Too many people think Wing Chun sparring is that chi sao thing that never happens in real life... Wing Chun sparring is a total fighting concept like what you are doing in the vid, well done! :) I posted a vid of my wing chun sparring when I first started Wing Chun.
well, most of the kicks i throw here are just exploratory and too light to do anything. i'm trying to find the holes in his defenses by testing his reflexes.
for example, the first two kicks in the video have no speed or power and would do nothing if they hit. but they tell me if he drops his hands against low kicks, which he didnt do.
it depends what you're trying to do. for kicking or blocking, the back leg would be used if you want to step forward and switch lead leg as you deliver the kick. as in walking, you lift your back leg and make it your lead leg to move forward.
you can also use an advancing step where you do not alternate lead leg, but that does not work as well with kicks or leg blocks because your foot isnt off the ground as high or as long. if stability is desired, this is an advantage.
atlast, a school that isnt scared to break out of the ''if i do %90 chisao training i can take anyone in combat'' philosophy.
nono, like i keep saying what does a person learning to drive a car do to learn how to drive? he drives! he doesnt sit there with engine off contemplating gear shifting etc lol. thanks boys, anybody who applies wc in this way 4 training knows exactly whats up. full contact is even better. chi sao HAS ITS PLACE DONT GET ME WRONG, but a fight doesnt work like that.
let's just stop it here. i actually wasn't not up to offend you. sorry, but it already became mindless. On the other hand, what is your point man? typing down vocabulary without perceive the meaning of it, tse, tse, tse... I stick to it. You guys (=plural) practise sparring. Fine. But their is still 'no' Wing Chun to see. If, according to your inability to throw a hook, wanna call this Wing Chun, go ahead. I tell you it is not. Just check out youtube ;-) - honey, and please don't be in a snit...
my point, since you asked, is that there is wing chun here, only you do not see it because you associate the wing chun exercise chi sao with the totality of wing chun.
nice 1 chronocide, im starting up a wc concept based school in 2010, based on realistic application, much like your school. good 2 know not all wingchunners are bloomin robots!!!!
Well, your sparing looks proper. Anyways, but i disagree with your description. In my eyes their is simply no Wing Chun shown in the vid?! Have a good one
well if you're asking, i'd suggest you look at my partner, where you will see a neutral stance (equidistant shoulders), centerline attacks (no hooks), a rooted stance (as opposed to my bouncing), lots of sticking and non-boxing hand techniques such as sat sao, gan sao, quan sao, jum sao. if you're telling me you know what wing chun is and you still can't see anything, i'm afraid i can't help you.
okay, i dont do wing chun, but when i think of it i think of that furios handwork that takes place in really close combat. so why are you two throwing ostly kicks? (note: im not trying to be a jerk, just curious)
We're not throwing mostly kicks. I am throwing kicks because I have a kickboxing background and this is "free sparring". It was a deliberate decision to challenge my partner with movements outside the classical system he normally uses. The same goes for the boxing footwork i use.
It means all that Chi Sao work that you see WC guys do go out the window. Both you and you're opponent move around, and a fews jabs/crosses/uppercuts or low kicks wouldn't have gone astray. How many WC champions are there in MMA or kickboxing?
Chi Sao out the window? You can see us cross hands 8 seconds into this video, and many many times after that. It sounds like you're expecting chi sao to play a longer, more cinematic role in our sparring. Chi sao is an _exercise_ to cultivate contact reflexes, something you would see here, if you knew what you were looking for.
Bro, I only asked one question. Please count the number of question marks in my second comment. Let me rephrase; how many WC champions are there period?
Bro, my comment about WC champions was rhetorical i.e. WC is not an effective Martial Art - having you heard Buce Lee rant on about it??? Too many fixed positions and the like...
The purpose of MMA was to have different disciplines face off aginst each other to see what was really effective. What came to light was a combo of Western-style punching, kicks, knees, grappling and submission techniques.

one question fam no offense but y dont you guys train with out pads n gloves?
ShyningStar1 3 years ago
we train with gloves, mouthguards, shinpads, etc so that we dont injure eachother. this is training, not fighting.
chronocide 3 years ago
i understand its not fighting fam but you do have control doe no?

why use the back leg to "kick"??? if thats a kick or if its a block to block..????

I do something like this with my students, its good to work against techniques outside the system. Great job.

WC became popular because of Bruce Lee, and a lot of people are still attracted to the many fancy moves of kung fu.
Sonny2170 3 years ago
Unfortunately it when comes to freestyle sparing/ fighting, Wing Chun looks very much like kickboxing.
Sonny2170 3 years ago
Yes, I have a kickboxing background and this is free sparring. I'm not sure that I would say this was "unfortunate".

As for which totally sweet moves you would use to knock us both out, I'll leave the speculation to you.
(Lastly, you don't see WC in MMA because the first M means "mixed" and WC doesn't cover enough of the necessary toolset on it's own.)
In the future, try to ask one question per comment so this doesn't become too hard to follow.

And you really shouldn't be throwing challenges when you don't know the person you're talking to. I never said you guys looked bad by the way. ;-)
Sonny2170 3 years ago
Where do you see a challenge?

I believe I addressed this question. If you have others about wing chun or this video, feel free to post them.
