@R3dTigerM40A3 actually...what we know as Tae Kwon Do is mainly based off of Shotokan Karate mixed with techniques from Taekkyon and AikiJuJutsu (this is why you learn the joint locks after you reach a certain dan). When it comes down to it, striking arts are ALL useless in real combat (except Kajukenbo and Krav Maga, which emphasizes striking quickly and in vital areas as much as you can). Ring Sport or a controlled environment, it seems useful.

@R3dTigerM40A3 if you say so, but in a real fight, people tend to rush in rather than just throwing a punch (especially if they've been in several fights before). there are no rules in street fighting, yeah having mastered TKD, Muay Thai, Karate might give you a slight edge, but street fights aren't a controlled environment (though, Muay Thai will prevail if you need to choose, because of the Clinch techniques)...you have to account for things that they DON'T think about in Marital Arts schools
