@voidmaster45 I agree. The Dresden Files show doesn't do the books justice. I've been listening to the audiobooks at work that are read by James Marsters and the feel of this show and the acting and flow just doesn't have the same vibe and quirkiness and brilliance as the books do. Of course, I'm sure reading the books is a lot different than listening to them but it's only my opinion, anyways. Plus Dresden and Murphy aren't at all like they are in the books.
In my openion the writers took way too many liberties in the show. They changed the rules, the monsters, the relationships. The director should have sticked with the origional design.
I saw a comment where someone brilliantly and maturely referred to the fans of the series as "failsauce" for not standing behind the show 100% but chew on this for a second -- the reason this series was probably even ever thought of as being potential TV show material was because the fans were so into it. I doubt anyone would have looked at it at all if it weren't popular. So how is that for "failsauce". ;)
That having been said, the show seems fun but I still prefer the book. Two diff things.
Why would anyonew ant Bob to be a talking skull? Bob was one of the things they vastly improved for the show. Even Jim Butcher said the ghost worked better.
Sweet tv show...I remember when I booted my sister from the tv to watch this show. lol I vaguely remember the show, though. hehe Nice that the person has season 1 listed for me. :p
@bradwolf07 They're under the same name. The first one is Storm Front. I reccomend the audiobooks read by James Marsters who played Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Wow so many little discrepancies, between the book and this pile up and make this pretty wrong. Escpecially, Murphy is blondein the book, and where the hell is MacAnaly's Pub?
yeah the stories on the show are way different from the books, he an bianca's relationship, hell he even gets a girl lol but i enjoyed the show as well it was entertaining.
I just started book 6 and I havn't seen any of the shows. I don't know if I wanna watch--it might mess up the pics I have in my head. Can't help myself.
I am a loyal fan of the book series THE DRESDEN FILES, and have all the books. This episode is one written especially for TV. it has elements of the series, though.
I look forward to seeing more episodes of the series.
@sirfuzzyman Flash Gordon was a pile of shit under another pile of shit under baseless displays of chest and ab muscles underneath another layer of shit compared this cool show.
The funny thing is the guy playing Bob isn't just a Broadway star. He's a drama teacher. Terrence Mann teaches Drama in North Carolina. So... Wait. Oh, my God! You're right. It all makese sense now! Teachers ARE evil!
Book one was adapted into the two hour pilot for Dresden. That 2 hour pilot was later cut down for episode 8 "Storm Front." In early 2007 they revised that episode and added new footage with Terry Mann voicing Bob from the skull. That version was meant to be a bonus feature on the DVD but for some reason it wasn't. It did air once on TV. The first book technically already has a film. The trick is getting Lionsgate to release the refurblished two hour cut of Dresden Files: Storm Front to DVD.
me too... I can believe they canceled this show, which was great.. while leaving lots of garbage still on the air.. especially reality TV like "Operation Repo"
Why are you confused? It's not a complex show. These creatures are all beings from classic folklore, just in a contemporary setting. Harry Dresden is a wizard and private investigator. His roommate is a ghost. And supernatural creatures secretly live among us. That's the plot in a nutshell.
Sadly it looks very unlikely. Jim Butcher (author of The Dresden Files novels) was actually asked today on an interview with Bitten by Books "Any chance that Sci Fi might bring the Dresden series back to TV?" and his reply was "None whatsoever.' :-( I wish he was wrong. I would give anything to see The Dresden Files come back.
That's just one of the fundamental laws of nature, unfortunately: the good stuff NEVER lasts for long! :P I've just learned to try and enjoy it while it's still here, because before you know it, they'll replace it with mindless reality shows and the like...
So much fun.
