We are now in last September, probably a delay in the work... On DOD's myspace they say that they start the compositions, and they recruited a new bass player from Eyes Of Noctum... This seems to be the first video ever of Hellhammer playing fast stuff, and finally one can see his conflicting technique. In one way it's old school but on the other it's very economical. On fast stuff he uses push/pull -technique for the hands and constant release (heel-toe) technique on the feet. But then again much of the power comes from the shoulders when playing slower stuff, one can really see that he doesn't have much power on wrists when playing the toms and cymbals - interesting...
Constant-release, heel-toe, whatev. you want to call it. When heel-toe developes further, the heel doesn't touch the ground at all. The technique is the same though.
@Imrez The heel-toe is a technique where you use the heel and the toe as a combination on the pedal, and the result is something like a doublet... Hellhammer always use the classic heel-up, where only the toe hit the pedal, for a classic single stroke... Many people and drummers think that HH use heel-toe, but it's not true, it's a legend... HH use always the heel-up, live and in the studio, in faster and slower parts... Cheers
@MrAlucard222 THAT IS NOT TRUE. He plays doubles with his feet on the fast parts. He told me personally, showed me and I'm using the exact same technique that he inspired me to learn. His foot motion at 2:57 and earlier in the video speak for itself; he's clearly working out those doubles in his legs with the alternating sixteenth note movement.
@bigfatbobby Are you sure? Because HH said, to a drummer here on youtube, that he never use the heel-toe in his career, never, always heel-up... Maybe he can generate a doublet with heel-up, i don't know, and it's possible because i can, in a way, with my heel-up technique... From this video and from his foot motion, for me, it's not clear at all to be honest... So The Chosen Legacy, The Last Line and Vemodets Arkitektur are play with heel-toe's doublet? I don't know what to think...
@MrAlucard222 I'm not saying he's using heel-toe. And he probably doesn't if he says so. Double strokes with the feet isn't heel-toe, at least for what I thought! Search for "tim waterson heel toe", then you'll se what heel-toe is. Sort of like the push-pull for hands.

@6sic666666 For sure Nick Barker is one of the most great and creative metal drummer alive, his cymbal work in Puritanical is awesome... But for me Hellhammer is better than him, he's way faster and most technical, probably a draw in creativity, even if HH's work in Arcturus and Winds is unmatched and out of this world... Kollias is super fast, at the level of HH, and is very solid, but technically is inferior than HH and NB... Cheers
@6sic666666 No problem bro, we have pretty similar tastes for drummers... They are a bit to "thick" for endurance, but they are in shape... You can get endurance with gym, but not the supreme talent that HH and NB have, for sure... With the right technical knowledge and talent, you don't need endurance for long parts at high speed... Even if they are a bit overweight (Nick more than Jan Axel), they can blast away any other metal drummer technically and for creativity, period... Cheers bro!

Constant-release, heel-toe, whatev. you want to call it. When heel-toe developes further, the heel doesn't touch the ground at all. The technique is the same though.

@Imrez The heel-toe is a technique where you use the heel and the toe as a combination on the pedal, and the result is something like a doublet... Hellhammer always use the classic heel-up, where only the toe hit the pedal, for a classic single stroke... Many people and drummers think that HH use heel-toe, but it's not true, it's a legend... HH use always the heel-up, live and in the studio, in faster and slower parts... Cheers

@MrAlucard222 THAT IS NOT TRUE. He plays doubles with his feet on the fast parts. He told me personally, showed me and I'm using the exact same technique that he inspired me to learn. His foot motion at 2:57 and earlier in the video speak for itself; he's clearly working out those doubles in his legs with the alternating sixteenth note movement.

@bigfatbobby Are you sure? Because HH said, to a drummer here on youtube, that he never use the heel-toe in his career, never, always heel-up... Maybe he can generate a doublet with heel-up, i don't know, and it's possible because i can, in a way, with my heel-up technique... From this video and from his foot motion, for me, it's not clear at all to be honest... So The Chosen Legacy, The Last Line and Vemodets Arkitektur are play with heel-toe's doublet? I don't know what to think...

@MrAlucard222 I'm not saying he's using heel-toe. And he probably doesn't if he says so. Double strokes with the feet isn't heel-toe, at least for what I thought! Search for "tim waterson heel toe", then you'll se what heel-toe is. Sort of like the push-pull for hands.

For fucks sake, Hellhammer is not fat! Like someone else mentioned, he has always been well built. You have to be in pretty good shape to play how he does without having a heart attack. I doubt I could last 5 minutes.

@queenmcsleaze Oh Idk... But it was up for 17000 euros.... But the kit looked LEGIT. The cymbals, The Drum kit... The only thing Im not fund of is the tom depths... They were HUGE. I know its black metal.... But >.< Too much..... But still, It looked BEAUTIFUL!

@6sic666666 For sure Nick Barker is one of the most great and creative metal drummer alive, his cymbal work in Puritanical is awesome... But for me Hellhammer is better than him, he's way faster and most technical, probably a draw in creativity, even if HH's work in Arcturus and Winds is unmatched and out of this world... Kollias is super fast, at the level of HH, and is very solid, but technically is inferior than HH and NB... Cheers

@6sic666666 No problem bro, we have pretty similar tastes for drummers... They are a bit to "thick" for endurance, but they are in shape... You can get endurance with gym, but not the supreme talent that HH and NB have, for sure... With the right technical knowledge and talent, you don't need endurance for long parts at high speed... Even if they are a bit overweight (Nick more than Jan Axel), they can blast away any other metal drummer technically and for creativity, period... Cheers bro!

Its sad that drummers these days, (I play drums, But not in a band) They mostly do blast beats, Speed demons, And thats all their drumming. Blast beats and fast double bass. Thats not being creative, Jan and Nick are creative, They blast beat, But, We're drummers, And we listen CLOSELY to Puritical Misanthropia and Stormblast 2005, The drum pattern, The cymbal work, Its like Mozart on Drums, Pure Genious!
