I've been listening to the audiobooks at work that are read by James Marsters and the feel of this show and the acting and flow just doesn't have the same vibe and quirkiness and brilliance as the books do. Of course, I'm sure reading the books is a lot different than listening to them but it's only my opinion, anyways. Plus Dresden and Murphy aren't at all like they are in the books.

In my openion the writers took way too many liberties in the show. They changed the rules, the monsters, the relationships. The director should have sticked with the origional design.

I saw a comment where someone brilliantly and maturely referred to the fans of the series as "failsauce" for not standing behind the show 100% but chew on this for a second -- the reason this series was probably even ever thought of as being potential TV show material was because the fans were so into it. I doubt anyone would have looked at it at all if it weren't popular. So how is that for "failsauce". ;)

That having been said, the show seems fun but I still prefer the book. Two diff things.

I am a loyal fan of the book series THE DRESDEN FILES, and have all the books. This episode is one written especially for TV. it has elements of the series, though.

I look forward to seeing more episodes of the series.

Book one was adapted into the two hour pilot for Dresden. That 2 hour pilot was later cut down for episode 8 "Storm Front." In early 2007 they revised that episode and added new footage with Terry Mann voicing Bob from the skull. That version was meant to be a bonus feature on the DVD but for some reason it wasn't. It did air once on TV. The first book technically already has a film. The trick is getting Lionsgate to release the refurblished two hour cut of Dresden Files: Storm Front to DVD.

Why are you confused? It's not a complex show. These creatures are all beings from classic folklore, just in a contemporary setting. Harry Dresden is a wizard and private investigator. His roommate is a ghost. And supernatural creatures secretly live among us. That's the plot in a nutshell.

Sadly it looks very unlikely. Jim Butcher (author of The Dresden Files novels) was actually asked today on an interview with Bitten by Books "Any chance that Sci Fi might bring the Dresden series back to TV?" and his reply was "None whatsoever.' :-( I wish he was wrong. I would give anything to see The Dresden Files come back.

So much fun. I get that there are people who are like "Rawr, does not follow book" but it was low budget and a first season. following the books, would have been difficult, especially since it would take multiple episodes from the getgo and only devoted fans would care that much. Creating fun, new mysteries every week, even if not faithful to the originals, was a good move. Once again fans are failsauce.

That was actually my favorite element from the show. I have to admit, if I saw a tall guy in a long overcoat with a six-foot staff carved with runes, my first thought would probably be less 'huh, that's cool' and more 'dude, trying too hard.'

This is a very good and under-rated episode. This was the first TV show I had ever seen use a proper, Native American Skinwalker as a villain.
