TRUE- that was kinda dumb why not somebody irrelevant or boring or plain and simple obnoxious you know, without pulling any names here like ppl who destroy the US constitution and call it patritoic
Wow... she looked amazing here, and I love her singing! O.O She had a healthy looking body... it's a hard thing to pull off in this day and age, but she pulled it off beautifully over sixty years ago... of course, I'm more in love with the fact that she sang a song in a language I doubt she spoke fluently, and she seems to have done it quite well, too. Though I am curious as to what she says exactly at the end, after "You know in the old days in Turkey, they say many women had male secretaries."
I thought it was Indian because of the dances she danced. There may or may not be an Indian version. I wouldn't know just by hearing the dialect nor just by watching the traditional dances. But is there some similarity between Indian and Turkish culture that the dances look similar or that the language sound somewhat related?
Never mind. I've done some research, reading and asking natives.
North African, Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Romani (Gypsy), and East Indian dance culture are very different but have enough similarities between them that you can recognize them as a related form in belly dancing, Raks or Near Eastern Solo Improvisational Dances.
i wonder what is your idea as a traditional turk. Would you share with us?
I dont know if there is turkish style of belly dancing. I think it is of Arabic culture. It is foreingner effect as far as i know. Even musics re arabic in belly dance.
Please note that the music the arthist sing is not belly dance music. That shoulnt confuse you. It is listened both in Turkey and Greece.
It is not dance music i mean. What is done above is Orientalismi (some kind of Fantasy Art).
I will reply to what I think you meant despite all your typos & grammatically incorrect English, which are put in place for efficient communication.
The original question was why were there similarities between Indian/Turk dancing. I found out via literature and native Indian/Turk/North East Africans that the similar movements we all are witnessing, called belly dancing here in the USA & Rak in the East, etc is the fusion of divergent dance cultures.
i dont know any info about exotic things like Indian culture.
Turkish belly dancers are not different than Arabic dancers. Probably arabs are richer and better on the issue. It is similar to the case of Rock music whic has much similarities all around the world with adaptation to local taste. May be indians were affected by Arab culture.
Also these video has no cultural referance for you.
If you don't know anything about Indian culture then how can you comment? The same with Arabic culture or anything else that is foreign and not Turkish.
You are disturbed by the fact that Turkish dancing such as that in this video is not completely unique since it is very similar to Arabic, Indian, Egyptian, Lebanese, Romanian, etc in dance movements and music. This is beyond the scope of my concern which I have already addressed by doing research, reading and asking of natives. Thank u4postn
This is a beautiful glimpse into the skill set of Eartha Kitt as a performer. I miss her. Thank you for posting this classic Privatedancer74. It provides a great cultural reference on the mixing of divergent dance traditions of the Indian, Arabic, Turkish,Lebanese, Egyptian arts
They tried to tell her that no one would want to listen to a turkish song, but in her usual Eartha-will-have-her-way, she won over not only Istanbul cabaret society, but recorded the most popular song in Turkish in the US!
Never said it was. I said I do burlesque. Also, Make sure you know what burlesque is then you will understand why I said I would love to do this number.
I just saw this movie, loved it. This performance really caught my eye. I love the way she moves in this dance, she is just wonderful. Now I have to find more dancing videos of Eartha.
Omg, if you can't find a video for this the audio works just as good: You gotta check out the 'live' version of this song!! She talks about the sayings in Turkey.. and some of the stuff she says is just plain dirty!! >;) Check it out!

not as sexy as Marilyn - men want simple sex first ;-)
-and, furthermore, I can't imagine that men would have been too fascinated by what they learn in this performance (women with male secretaries) ;-)

The singer is not Turk. His accent is rather different. But i think she is succesfull as a stranger.
