There are lots guitar players with talent in fast playing...but Santana shows here that it is all about taking your time and develpping to a climax....BRAVO.
How the hell can I get that sustain? i have a Epiphon les paul standard. but its sustain is not even close to this "eternal" fucking note... how do I get it?
@Xavimanjazz His PRS has tone chambers inside the body to increase resonance, and MESA/BOOGIE amps on 10 will give you pretty good sustain with almost any guitar if you stand close enough to it.
@al21211 Nope, Carlos' doesn't use any sustain pedals. Solely relies on feedback from his Mesa Boogie / Dumble speakers. He usually marks the floor to be sure to have the sweetspots marked out on stage.

@AlexJasso100 For this tone/sustain, pick up a Boogie Mark 1 (old or reissue), replace the speaker with a tone tubby or a cannabis rex, get a PRS Santana guitar (either an expensive one or the new 2011 SE model), crank it, adjust your position on the stage so the note will sustain, then mark it so you can repeat it during the concert. Also make sure you hit that note at the same fretboard position that he hits. Certain positions sustain better. I just now did it here at my desk.
@AlexJasso100 Got your answer yet?? A humbucker works best, than a single coil pick up. The hard was is to find a balance between your amp's volume and the way you turn your guitar to the amps. If you pick up the signal of the amp a bit too loud with your guitar turned to your amp you'll get feetback. If you're lucky and hold steady the feetbacktone will hold a long time. Easiest way is to gtet a sustainer pedal or a feetbacker pedal.

how do you make a guitar sustain for that long?? if i tried that with my guitar it would die off in like 3 seconds

@AlexJasso100 For this tone/sustain, pick up a Boogie Mark 1 (old or reissue), replace the speaker with a tone tubby or a cannabis rex, get a PRS Santana guitar (either an expensive one or the new 2011 SE model), crank it, adjust your position on the stage so the note will sustain, then mark it so you can repeat it during the concert. Also make sure you hit that note at the same fretboard position that he hits. Certain positions sustain better. I just now did it here at my desk.

@AlexJasso100 Got your answer yet?? A humbucker works best, than a single coil pick up. The hard was is to find a balance between your amp's volume and the way you turn your guitar to the amps. If you pick up the signal of the amp a bit too loud with your guitar turned to your amp you'll get feetback. If you're lucky and hold steady the feetbacktone will hold a long time. Easiest way is to gtet a sustainer pedal or a feetbacker pedal.
