Im conservative and I work for the federal Prison. We have a union but it doesn't set our pay and we cannot strike or have a work stoppage! We have job security though as being Federal Officers. So don't attack all federal workers. The state prison system cannot maintain or handle the types of inmates that are housed in Federal institutions, also unlike state or local you must have college and experience to work for the federal Prison

And look at the situation now. It is not as bad as the unions said it would be. You would think that the people in them unions would see that the unions lied. Look up A History of Labor Unions from Colonial Times to 2009
I know three people who were laid-off and it could be discrimination. In either case it was wrongfull termination and we have proof but management don't want to here it. A union would not let this happen, employees need protection from wrong doing. I understand cutting cost so government can keep going, it seems to me that they want to cut the little guy, when there are employee making 50hr for 15 years. What about offering a retirment plan for employees with 10,15 or 20 years service.
Yes, I do believe government employee should have the union. Unions are there to protect the employee. I worked for Dupont for 6 years pay was terrible for amount of labor I was doing. Starting pay was 7hr, 6 years later it was 12hr. The reason for the increase was because of the union. Every time the union rep start passing out flyers we got a raise. You mentioned about working hard and being an asset. I know people who were an asset for 30 years and got laid-off and had nothing.
You have the right idea, however, the Government does not need to lay these people off, in fact, it is the unions that call for layoffs, rather then these greedy people paying into there own pensions, pensions being something that does not exist in the private sector. Walker, in fact saved 1500 Gov workers jobs, who otherwise would have been laid off to make the difference of these greedy pigs paying increased amounts into there pension fund.
@MarxIsDead,government jobs the essential ones,should be excluded from layoffs.Public must be protected at all costs.Non essential ones should be the first to go,wast of money to begin with.

Public sector unions are a violation and usurpation of the constitution. They are servants and we are the masters simple not the other way around. If we want to be jerks and keep them around or get rid of them that is our choice. They have no collective rights because only individual rights exist. We deal with this because people have become corrupt and have found a way to stick their hands in the public cookie jar. Unions suffered once, now they turned the tables and have become what they hate
