Thank you, this really helped!! My 6 yr old daughter just started taking lessons and I needed to get some understanding of it so I can help her practice at home.
Thanks very much for the video. What I realised is that the notes below the ledger lines are going in reverse whilst the notes about the ledger line are going in sequence. Hope this helps other newbies trying to learn like myself!
Thank's it rea;;y helped but can I ask you to do a video where you show how meny fingers to hold down for each note bottem and uper ledger line as well as one's in the staff please.
Thank you, it's been well over 8 years since I've played, now I have my old violin back and couldn't remember how to read all of the sheet music lol, I like your web site too, thank you again.
Hey Prof V, i find it a lil funny that you find going back to the very basics of NOTES reading almost laughable and I could just cry trying to make sense of what the musical scale is and how it's made up of seven notes represented by the letters A to G...the only thing that seems to make sense to me is Do thru Ti, but i really wana start over and learn to read music the way it's supposed to be done. So thanks for the effort, and I promise i'm gonna give my darndest best to try to make sense
I just wanted to let you know what a blessing you are! I have a violin and have wanted to learn for many years how to play, but I have not been able to afford lessons. Because of you and your youtube/website, in 3 days I am actually playing! You are a wonderful teacher and I am so excited you have been kind enough to offer these lessons to all that wanted to learn, but for whatever reason could not take lessons.
I really admire you professor V, I think it's so wonderful what you're doing, helping other people by uploading these videos, and taking your time for that!! Thanks A lot!!!!
I love watching your videos. I've been taking violin lessons por almost 2 months and I really love it! I'll be still watching you.

Wow, I'm excited with this viollin method lesson. Thanks for the innovation. I know this will be on great help for me and and other student. I am actually on a on-going violin lesson sir and also teaching at the same time(just started out). Learning the basic is of great importance. Thanks alot Sir Todd.
Thanks Professor. All your video are verry2 helpfull for beginer like me. Would you make a video about how to read the notes if there is a flat or sharp besides g-clef, or any clef? I'm so confuse. maybe you have a simple solution like Every Good Boy Does Fine. Thanks again.
Fantastic. I've been trying to get a grasp on the ledger line notes for a while but was too lazy to sit and learn them. The sheet on your website is a great help to me. I just found my (physical)violin teacher and I'm 18 so I have a lot to catch up on. Thanks again, Professor ^_^
I know the notes..but I can't read them fast enough while playing the violin at the same time. What excercises can I do to help me read the notes faster without writing the fingering numbers?
Thank you Professor! Very entertaining and easy to follow aproach!
I've sent this video to my 10 year old niece. She's not learning violin in particular, but she is learning to read music and she also found it extremely helpful.
Thank you for this wonderful video. Although, I can already read music, I found it informative and entertaining. I wish I would have had this video when I first started out. I actually learned to read music before I got my first Violin at age 38 (my first attempt at learning an instrument).
Again, thank you for donating so much of your time to spread the joy of music to those who would otherwise be denied such an exciting and wonderful gift.
Oh at the age of 38! and I was like (I'm toooooo old to learn violin, and I'm 23). This is so inspiring, So it doesn't have to be from childhood to really be able to play violin, does it?
I know that starting out so late I'll never be as great as Jascha Heifetz or Joshua Bell, but I am enjoying every second I play. I think that is all that matters. Do what you love and do your best at it. Music is meant to be enjoyed, and to create it yourself is a magical adventure.
And no, it's never too late to learn, just have realistic expectations and enjoy what you do.
Same here. Without Professor V, I probably would have given up a long time ago. In fact, I probably never would have bought my violin if it had not been for Professor V.
You're AWESOME. Thanks! Wish my dad was around and he was like you.

There is 'H' in the Swedish and German musical alphabet :). We use that rather than B. So, a guitar is tuned E-A-D-G-H-E.

european schools use H as a B flat
.... or something weird ilke that.
246trinitrotoluene 2 years ago
H is for B, whereas B flat is called just B. It originates from Germany, as far as I can recall.

Realistic Expectations ?
Oh... that's the bottom line!
In fact, I was having much-higher-expectations than I could possibly achieve, and that what made me find it sometimes hard to learn parts..
(Realistic expectations.. enjoy what you do, never give up)
I will always always remember your words - forever!
Thank You! You're such a great person!
I will never ever give up! ^^
