  • Really helpful vid. T4Show. I struggled to find conversion solutions - some were dated webpages (goog searched up some from 2006) or they suggested downloading utilities (of which I'm not a big fan). I have iTunes 10 + win7 and still figured to find conversion process with this video. Goes to say -Video is worth 5000 words :) Thanks indeed.

  • Thanks for your help!!! It was so quick and easy after watching this! :D

  • This is for people who dont have the "General, Import, burning" tabs. go to general, there should be a Import settings beside "when you insert a disc" , click it and change it to MP3 Encoder =) worked for me.

  • Many users are looking for MP4 to MP3 converter mp4 to them. file extension. This is due to conversion of MP3 MP4 audio files to help them extract them to a more portable format. Today, most people have an Apple iPod or similar music player.

  • I have a PC and I don't know where to go, there is no 'itunes tab'. Help?

  • @alexdancegirl

    Edit>Preferences

then under General, click Import Settings

  • aac's a hog (of file size) compared to mp3.

  • @appleAddict240872 ur a noob. AAC has a BETTER system of audio processing then the outdated MP3, you just think it hogs more because itunes has it defualt on 256kb/s of AAC, but you can switch it to 128kb/s which is the same kb/s of the average mp3, but both being the same kilobtye ratio(same file size of the same song) AAC will be the better sounding(in theory)

  • @SuperLearningCenter doesn't really matter, aac won't play on my android. just don't want to break my neck nerves spending hours trying to figure out how to convert to mp3, just because somebody thought aac would take less size, in these days of Gigabytes and Mbps.

  • Comment removed

  • @drstalone 1- AppleAddict's statement "aac's a hog (of file size) compared to mp3" is the only thing i was addressing. 2- your statement sucks anyways, a 128 bitrate AAC is comparable to 256bitrate MP3, so if you have 20gigs of MP3 you could just have 10gig of AAC. most people unlike you have a ALOT of music which does take up gigabytes, in which this does matter. your android phone can play AAC, its called downloading an App for it, i hope doing that doesnt break your neck nerves lol.

  • @SuperLearningCenter that's impressive, anyway luckily I happened to get the mp3 versions of whatever I wanted, and sorry it was not aac but m4b that I'd trouble with, it seem aac is natively supported on android. Only that quicktime associated with m4b and showed it as aac audiobook, and windows as always assumes hiding extensions is a good thing.

  • @drstalone you have the option to disable "hide extensions" in windows, type "hide extensions" in your "Windows Help and Support" and itll tell you how to disable and enable the feature.

  • Ahhhhh, you're a champ! Cheers! :) Helped a lot when trying to get a file ready for use in PowerPoint.

  • thanks

  • hey, on mine there isn't a iTunes tab at the top. Ive got the latest version but it isnt there. Is this b/c im using a PC? Or Windows? Can someone help?

  • Thank you so much for this info, it worked, fantastic......!

  • is there a way 2 convert vids 2 mp4 or 3?

  • This doesn't work. I go to advanced and I can't click on that option. Itunes looks different now and this option isn't clickable.

  • Thank you SO much for posting this video! I was about to try and look for some program online, but this was so much better. And it was easy to follow even though I have a PC the directions were fairly simple.

@shadowreality5 Yeah, I need it to upload songs onto a certain website. They only take mp3.

  • how can i get atrac files to mp3 how????? please help

  • Forgive my asking but why the hell would you convert an AAC to an mp3? It has better sound quality and is more space efficient. Perhaps for compatibilty with some devices?!?!?

  • you answered your own question there shadow

  • YOu would need to convert AAC to MP3 if you are exporting iTunes songs and making a CD out of them.

  • The reason I want to convert an AAC file to an MP3 file, is because i want to be able to put audio in the videos i make.. I use windows movie maker and it only accepts MP3 files.. most of the music I already have on iTunes are AAC files

  • yepp thats my exact problem :(

  • yeah. i cant turn them into mp3....how do you do that???

  • thanksssssss )))))))))))))))))

  • This rocks. Also, I have snow leopard and the newest version of iTunes. It's a little different, but it's still in there under Advanced from the main tab bar. With the file selected, the option reads "Create MP3 Version." but it worked.

  • okay, actually, it is a lot easier in the most recent version of iTunes (i'm not sure if snow leopard makes a difference) right click options include "Convert to MP3" right in the menu.

  • i wish this would work on windows

  • u have a cool voice, thanks

  • This is for versions previous to 9. In 9 it's right click on the track, then create mp3 version.

  • LOVE you for this post!!!

  • this is really old.

  • this doesnt work on the macbook pro...the same options dont come up...! apple are shit 4 that!

  • i know right!!!!

  • Thank you! This is way easier than downloading all the crap on the web!

  • Thank you soooo much! :)

  • thankyou this saves so much time.

  • Holy crap, dude, you just saved me big time. It's so simple, too.

  • Thank you buddy, that was a BIG help :)

  • THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH :D :D :D

  • Brilliant, many thanks. I had no idea you could do this straight from iTunes.

  • THANK YOU!

  • all my songs are protected AAC so i cant change...help?

  • I have the same problem. unfortunatly all AAC files purchased through the iTunes Store before april 2009 that were encoded with fairplay's DRM will not be able to be converted to mp3 within your iTunes library. instead you have to manually make your own "audio cd" first then re-rip the files on that cd back to the library of your choosing(iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc). it's stupid but that's what DRM does to these files. they also cannot be play in the car as a data cd thanks to the DRM...

  • If you have any AAC files purchased form the iTunes Store in the new 256 kbps "iTunes Plus" format then those are free of DRM and are able to converted to mp3's right within your iTunes library. theres a "Create An MP3 Version" link in your iTunes library if you right-click the non-DRM'ed purchased AAC file. click "Create An MP3 Version" and an MP3 version of your song is created. hope this helps you out.

  • hmm...strange it wouldnt really let me play all my son gs but like 10 , like ti said ti needed to find a folder to find it, so i was just messin with it cuz mp3 format w/e, so i just did that........so i deleted alls ongs and put them back in from limewire.... so i did that advance thing....it started making a double of my song/// but i cancled n deleted the douplicates n i just clicked songs and they all play now!

  • Thanks! but Im trying to put them into movie maker but when i try to import it it doesnt work can you please help me like I convert it into a mp3 using iTunes but it just stil says it cant import it on Movie Maker!?!?!? please help!

  • tyvm! My phone manual says it can play aac but the phone itself says it doesn't... and it doesn't.

  • Thank you so much!!!!!

  • I have several AAC files in a folder on my desk top. When I open the folder and click on a song, it plays it in quicktime player. After watching this I know how to convert the AAC files to MP3, but I don't know how to move the AAC files into Itunes

    Please help!

  • thanks!

  • Dunno why but my preferences look different than yours...Does anyone know why?

  • In the newer versions of iTunes, it's Edit>Preferences>General, then next to where it says "When you insert a CD:" click Import Settings.
