  • What year strat is that? Any mods, sounds great.

  • @bjbrunetti It's a 1994 USA Strat w/ Custom Shop 54's pickups. Thanks for watching!

  • you have nailed fripp.....and hendrix..........

  • thanks to you i can finaly play this song

  • @henkiewessel : Great!

  • Nicely done!

  • Yeah! You da man!

  • Amazing cover...great tone/feel. I am killing myself trying to nail that vibe...someday I will be victorius.

  • nice rickenbacker bass

  • very nice indeed!!

  • this was amazing 5/5! haha i liked the fact you did the intro to castles made of sand lol.

  • is there a solo or am I retarded?

  • @Steven676 The song doesn't have a solo

  • well done mate! well done

  • nice 1

  • the thing about hendrix is that u cant learn it with tabs. u gotta work it out yourself.

  • @Olpaj Or you could just get stoned, worked fro Jimi :)

  • yea!!!!

  • AWESOME!!! Great work

Nice little segue at the end as well. Always amazed me hearing him sing this live.

  • Yeah Jimi go

  • A spot-on guitar cover!Nicely done!

  • rock solid !!!!!!!!!

  • 0.0 Damn...

  • holy crap its perfect

tab? ive been trying to learn it for the longest tie but i can only figure out bits and pieces

please please send me a tab if you have one

  • Sorry, no tabs used here. =(

Just watch and copy my position, and you'll get it!

    Good luck, WMH! =D

  • Awesome Jimi covers man. You get him just about as good as anyone can.

I was wondering, do you like John Mayer much? Seeing as how he's so deeply influenced by Stevie and Jimi, I was wondering what your take on him is. Great covers again.

  • I dig JM, too!

I do a cover of "Who did you think I was".

    Check it out!

BTW, I am hoping for another John Mayer Trio 'style' album someday.

  • I was pretty psyched about Battle Studies, it's an amazing album, just not blusey. The closest thing they have on there which he may have used the trio for is the song, "Crossroads".

I'll check it out man. Cheers!

  • @motorpsych0 Same here on the Trio album. You're a great player. Love watching your vids. Just rewatched you're purple haze the other day.

  • @motorpsych0

    What? No Mayer/Hendrix argument?

  • you are very good. you have combination of hendrix and john mayer respectfully. the sound is tight. your tone is very much like jimi's which is really hard to get down for a cover...

  • Assum :3

  • Respect man, this is awesome.

  • damn home boy u shred ... damn ...

  • That's just about as good as one can play it... Nice coda!

  • Great playing, my friend.

  • Thanks, man!

  • What strat is that? I have one that is a 50th anniversary but it has a maple fret board. i purchased it from the local music shop a couple a years ago for around 700 in the case. I just wonder what its worth, what pickups it has, and if its authentic!

    Great playing by the way!!

  • This is a 1996 model, not the 2001 model. Fender celebrated their 50th anniversary with a Stratocaster from the Custom Shop that year. The 2001's are the Strat's 50th anniversary.

This one has Custom '54s in it, and it's the real deal (including the painted headstock).

    Thanks for watching!

  • I always loved that soul influenced side of Hendrix's rhythm playing. Nice to see someone playing through the tune that knows what they are doing!

  • Hey, I appreciate it, mateo2006!

  • im going to see if i can teach myself this song from this video

  • This sounds great! How long have you been playing?

  • I have played as a hobby (off and on) since I was a teenager. =D

  • dude i have to pick up my face from the floor because you just melted my face off! i have a hard time with keeping playing the funk in this song but you GOT IT DOWN!!!

  • Thanks, legendaryedge!

  • I love it man, I'm in the process of learning this song. The groove in this song is so amazing! You nailed it perfectly.

  • I appreciate it, XrockerX!

  • niiiice playing man, very impresive

  • Thank you, xplodetrain!

  • about as perfect as you can get

    Thanks for watching, iGT!

  • Props dude - Mad Props....

  • Thank you, jbsoccerbrit! =D

  • GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks, T92780!!! =)

  • Rad, dude.

    Peace to you my Friend

  • Thank you, Enrique!

Yes, I posted a short video of my HarleyDavidson.

I will send you the link. I know you like cars and working on things like this! It's another hobby of mine.

  • Great job. I love this song too. Great.

Good Castles Made of Sand at the end too

  • Thanks, soloscur! =D

  • superb job my friend!!!!!---from an ole woodstock hippie, jimi would like it

  • Love your playing - I thought I'd learn this because I love the rhythm but I just can't seem to get the break before the chorus, I'll get there one day.

  • You get it soon, I'm sure!!!!!

