What an amazing and evocative song. Many have covered it but only Aaron Neville can equal Newman's delivery, albeit in a wholly different style. And what better place to see Newman play it than at the classic fest in his mom's home town.
I was at this performance, front row. The crowd sang lustily along with many songs, but on this one it seemed no one could rise above a choked whisper. The whole show was very emotional, but this was the peak. Oh, and that monologue before the song was pure and welcome truth. Thank you, Randy, even though you caused me to weep for my city again. I thought I had run out of tears, you bastard. Thank you.

Thanks for posting this. I have never seen Randy this emotional whilst singing Louisiana 1927.
