe what you want to believe, no matter what I say. Okay, that's fine. You don't like the Reformed faith. You don't like Calvin or Luther, or any of the other Reformers. Does this include Tyndale? He was a Reformer and he translated the Bible into English and died because of it! Thank God he translated it! He gave the common man the Word of God. And other Reformers taught it faithfully and correctly. It has nothing to do with tradition.

  • @KarensFaith - This video is all about the "reform movement". The verses you quote are commonly quoted by Calvinists or others who support this movement.

By "divine guidance," I meant translation by someone that deems themselves especially qualified to "translate the true meaning." If you celebrate these men, should you not also celebrate John Wesley or Joseph Smith for their achievements?

The Gospel is the Truth; the Truth is the Gospel. Both are of God. No additional manual required.

  • @kellermaverick - Yes, it is about the Reformation. A period in time when Luther and Calvin saw the heresy of the RC church and came out of it and taught the proper translation of the Bible to the common man. Something that was not allowed by the RCC. And they were especially qualified to do so. And so are Calvinists today who are Bible teachers, preachers and scholars.

    Continued

  • @kellermaverick - The common man can know the Word of God and can teach it. It is up to the individual to seek it out in God's Word to assure that it has been taught correctly by praying and studying it on his own as well. We are to hold EVERYTHING up to the Word of God to make sure it is not false. That is what the Reformers did and that is the reason they left the RCC and its heretical teachings.

    Continued

  • @kellermaverick - I do not celebrate any man, only honor them. I don't hold them above the Lord Jesus. I never have and never will. This video was made to show the courage that God gave these men to go against the powerful RCC. They should be respected for what they have done.

    Continued

  • @kellermaverick - And the reason why Wesley isn't among these Godly men in my videos is because he did not teach what I believe to be the correct doctrine as Calvin did. Joseph Smith was just another heretical teacher who preached another Gospel and therefore should not be honored in any way because the Bible says he should be accursed!

    Continued

  • @kellermaverick - "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!" Galatians 1:8-9

  • Why do you celebrate the writings of man? The Gospel existed prior to the birth of Luther, or Calvin, or Dr. White. I am certainly not Roman Catholic, but both your movement and the RC church are misguided. The Gospel is the truth, for everyone, and requires no divine guidance to understand if you spend enough time with it.

  • @kellermaverick - I do not celebrate the writings of man and neither am I involved in any sort of movement, RC or otherwise. I am a Christian. My particular "denomination" is Reformed Baptist because I believe the Reformers taught the Word of God the CORRECT way, and didn't deviate from it like so many others have. The Gospel is Truth, but it does need to be taught to those who don't know it, so that they can come to know Christ and be saved.

    Continued

  • @kellermaverick - The Bible is to be used for teaching, meaning some do have to be taught if they are unfamiliar with it.

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness" ~2 Timothy 3:16

Why did you just assume I do the things you accuse me of? Because I made a tribute to the men who brought others out of the false RC church and taught them the truths of God and His Word?

    Continued

  • @kellermaverick - I also disagree with your statement that the Gospel needs no divine guidance to understand it. It most certainly does! If God does not reveal the Truth of the Gospel to you, you will not understand it.

"For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." ~ 1 Corinthians 1:18

    Continued

  • @kellermaverick - "But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised." 1Corinthians 2:14

It is by Divine Guidance that we understand the Gospel, but we first hear of the Gospel by believing Christians who obey God and His command to preach the Gospel and to preach it correctly. Any other way is of man and that includes trying to figure it out. Without God, you won't.

  • I love this song! Heard it on DL also. Now I want the album. I didn't know there was Reformed music out there until i listened to the lyrics of this one!

  • Karen,

Absolutely wonderful video. You are to be highly commended.

I join others here in waiting for Dr. White to begin the DL. LOL.

Truth is truth whether delivered by Dr. White, or John Calvin. Our Savior has set before us His unchanging truth.

Thanks so much. You have blessed me today.

  • Great to hear this song all the way through. I keep expecting the DL to start!

  • Enjoyable video

  • Did you make these vids?

  • Yes, I did.

  • Love it! Then again, this song is stuck in my head every time Dr.O airs the Dividing Line.

  • Thanks! I love it when Dr. O plays "Run To The Battle" by Steve too!

  • God Bless U!!!!
