I have an Acer laptop (5738G) and I am very pleased with the way it works. I have absolutely no problem. Of course there could be a model where something went wrong - you have warranty for that. I am sure that there is no brand with zero problems.

LCD CABBLE or LCD CABLES SOCKET ON MOTHERBOARD. - CHECK THE PINS, maybe missing one in socket.

i had the same problem, so i just tried to fix it to my way, so i just have to say, punching the display will not work, it will just make ur display go broken, FTW!

I was so pissed that i just threw mi lap to my bed & went to my desktop pc shit!! Anyway it might be a bus problem

ive owned a ibm thinkpad t23 for 9 years only the hardrive failed a toshiba satilite never had a problem sold it after 3 years my new samsung r580 has no problems but my bloody acer aspire 1 netbook has had soo many problems the battery failed twice speakers shorted out cooling fan failed and the power brick nearley caught on fire and i only had it for 2 years

ALL acer laptop had this problem. DON'T EVER BUY ACER AGAIN because they are just taking money from us in exchange for a USELESS product!!!! They will try to fix it at first but then the problem will occur again after a few months especially when your warranty is due already! such BOGUS COMPANY!!!

After 18 months with my Acer Aspire

-power cord over heated and burned out. acer charge £40 for an official new one (not that i would buy their crap)

-machine is unbelievably slow

- screen has now deteriorated to an unusable state.

I've had an Acer laptop for 7 years ,it's stil working. Acer is NOT a bad brand, it depends on what models you buy. If you buy Acer Emachine, then u are screwed. If you buy a bit more expansive Aspire, then you're good. And if you had problems right from the start, then ask if you can get a new model.

@ultrawaregamestudios he has an acer aspire 5520g had it 13 months and it wont boot up.just went off it was working fine..shop says its the motherboard..thats what acer do.put cheap motherboards in to last a certain amount of time...if acer or anyone gave me a free laptop...the best specs...if it was an acer i would refuse it

@crash3uk i got exactly the same problem, but on my visit to the philippines i stumbled upon a little laptop repair shop and they change 2 of the resistors on the motherboard. good as new im reloading the software right now.

Really? There technical support for any of them (All being acer) is terrible, its not acer + a brand its a group! I think that all acers are terrible! I see this problem very often; usually it is the LCD ribbon cable which has dislodged slightly from the back of the LCD panel. To fix, unscrew and remove the front screen bezel, then unscrew the LCD panel and tilt it forwards so you can get to the back, then carefully remove the tape which holds the connector to the back of the LCD in place, remove and reseat the connector and replace the peice of tape.

Reassemble and it should work fine; if it doesn't the LCD panel itself may be faulty,

my son had this problem, take out 4 screws from of display,pull off the display border unscrew 2 screws off the hinges and youll see behind the screen is a floppy curcuit board, if looking at the screen face on youll need to push the curcuit board on the top left , so your putting pressure on the board and forcing it down hill towards the hinges, this can be done safely while still switched on, take care not rip off any components, then i used strong tape to hold it in place, worked for me ?

I Have Exactly The Same Problem On This Laptop I'm Using Now, I Just Connect It Up To A Monitor With a DVI Cable, You Might Want To Buy A Monitor For The Laptop As I Heard That After They Fix The Screen, (By Replacing The LCD Inverter (WD JanMetabolic) It Breaks After A While again, at 400 pounds a pop, a Monitor would be a better solution

You use the blue headed cable and plug it into the socket on the monitor and on the laptop, the socket should have lots of little prongs and a screw kinda hole either side

try connecting an external screen to see if its the screen or if its the graphics card/driver or something.

a similar thing happened to my ~4 year old asus laptop, and it was a problem with the connection between the screen and the cpu etc.

Never buy Acer again. I had problems here in Spain but with a LCD TV 37 screen from this bloody brand. Problem started just after one month we bought the TV. I got 3 repairs in 2 years warranty, waiting for months to get repaired each time. A shame. I've started a legal acction against them now.

We brought this acer laptop for our son 18 months ago,had problems right from the start..terrible. screen flickers,lines half screen missing,acer just want money,money, money,not helpful at all. does anyone have any ideas on what this might be,we checked cables,look ok,might be inverter,lcd/screen. been checked on outside monitor works fine,,any ideas anyone?
