Bruzer that's cuz you have no back pressure so you lost your pep off he start. I've got a 2000 with the 4.8 with true dual 40's and cai and it does great. Keeps up with stock stangs not bad for a truck.

@FSJ19791 1999 chevy silverado--> short bed, single cab 4WD-->4.8L open exhaust no cats just true fluted duals, 125HP dry shot nitrous, forced air induction via hood, few hundred pounds (around 550lbs) removed from stock, programmed heavily and NO emissions bullshit...u can program the governor out with a Hypertech. Mine is a stock geared 5speed and reaches 115 in third gear if I really hammer it, VERY strong from 40 to around 105.

hey I got an 05 with a hypertech tune, cold air kit, and a true dual exhaust with glasspacks no cats. when i first got all this stuff for it less than a year ago, it would pull rubber from a stop, now it sleeps on the line. Once i get to about 2-3k rpm it takes off. have you had this problem?

@bruizer2011 Hey man I have a NBS 07 gmc sierra 1500 4.8 CC and I was using the hypertech programmer. Do yourself a favor and take it off. It would really get up and go when i first put it on but since than its destroyed my tranny, 1st time was bad, 2nd time just happend 4months out of warranty and is currently in the shop having clutch packs TC, pump, etc etc replaced around 2100bucks.

where did you get the tune from? I have an '06 (check out my exhaust clip) and never see power like that from my motor, or any other 4.8 i've been in.

@dicin29 alright just to let you know the 01 5.3 silverado only has 10 more horsepower than the 01 4.8 silverado and dont know the exact amount of torque off the top of my head but the 5.3 only has a tiny bit more then the 4.8...plus i have read that the 5.3 for that year range has more problems .

i have also towed many heavy loads with the 4.8 with no problem at all...to sum it all up the 4.8 is a great truck for any task

@rossi14dth ok, but will it tow a 22 ft boat with no problem?? or a 31ft camper??? our truck (an 08 1500 5.3) doesnt tow well, not good for towing our boat and camper, or when we need to tow small trailers that need a tag-anlong hitch.....

Looks like speedo wasn't calibrated for bigger rear gears. I've rode in a buddies 4.8 with a cam, Cold air, and tune, and was no were near this fast.
