Kevin leahy used to be the curator of scunthorpe museum he is the Anglo expert in this video never melt a treasure it's worth more to history than money !!!!!!!
i can't wait to buy my first metal detector this comign february, can't wait.i hope i find something this huge on my first try!....i once found a 24k gold cross necklace on lake erie couple years ago w/o the use of any metal detector. All i did was look down by the rocks and bingo, there it laid.no dirt on it either.
If i found that i would not want to tell anyone. Because what ever country hes from they will try to claim it because they will say that i was goverment property
It won't be split in Nova Scotia, it will be melted down and sold! The government here can't keep its pockets empty,so they want 100% of what treasure hunters find. They're not getting mine,I don't even care if I find the holy friggin grail!! It's getting melted!
@TerryMMA85 gold is gold and will fetch a grand price. but British museums will pay an enormous amount of cash because its from their culture and provides a greater look into the past
@TerryMMA85 that's usually how most people do it when they ask permission to hunt land, they split finds with the owners...if you took it and did tell the land owner then you are stealing...
I don`t agree with some comments below , i know the UK law about this matter, same law in some other countries exception made for the USA , and this is the point, I do not agree with this unreasonable law. Why important ancient finds must belongs to the state ? No, it is not fair in my opinion. So i guess i am against the law, and guess what ? I don`t care. If i will ever find something interesting or at this level, the find will not reach any state or museum, no money will be enough.
Why did this person with the metal detect. gave away all that ?? always for the sake of money of course, people always think in this way.. did this person not realize that this treasure is UNIQUE in all the whole world and no matter the money that they can give you ? what a kind of an idiot he must be ! but better that he doesn`t show his face in tv because i would go personally to tell him ' sir you are an idiot congratulations ! ' sorry i do not mean to be rude , this is what i think.
@m00ngaz3r75 Apparently you don't metal detect. If I were to go to the UK and find something old/valuable it is illegal to bring it back without reporting it. Its called the Treasure Act. I would get paid either way by a museum or by selling it on my own if they didn't want it/ couldn't afford it.. The law is annoying but we don't have it in the USA, which is good because I find a lot of old stuff on land and plenty of gold jewelry on the beaches. I have my cake and eat it, too.
@m00ngaz3r75 - The hoard was "given away" to the Crown as Treasure Trove, meaning that no original owner could be traced. The treasure belongs to the state , HOWEVER since the early 20th century, the finders have been entitled to the full antiquarian value of objects which had been retained for national or other institutions such as museums - as happened in this case.
As the hoard is valued at over £3m ,that's not bad for a few days work !
Also means that the English public get to see it .
OMG I know what you mean.,.. I finally have time to MD and we just got 30+" of snow.. doens't look like I'm going anywhere.. anytime soon.. Cabin fever has overtaken my days..I now sit infront of YouTube and my computer - enjoying other persons finds and do lots of research of where I can go during the "melting" season! (LOL)... Thanks for sharing the clip and all the stories...
I went out in my back yard the other week and after about 15 minutes my hands hurt SOO bad so I called it off. I have a new detector (2now), and a new pinpointer so maybe I can still get out LOL Maybe...
Have you guys seen the metal detector made by Decima Watkins? It is remote controlled and drops a ball on the target. Her youtube name is creativegirl15 or 17.She is a smart person.
what astonishes me is that even then world trade existed. One precious stone from the island of Sri Lanka near India. Such beautiful works of art and design from that era.
metal detecting is very hard work lots of hiking and bending over to dig!...thank the gods an honest man found this and turned it over archaeologists (not melting it down)...hate the term dark age!.../milwaukee
Don't tell the media you found gold artifacts! Now the curators of all the major historical museums in Britain are gonna try to force you to give it up. If it were me, I'd probably keep it a secret and pawn the stuff for a bunch of cash. ;) Of course, I'd have to get it smelted into regular gold first so no one got suspicious.
how fuckin small are the chances?!, if i start right now and let me bring food for the rest of my life, chances are i wont find anything,..i can only agree with hybrid, lucky damn bastard^^
can anyone recomend a good detector 4 night hawking as my friends say they find more stuff at night . cheers