    Keep playing Jimi's music! =D

  • Yeah Motor, you rock this flawlessly. I wish I were as good as you too.

    Peace and Hendrix (our founder)

    JB

  • I like that...

    "Our Founder" - JIMI!

  • Yeah I liked that he was a lefty like meself.

Noel Redding:"Hey Jimi, do you smoke?"

    Jimi: (exhaling smoke) "Nooooooooooo"

    Haha.

  • Excellent playing man ... love your work!

  • Thanks, troy! =D

  • all in all its pretty good, your missing some runs here and there but not bad

  • Thanks, simon!

  • It is very good!!

  • Thanks, fuzikoya!

  • Here in Brazil one of these is like $5000 dolars, or $12000 reais, and there are some guitar like the guitar you're using that costs like $8000 or $20000 reais

  • but eBay deliver to Brazil?

  • i wishe i had money to buy one of these guitars =/

  • I put down $610 for this one on eBay! That's affordable, man! =)

  • Awesome! Your cover of Bold as Love is also excellent! we want more Jimi's covers!

  • OK, man!

  • You, my friend, are great. I've watched a few of your vids and they're all just awesome. Let me know if you ever need a drummer for anything. I love Hendrix. Keep playing man.

    Peace and Love

  • Thank you very much, ponchovia135!

I may need a drummer soon! A Mitch Mitchell clone would be awesome!

  • dood that kills you rock, you should play some gigs, uve got the talent

  • For Hire: Rhythm guitar player for your Hendrix cover band. Have own amps, guitars, effects and PA system. Extensive knowledge of Hendrix tunes. Call me today!

    Thanks, elisfenderbender!

    I hope someone calls!!!! =D

  • does any1 else have trouble keepin ur thumb on the bottom note while playin the rest of the bar chord? i cant seem to bar the highest two notes with my index while keeping my thumb down...advice plz!!!!!

  • My only advice is practice, practice, practice!

I have larger than normal hands (like Jimi), so this is easy for me to execute.

  • thats awesome!! do you have the tabs?

  • Sorry man, I don't use tabs. I play by ear. =D

    Thanks for watching, John!

  • Nice work! p.s. I see a rickenbacker next to you. good choice. those basses are the bee's knees!!

  • Thanks again, drums!!!!

    Yeah, RICS Rule!

  • is the tunning half a step down?

  • Yes, that was Jimi's standard tuning.

    (Eb tuning).

  • well heya robert -- long time, buddy -- you're the first place I go looking when I wanna "see" what a song I'm workin' on looks like... as always, helluva bangup job on this one. can you tell me a little about your amp's settings and whatever pedals you might be using to get this kinda tone? thanks brotha - my girls say hi

  • Hey man! It's been a long time since I videoed this, but I was set on my "clean" channel, no pedals, and I was set to the neck/middle position on the Strat pickup switch. That's where the tone comes from. It's the classic out-of-phase sound that I adore!

Thanks as always for watching, theerion!

Say HI to everyone in FLA from TEXAS. =D

  • Hey bro, you missed a great opportunity to say "the tone -- it's all in my fingers, man." LOL just kidding, but I'm not, because the tone IS all in your fingers. Hand Jimi a two-stringed broom handle and he could've made sweet sounds. Middle-neck, I just tried it with this song and yeah, it's a sweet sound for sure. I keep tryin' to sing this one and keep getting reminded why I shouldn't bother trying to sing.

  • helped me a shit load man, thanks

  • gotta agree with everyone else, good work man this sounds really good

  • I appreciate it, JM12sl! =D

  • Awesome! just what I needed to learn the song!

  • Cool! Glad I could help!

  • awesome!

  • Thanks, Jake!

  • What kind of Rickenbacker is that in the background?

  • It's a 1973 Ric 4001!

I have a bunch of vids where I play it.

    Check them out!

  • a+.............amazing

  • Thanks, coreyagraph!

  • hey man wats a good song that i could use to work on figureing out songs by ear?

  • I would try Spanish Castle Magic!

  • nice

  • Thanks, gOaTcrackalac88!

  • God damn tab whores, just go by ear....look at the fretboard and get a feel for it...

  • Yeah, that's basically how I play.

I just tell people to let Jimi's vibe show them the way. =D

  • what kind of fender stratocaster is that?

  • It's a 1996 USA Strat (w/ CustomShop '54 pickups).

  • hey how are you playing the chorus? all the tabs ive found are wrong. they are telling me to play em, g, then an a all in open chords. it doesnt sound right at all but yours does

  • There are two guitars in the chorus, and I chose the one in the lower registers. I don't know how I play it...I just play it as I hear it.

