  • @pwhite73 No, But I Want To. I Can't Seem To Find It A Low Price

  • I'm 11 And I Have An HO Scale Layout!

  • @emcamev Nice!!! Do you have DCC yet for your layout?

  • im 13 and i have ho layout

  • @operator458 Very cool! Well, just keep collecting and saving and in no time you will have plenty of nice trains. The best advise that I have for you is to get good quality stuff that will last. I made the mistake of buying cheap stuff early and it doesn't really work as well as my other stuff. So just get the stuff that is good and will last for a long time.

  • how much trnz do u hav

  • @operator458 Ha ha ha!! I have a TON of trains! Most I've had since I was little, but I have gotten bigger and better trains as I've gotten older. I got this set from Red Canyon Trains on ebay. I watched it for a loooooong time before I finally decided to buy it.

  • @pwhite73 i hate amtrak im a union pacific guy

  • wered u get it

  • god i wish i had that. 5 STARS!!!!

  • Hey Pat, did the car-to-car passageways come with the Surfliner, or did you have to buy them seperately?

  • That all came with the cars also! The only things I've added to this set is the sound decoders, people inside the cars, and Walther's trucks to improve their rolling. Everything else is exactly how it came from the factory.

  • Wow nice! Good luck to me! Im in a bidding for 4 Overland Pacific Surfliner Cars on Ebay!!!!! BTW, The cabcar is 6900, the coach is 6408, Coach/Cafe 6305,and the PBC is 6800.

  • Sweet!!!!! Let me know if you win!!!

  • Thanks!!! Maybe some day if I win, we can meet up with all our Surfliners and make that 9-car 2-engine Del Mar Races set!!!

  • YEAH!!!! That'd be cool!!!

  • Wait man, my parents are all sketchy now because theyre sold seperately. But theres still a chance.......I hope. =-/

  • Comment removed

  • I didnt win.........................

  • Dang!!! Bummer, sorry to hear that man. I was rooting for you!!!

  • I know it sucks! The bidding on the the cabcar went up to $850 and they all expired at the exact same second!!!!

  • Wow!!! That's expensive. Mine averaged out to be about $583 a piece for all 6.

  • you got 6 cars?

  • No, I got 5 cars and 1 loco. That was just the cost of the entire set divided by 6. Not too bad considering the cab car cost around $600 brand new (I think) and the loco around $800.

  • Can you please tell me all of the special features on the train.

  • You should make another video of your Amtrak California Cars. Anyway nice video!

  • Thanks!!! I will, just haven't had a chance to yet, but its coming soon. I promise!!!

  • Yeah, I've been wanting to make another, but I have to load the videos that I've got on my camera right now. But I promise, as soon as I free up some room on my video card, I'll make some new videos!

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • I CANT WAIT!!!!!

  • Nice! Im getting a metrolink set and putting in the new tsunami sound 710 in.

  • Awesome! Let me know how you like it. I haven't heard one of those decoders in person, only on here. I'd like to put one in my brother's Metrolink loco.

  • that is an impressive cab car

  • Thank you very much!

I have to admit, this was always a dream of mine after getting involved in DCC. I loved watching the trains in "Push" mode and thought it would be cool to do with a model. And this came out perfect!!

    Thanks again!

  • Beautiful cab car/consist! And commend your friend on his great layout as well!

  • Thanks again!

Yeah, I love this whole set, but the cab car is my favorite of the entire set. I have never seen anything like it!

  • Awesome. Are all of your vids of your surfliner on your friends layout or yours?

  • All of my Surfliner vids are done on my friend's layout. My isn't big enough for this train! Even with the bigger outside track, its too tight for the big brass cars to make the turns.

  • It's called the Red Caboose

  • Oh cool! Where about in New York?

I've never been there, but I would love to see the city some time! Besides being a railfan and model railroader, I collect code 3 FDNY and NYPD models!

  • New York

  • awesome! This set must run a lot of $. The store I go to overprices EVERYTHING. I remember seeing a set of 5 HO people and they were $18. I don't know if that was me, or he overcharges everything.

  • Yeah, my set was very expensive! That does sound kinda high but then again, depending on the make, sometimes the models are hand painted so they are a lot more expensive.

What store do you go to? Do you live in CA? If so, you might want to try Arnies in Westiminister. They have really good prices there!

  • I would consider myself lucky If I just had the cars, but you have them but filled with DCC. I noticed in the normal cars, not the end car, that there were little red lights, was that part of the DCC or did them come like that?

  • Ha ha, yeah! I couldn't believe my luck with finding this set. Plus, just when I bought it, there was another guy from England that took out a loan to purchase it, but I beat him to it!!!

Actually, regarding the red marker lights, they came like that! That is not a DCC feature!

  • I know a train store that I sometimes go to and I remember christmas shopping there and seeing at least three of these cars there in the brass collection but I never knew how important they were so I am hoping they aren't too much!

  • Wow! That is awesome!!!!

If you find them, I'd recommend buying them! If for nothing more than an investiment!

If you don't, let me know who it is and I might buy some more! LOL!!!

  • I think there are only two people in the world with these cars and your one of them. LUCKY!

  • Ha ha! Yeah, thanks!! This set me back quite a bit, but I figured that I'd never seen a complete set like this before and didn't know if I ever would again, so I bought it. I wish there were more out there though.

I'd like to have another set!!!!

  • Do you know what Company Makes this?

  • The train set is made by Overland Models (its all brass), except engine #458 is made by Athearn. The sound decoders are all LokSound.

  • I think it is actually handcrafted by Anjin in South Korea.

  • Yeah, Anjin is the maker and they are distributed by Overland models.

