I don`t agree with some comments below , i know the UK law about this matter, same law in some other countries exception made for the USA , and this is the point, I do not agree with this unreasonable law. Why important ancient finds must belongs to the state ? No, it is not fair in my opinion. So i guess i am against the law, and guess what ? I don`t care. If i will ever find something interesting or at this level, the find will not reach any state or museum, no money will be enough.

@m00ngaz3r75 Apparently you don't metal detect. If I were to go to the UK and find something old/valuable it is illegal to bring it back without reporting it. Its called the Treasure Act. I would get paid either way by a museum or by selling it on my own if they didn't want it/ couldn't afford it.. The law is annoying but we don't have it in the USA, which is good because I find a lot of old stuff on land and plenty of gold jewelry on the beaches. I have my cake and eat it, too.

The treasure belongs to the state , HOWEVER since the early 20th century, the finders have been entitled to the full antiquarian value of objects which had been retained for national or other institutions such as museums - as happened in this case.

As the hoard is valued at over £3m ,that's not bad for a few days work !

Also means that the English public get to see it .
