The true last Irish hood' in NYC is the Woodlawn section of the Bronx.I just got back, its only 20 min from me. Stopped at the butcher shop and got some bangers and bacon for my father. There is an Irish supermarket called the Butcher Block where you can literally buy anything you would find in a store in Ireland. I've just watched another Youtube documentary that says almost a million white people have left the Bronx since 1960, my God thats a huge number! It also said that the Dominican influx saved the Bronx from major population decline.

The true last Irish hood' in NYC is the Woodlawn section of the Bronx.I just got back, its only 20 min from me. Stopped at the butcher shop and got some bangers and bacon for my father. Im kind of typsy because of drinking at the pub.... Woodlawn feels like the old country, gotta stop for fresh Guinness and whiskey. ;D

There is an Irish supermarket called the Butcher Block where you can literally buy anything you would find in a store in Ireland. Alot of the Irish immigrants from the mid-1980's came there as well as Woodlawn.

Marty Kennedy would be about your Father's age and lived accross the street from the projects. He hung out at a neighborhood bar named The Lakes Of Sligo. He was an excellent Irish Fiddle Player. My folks are from india and I am first generation growing up in the Bronx....I like the Irish.....good people...kind hearts....Its funny grew up on Heath Ave......and it funny because on the other side of the tracks (#1 Train) you have riverdale......made up of jews and irish.....You could see the difference in quality of life in the neighborhoods....

Egyptians built the pyramids, the Irish built the US. We hear how certain ethnic groups do the worst jobs for the worst pay. That was the Irish - they worked in sanitation, helped build the subways, contributed to the FDNY & shaped much of the city's archetecture. Some NYC nabes are still Irish (Woodlawn, Riverdale, some parts of Queens) & I hope they stay that way. At least their nabes are safe. They ruled for almost a century & sadly many of them are gone :(

I'm from old school Irish/Polish stock. I work moving furniture. I'm the only white guy I work with and the rest are black. I'm also the youngest. But they all know that I work. I put boxes on my back and up three flights of stairs I go. Go back down and do it again. I always say that it's the Irish in me. "It must have been the Irish that built the pyramids, No one else could carry up the brick" Not far from BX, Stamford CT.

The Irish pretty much built America. And you clearly know fuck all about the famine, the famine was nothing to do with Irish negligance but British. They handled the situation terribly and carried on taking export upon export of food out of Ireland. The Irish have done more for American than the Italians, combined with the Scots Irish. The Irish contributed greatly to the American Civil War as well. Just another jealous Italian again I guess.
