Well you all have to remember, the joker in the 60's-90's was very toned down in the comic books.

But the joker of the late 40's, which Ledger (R.I.P, hopefully he'll be remembered by jaw dropping performances like this) is a disturbingly insane psycopath killing whoever he wants for fun.

Also, there's 3 official reviews up for this movie from pre-viewings, and all 3 said it's the best comic book to movie adapdation and is perhaps one of the most disturbing and eerie too.
