  • I wish to be an apprentice in Mass. anybody know a sponsor in my neck of the woods. any info would be gratefully appreciated thanks.

  • Kestrel Trapping(best) watch it people will see best muse& kestrel

  • Are you permitted to trap an adult female for capture and are they referred to as hens in falconry terms?

  • I am in the early stages is getting into falconry, I have been all over the net and visited the NAFA web site and the GFA sites. I asked Fish and Wildlife for a packet and got it, I've been reading it and I've been trying to find some of the books. I am going to the GFA trapping seminar/picknick. My next steps I think will be to get the furniture and build the mews and weathering area, then take the test. then I'll be looking for a sponsor.

  • @DreamsofCentaurs Dont build your mew and weathering are without your sponsor. There are lots of things that need to be integrated into your housing that you are unaware of. Foot care, perch material and placement, drainage, door and access, flooring material and drainage. Get a sponsor before you build anything. You will most likely make a mew that is not 100% safe for the bird. Murphy's law rules falconry. Whatever you think might be safe and ok ends up not being ok.

  • i feel bad for some of you guys cuz i live up in canada and in ontario I am to young at 13 apparently someplaces in the usa allow it at 12 but i am waiting on the ok so I can catch a redtail preferably male but i already have a sponser i just have to wait!

  • Yeah I want to be an apprentice too i live in Utah I have not found anyone

  • I want to be an apprentice but so far I haven't found someone to work with.

  • @AcidfartProductions What state do you live in?

  • @nevadafalconry Kansas

  • Listen up, for the last time. Currently in the state of Nevada in the USA as of 2011 it is illegal for an apprentice to possess a captive bred raptor. They may only possess wild trapped red-tails and kestrels.

  • I am also interested in falconry, however, howcome the hawk didn't male a lunge for your hand when you touched it's wing? I would be afraid that the hawk would try to defend itself, just curious.

  • RoTech you're an idiot &obviously don't know how to make complete sentences, oh & your sponsor (as most falconers call their "master", didn't know we were slaves) is just as dumb. If you passed your test as you supposedly did (b/c you're an "apprentice") then you should know that one of the questions is "Are apprentice falconers allowed to used eyasses?" The answer is no my friend, no. And #2, what color is this birds tail feathers? It's obviously not "older", you suck at raptor identification

  • Listen you ignorant person. Unless you know the falconry laws of another country or state, shut the hell up. It is illegal for an apprentice in the US to have an eyas, PERIOD!! Besides, this red-tail caught jack rabbits just fine. This bird is not older, it was 6 months old. Your master is incorrect in his information.

An as an apprentice, so far you know jack shit about falconry, keep learning and keep your mouth shut.

  • you shouldn't trap birds especially when there older you are supposed to get them out of the nest when they are younger if you trap them when there older they will

most likely make it that long and they wont be very good at hunting either plus it hurts the bird i learned that from my teacher who is a master falconer i might still be an a apprentice but it seems that i know more than you about catching a hawk or falcon

  • @RoTech100 In the state of Nevada as an apprentice you can only trap wild passage red-tails, or kestrels of any age. Trapping a passage bird does not hurt them and it certainly does not affect their ability to hunt. Also apprentice falconers in the U.S. can not take an eyas from a nest. Obviously your sponser doesn't know what they are talking about. Until the two of you know what you are talking about please shut the fuck up because you are making yourself and your sponser sound fucking stupid.

  • Awesome. I can't wait until the the end of october. She is beautiful.

  • @CrustyLoveLips Just noticed your location. Laws and falconry are much different over here. It is heavily regulated and has an apprenticeship, followed my many laws and rules. Before you can even get a bird you have to pass a federal test and inspection of all equipment and facilities. While some falconers after their apprenticeship do fly captive bred bop on average most falconers fly Red-Tailed Hawks from the wild as they are overly abundant here.

  • 80% of birds of prey hatched will not make it to see their first birthday. Apprentice falconers are only allowed to keep Red-tailed hawks under 1 year or American Kestrels (laws vary state to state). Chances are this bird would not have lived through the year. But in captivity it will receive the food and care (medication if needed) to help it. Studies show that it has zero negative impact on wild bird populations and even has positive impact because many of these birds are released again.

  • Nevada has not adopted the new federal laws so my apprentice is only allowed to fly wild trapped birds.

  • Great vid. Completely disagree with the principal of trapping birds from the wild, there's nothing wrong at all with a captive bred b.o.p. Ok, that birds gonna have a better life in captivity (potentially) but, why not trap birds, medicate them, then set the free? Then you can just train and hunt a captive bred bird...

  • Beautiful redtail