What kind of special features are you talking about. So far, the loco and cab car have LokSound decoders in them that are programmed to sound like the real thing (or close to it), the cars all have new Walther's trucks on them so that they roll smother, and finally, I have started installing people in the cars.

  • Cool!!! : D

  • Please tell me this is HO? I want this sooo bad!!!

  • Yes, this is HO! It is the all brass model from Overland (except for loco #458, which is an Athearn model).

I found it on ebay a while back from a store called Red Canyon Trains.

  • No offense or anything, but you might want to slow dowm the bell rate a little to make it more realistic. Otherwise, fantastic layout, especially those cars, engines, and decoder.

  • None taken buddy! Yeah the bell on this one is kinda fast, but I just haven't messed with it. The bell on my loco's is closer to what the bell rate should be.

Thanks for watching and everything too!

  • This engine is a true piece of work. It's also very hard trying to make them perfect. I know my MRC sound decoder overheats every few feet. I believe this is LOKsound? Is it easy to work with. I know I model n scale but how realistic is it and how offten does it overheat.

Very nice engine and make more vids of your layout! :)

  • Yes the sound decoders in both engines and the cab car are all Loksound decoders. I have not had any trouble with them overheating, but then again, I do not have any MRC decoders. Not for any specific reason, I just never tried one.

The Loksound decoder is a little tricky to work with in the beginning, but after you know what you're doing it not too bad. You just need to have the programmer because they don't come with sounds installed, and if you reset the decoder, you lose the sounds.

  • Do you mean a Lokprogrammer or some other kind of programmer.

  • Yeah sorry, the Lokprogrammer. Just make sure if you make some specific set-up for a loco that you save the entire file. That way if you ever do run into any problems with the decoder or need to reset it, all of your sound and lighting functions are saved.

  • Thanks. Can't wait to install some of these decoders next year.

  • Yeah, I can't wait to see your videos of your trains with them!

  • Yeah, my Kato NW2 engine is a pain in my butt. I got to reinstall the decoder. I'm thinking about making a review of the engine if I can get it to run.

  • That wouls be cool! I have an n scale layout too, but there is no sound in any of the loco's yet, and we still have quite a bit of work to do to it.

This layout is actually my friend's layout. Ours is only 4x8 and has a long way to go!

  • Hey, it doesn't matter how big it is. Really, I wanted to keep my layout small for two reasons. 1, I don't have a lot of space to do it and 2 because I want to take my time with the scenery without taking too long. I don't know when I'm going to be able to get another video on youtube. My Xbox 360 just broke, red ring of death, and I'm trying to deal with all that crap. More time for the layout I guess.

  • That sucks, but I like the part about more time for the layout! LOL!

No, I know the size isn't really important, but we haven't done much to it for several years, and I kinda got used to our club layout that was 30' x 18' and two levels!

Unfortunately that had to get taken apart (but is waiting to be reinstalled in my folks retirement house when they build it). So now I got to my friend's who have this layout that is about 20 x 14.

  • is this nscale or HO, if its HO who makes those Passenger cars?

  • This is HO scale. The cars are made by Overland (brass). They were really expensive, but totally worth it! I actually found this set on ebay too!

  • oh wow cool thanks. was it like $400 bucks? and who do you put a decoder in one of those?

  • Yeah, I had Milepost 38 in Anaheim Hills put a sound decoder in the cab car. The whole set, 1 engine and 5 cars, cost me about $3500! It sucked, but now that its all paid off, its great! LOL!!

  • DANG! $3500!!?!?! I bet it was worth it though. Overlands are SUPER detailed!

How did they put decoder in a train car, I thuaght you could only do it in locomotives!?

  • Yeah, the cost sucked but the train is awesome! And you're right there is a ton of detail to these models too! Had never really seen a brass train before and couldn't imagine what the attraction was until I got this set, they're amazing!

As for the decoder, you can actually put one in anything that has power pick-up. I just got a LokSound decoder and had the engine noise muted, and then the guy hooked up all of the lights and put a speaker and the decoder just above the front trucks.

  • Are these available in N scale?

  • Occassionally I have seen some custom made Surfliners in N scale on ebay, but I don't remember who the maker is. They also have them in Z scale.

  • nice sounds, sorry I can't help.

  • Thanks, and help with what?

  • the lights.

  • Oh, thanks. I actually got help from another YouTuber and it works flawlessly now! I'll have to make another video to show everyone.

  • yeah, could you help me? I'm looking for a dcc system but don't know a thing, only thing I know about it is that the locos need decoders.

  • I would be happy to help you. Its easier by email, so feel free to ask me any questions you have, and if I can't answer it, I know other friends who can. So ask away buddy!

  • Awesome! ^__^

  • Thank you!

  • I love your enthusiasm with your surfliner set. I'm thinking about adding lights and things to my caltrain cars in the future. Did you put sound in the cab car???

  • Yeah, all of the sounds in this video are from the sound decoder in this cab car, I just muted the engine sounds! I would love to see vids of your caltrain with the sound decoder in it. My brother wants to do the same with his Metrolink.

  • You have a lok decoder in there right? I know a guy in the bay area that sells them.

  • Yep, this is a LokSound decoder. I really like it a lot and I even got the programmer.

  • I have the same problem with the NCE decoder with the non-directional dithc lights. One questions for ya, who makes the coaches?

  • These are all Overland Models, and all brass! Have you found any way of getting those ditchlights to go off?

  • Unfortunately no I haven't. If you do... let me know... I'll zap you an email if I find a a way.

  • Okay, thanks!

  • ooh, u finally got it wired. now all I need to do is get u a cabcar horn.

  • Ha Ha Ha! Yeah, that would be nice! As soon as I get the other one installed I'll put some vids on here of it so you can hear the new sounds.
