You are nowhere near free fall which is closer to 120 mph in spread eagle position (185 mph in head down).

You are correct that 40 mph is the speed through most of the fall, then it decelerates to almost nothing,

Too bad it's not true free fall. 40mph is nothing. 2 seconds of freefall in vacume is like 44mph add in the wind resistance and that's 2 seconds of free fall. Sure the terminal velocity of freefall in that position is 120mph or so. Looks cool anyways. A bit mild.