Just watch my finger position, and make the chords there. Let Jimi's vibe show you the way! =D

  • Great playin'. How do you remove Jimi's guitar in order to play over it?

    Anyway, it sounded good.

  • I found an awesome backing track CD on eBay, which was made using original board track studio recordings, only the guitar track was dropped out. It's basically guitar karaoke, and you can become Jimi! It was the best find on eBay ever!

  • thats why Jimis covers are so hard to play because its so hard to play with that feeling like Jimi...

  • Thanks for that, Andrius9213! =D

    HENDRIXIANS UNITE!!!

  • Mesa-Boogie. Fuckin nice!

  • Hell yeah...Boogie tone rules!

  • where can i find the tabs for this

  • I don't know, man. I play by ear, since tabs for Jimi are usually wrong. It's more about the feeling, anyway! =D

    Thanks for watching, asyal12!

  • awesome cover!!!

  • Thank you, Andrius!

  • nice ending with castles made of sand...and great cover!!!

  • Yeah, it just seemed to flow naturally into Castles!

    Thanks, EasyBoys91!

  • I thought that was awesome brother, Great job!

I've been dieing to figure out how to play that song for years

  • Thank you very much, notthatmike!

    Peace~

  • It's all me playing, man!

My backing track is made from original Jimi recordings, except his guitar is dropped out. So the guitar you are hearing is mine! =D

My thing is playing Jimi note-for-note. So indirectly, you have suggested that my guitar sounds just like Jimi's guitar! It's all good.

    Thanks for watching, jimihendrix1967!

    Peace~

  • only a moron couldn't tell the difference... there's a clear difference in sound quality of the guitar and the background music.

  • 5* motor.

Just a query whats the position or chord you play at the start of the chorus it would be a big help as ive pretty much learnt this song by watching your video, and learnt others from your other vids.

  • Are you referring to the chord with hammer-ons at the 10th fret? (Time mark: 33 sec.)

  • Im hopefully refering to the little slide up at around the 38 second mark?

  • dude you have my EXACT same guitar!, haha, love your cover, real nice ;)

  • Very Cool, man!

I hope to see your Strat on YouTube someday!

    Thanks for watching, Pancho449!

  • great cover

  • Thanks, man! =D

  • exellent cover too!

  • Thanks again, man!

  • how did you learn this man? all the tabs i've seen show another version which I can play but it seems a lot more trouble than this.

  • I just play by ear, man. It took some time, but I figured it out.

Just follow me if you can! =D

    Thanks for watching, jovialduke!

  • I've been working a lot on ear training. No matter how badly i wanna look at tabs to certain songs i convince myself to figure it out by ear.

Where do you begin? I usually just find the root note of a chord then play around with it until it sounds right - but that always throws me off when a chord in a song is an inversion.

So yeah, help me out a bit here. How do you usually figure out your songs?

  • Man, I wish you could come over to my house. I would personally teach you if I could.

Here is something that might help. Go to guitarworld d.o.t com, and go to their "store", and buy the How to play Axis:Bold as Love DVD by Andy Aledort. He breaks it down real well.

Again, I play completely by ear. It helps to LOVE Jimi Hendrix, too!

  • I know we've talked plenty about the ear thing but... Is it because you know a shit load of Scales or what? I still confuses me yet amazes me with people learning it by ear

  • No, I am just a do-it-yourself guitarist. I don't read music, or practice scales or anything. I have a good memory for phrasing, so once I pick out the notes, I am good to go.

Again, it takes weeks to completely figure out a song sometimes! =D

  • Holy Fuck! Same boat cept I try to learn scales I hate Music Notes lol

  • great

  • Thanks, tleaomurta!

  • very nice cover and nice axe

  • Thanks, tgunner5!

Glad you like the Strat. =D

    Peace~

  • You don't usually think of Hendrix composing "cute" songs...but dammit this is really cute! Fine job, thanks for posting.

  • You know, you are right man!

Hey, I'm glad I passed the inspection! =D

    Thanks, TheSanityInspector.

    Peace~

  • :) really nice cover

    is it american strat?

I would like to change me black...I would like this one or electron blue but I think that electron blue is made only in mexico:(´ Do you know?

  • Thanks, sgstandard61!

Yes, it is an American Stratocaster (Made in USA) 1996.

Also, I think you are correct about the Electron Blue Strats being MIM. I don't think the color is available as a USA Strat.

    Others?

  • :) thanks

  • very nice

  • Thanks, mynamespitt!

    Thanks for watching. =D

  • what an amazing song, great cover keep it up!!!

  • Thanks, MrJS1990!

Yeah man, I'll keep jammin to Jimi! =D

    Peace~

  • hey what kind of amp are you using?
