  • Actually, "Tom Sawyer" 's opening is played on an OBX.

  • @CP3x2007 it was created on an obx, but i think geddy also plays it on his pedals

  • @Beckham742 You are a "Fortunate Man"...!

  • I love how everyone says "Tom Sawyer", yet all I can think of is Kraftwerk...either way these pedals sound just epic.

  • YES => RUSH TOM SAWYER ... wie geil !

  • @sunandsnowmusic More like Camera Eye from side 2 of Moving Pictures!

  • For all those people that want this bass sound from a synth there are a number of ways to get it......but it has to be analogue.

New Dave Smith Prophet08 has a Tom Sawyer patch that does the lead and bass synth split over the keyboard range. You can get the same sound of the base from a Moog Prodigy or Rogue. Detune the pitch bend to the bottom. Then the cutoff frequency and adsr to get the opening filter sound and tune pot down.

Prophet 08 second hand for around £800 and Moog for £400...ish.

  • what kind of amp do you use with this beast?

  • Rush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Beckham742 Wow thanks!

  • How much does an instrument like that go for?

  • @Beckham742 Holy crap, what was he like? how much did they cost?

  • i realllllly want that

  • @Beckham742 Good for U Mr. Namedropper. We are VERY impressed

  • @LTLfilms: Geddy actially got that reso sweep sound out of his Oberheim OBX, the Taurus acted "merely" as a (cv) controller on this one. Same for most of the high string notes droning away in the "permanent waves" to "signals" period.

  • nice shoes

  • is there any way u can make a video demonstrating this sound effect without the backround beat

  • is there any keyboards you can get this synth sound out of?? i cant afford a moog bass pedals

  • is there anything else i can get that tom sawyer synth sound with?

  • @LTLfilms

not the same but check the taurus vst by Antti @ Smartelectronix.

  • @LTLfilms I've read that the Roland SH-32 does a very very very good rendition of that Oberheim Tom Sawyer growl sound. You might check that out.

  • @Thompsongs SH-32 is a good instrument, but Taurus is the best bass ive ever heard :)

  • @theHackerOfMayhem As a Taurus 1 owner, I have to agree. I'm still curious, though, how well the SH-32 does when it comes to imitating the Oberheim "Tom Sawyer" sound.

  • @theHackerOfMayhem But, to directly address your statement...yes, I think the Taurus does put out the best bass out of any synth, anywhere. There's no thrill quite like shaking a room with a Taurus.

  • @Thompsongs !! :)))

  • Is this a real song?

  • @michaelggood2

    no, only improvisation

  • roland drums

    moog bass

    yamaha shoes

  • Adam Jones Of TOOL uses this right? i think on Reflection and probably Rosetta Stoned

  • _Fantastic Machine ever heard!!!

  • great!

  • Nice! But i think when you use this a lot, your legg mussles will be painfull the day after.haha.good work out for your legs!!

  • so is walking!

  • was ein Monster, wäre auch perfekt für einige Drum and Bass-Sachen. Sowas fettes hört man heute selten. Genial.

  • Tony Banks probably used this one!

  • more Mike Rutherford

tracks with the Taurus: Squonk, Dance on a Volcano, Los Endos, Mama, Turn it on Again, Abacab, Tonight Tonight Tonight, The Brazilian, Second Home by the Sea, Supper's Ready, Firth of Fifth, The Cinema Show, Afterglow, Dodo...

  • Thanks for playing it with your feet. =)

  • nice octave up, i might get one of these, how much are they?

  • 1500-2500 on the used market. good luck.

  • Good shoe'age.

  • Thats a lot better than 4900 for a set of these....people are getting raped on the vintage market if you think about putting the word Moog on it.

  • i use a roland pk5 with a minimax asb... is a cheap alternative and it sounds amazing to my ears... i wish someday i may buy one of this...

  • I remember these being played by hand (not foot) during a Phil Collins concert while he was sing "I Don't Care Anymore". Damn...it sounded good!!

  • abacab

  • I`d do anything to have a Synthesizer like this one, especially the Minimoog. I know I`ll be able to buy it one day.

  • excellent ce truc

  • can you say "RUSH".....?

  • What power!!!!!!

  • Amazing unique killer bass sound. Fine piece of gear. Congratulations.

  • thanks

  • Another excellent example of these is "Cinema Show" by Genesis. Nothing else sounds like a Moog playing a bass line !!! Peace:)

  • Bass with testosterone!!!

    Excellent!

  • Faaat...

Are you playing a preset patch?

  • this is a self programmed patch

  • Amazing. Perfect and really needable instrument

  • What do you have this running through? (what amp?)

  • no amp , direct recorded

  • does it have a built in speaker? or do you have to attach speakers to the pedal?

  • no built in speaker

  • sounds like electroboy by the mighty boosh

  • Wow what a sound! Wow what an ugly shoe! ;-p

  • LOL

  • Now THAT was darn-funny...!!! Well done..!

  • awesome machine!!

  • excelente

até lembra musicas eletronicas dos anos 90

  • I wish that I could find somebody to trade me a set of these for my Moog Taures II's

  • this is madness

  • So in that case, this isn't sparta. Sorry for that lame ass reference, I couldn't resist.

  • True. In the early 70's both Chris Squire and Mike Rutherford used Dewtron Mister Bassman pedals. "Genesis Live" was late 1973 if I'm not mistaken, and the Taurus didn't come out until 1975 or 1976.

  • How does it work? can we use what we see only( bass pedals system),or it takes a sound moduler to create sounds? thks

  • How many sounds has it got?

And does it have any more natural sounds? Or are they all heavy synth sounds?

  • no natural synths, it`s a real analog synth

3 presets and 1 variable user sound

  • how much is one of these?

  • ~2000$

  • a little sloppy played, but nice sound^^ nice test, thumbs up

  • that was awesome

I prefer this video response to your original demo, the sound quality seems much better

great sounds, if only I could find one though!

  • thanks for your nice comment :)

  • Being a huge Rush fan, I just have to point out that these were used on far more songs than just Tom Sawyer, but good demo anyway.

  • This instrument became standard issue equipment among prog rock bands of the 70s, starting with Chris Squire of Yes and Mike Rutherford of Genesis.

There's a funny bit on the "Genesis Live" album from '72 where you can hear a couple Taurus notes before the band begins "Musical Box" and after a pause Peter Gabriel says, "That was an unaccompanied bass pedal solo from Michael Rutherford..."

  • rubbish, there is no taurus in 1972

    its a mister bassman ;)

  • yes

  • Hell yeah, super nice bass sound

  • i saw this one live on stage with jean michel jarre, sounds great.

  • love it as usual!

  • Thanks :)

  • wow. I just finally felt the right side of my brain move. GORGEOUS sound.

  • Yes, i can understand ;-)

    Thanks!

  • very nice video. 5 stars

  • Thank you.
