I was lucky enough to meet Grace back in '65 when she was with J.A. In a small Midwestern town (Kankakee, IL) and the Airplane played in the high school gymnasium there. After the concert was over I walked onr to the small stage and got to rap with Paul Kantner, Grace, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Cassidy. It was something that happened quite by accident. I was a freshman in high school and some friends asked me if i wanted to go with them to see this new psychedelic band from San Francisco :).
@DeWodan well that´s the same thing the prude, conservative republican people back then said...and simply not true! and even in the case it would be true...so what! i don´t remember any genocid led by satanic people but a lot led by so called christians! i think you have no fucking idea what you´re talking about and less idea what she is talking/singing about...
Beauty on the outside last just a fleeting moment. Grace's lasting beauty is her voice, the music and the legacy. We as a culture are so hung up on the superficial..its a shallowness with infinite darkness.
Ehh, you know i have always said that all those great artists and musicians of that era had such beautiful souls but...just to indulge the 13 year old boy in me...how awesome would it have been to have a video of Grace Slick and Janis Joplin making out? Just throwing that out their, ya know...O.o

Keep going and going, there is no end to the journey until you stop taking steps. I first heard Somebody to Love on an AM 6 transistor radio in 1966- i was 16. Her voice had cast it's spell then and still rings in my soul. This song is a peak experience. Keep on singing and growing. Don't just keep the faith, BE THE FAITH!!!

There's always been a dichotomy between how she appears and how she actually is. The fantasy of a soft-spoken lovely girl stops when she begins speaking. Even in my youth, she always appealed to me as a VERY hard-hearted individual with not a lot of concern for anyone else. 'Doesn't matter at all now that we're old.
@whiskeyjack57 most good performers have a lot of ego, goes hand in hand, I guess, how else do you get up in front of thousands of people w/o some sense of narcissism?
If that was the Woodstock show, I saw it after coming back from the festival. Still remember her calling him Jim and wasn't that the show where she declared, "Wire me up and ball me wired"? He didn't stand a chance.
The first self-defined woman in rocknroll, the first one who wasn't just the chick singer with the band singing about I'm happy because I have a man or I'm sad because I don't. Copping ideas from Prokofiev and lyrics from Joyce, with humor, brains, beauty and a voice like a laser. She changed the game and she sure changed me. When she told me to feed my head when I was 15, who was I to say no?
Hey, I totally agree with you, but did you ever see the interview she did with Dick Cavett? The one where he was trying to make fun of her, and she just kept on talking about his shoes? It is hilarious
I truly wish I could have lived in the 60s .. just to witness that .. she was a beautiful lady from the inside out ... and she was so fun and her inner child never died ... that's what makes a true artist imo :)
I truly wish I would have been able to see her live or witness that beauty of art live :(
She had the talent ... and she had that simple natural beauty (That doesn't involve intense make up that would make you look like a clown like now) and those powerful eyes ... and those beautiful powerful lyrics ... and the way she sang those lyrics was just amazing ...
I wish I was alive in the 60s to be able to witness such beauty live ... Just look at how amazing she was as a person and as an artist ... she was 3 steps ahead for her era..
Thanks so much for uploading this beautiful song :)
I watched this and read the comments. You kids have absolutely no idea...
Back then she was nicknamed The Acid Queen. Grace was the biggest star in rock during the psychedelic era of 1967-68, bigger than Cher or Janis Joplin.
I don't think anyone born after 1970 realizes what that era means. You hear the music and say you wish you had been there but you don't know. It's so different
today, a whole different world, it can't be recreated or imagined. We were naive and everything was beautiful...
@ItsFijiWiji experience the sixties ? Easy - simply get a dose of pubic lice, drop a couple of microdots, cover yourself in mud and start hitching. Hey Presto - The Sixties !
The late 50's and 60's were such a special time. I remember all the things were changing and we all contributed to the changes. I feel sorry for the younger generations they missed an opportunity to try new things are parents could never envisioned. Today corporations run and stifle all artistic works. We were free and we were a generation that had love as our motto.
My new fav. song!

Listen - it sings of REALISING or recognizing the 'devil' of deceptive mind and putting it behind her!
St Paul said the same thing.
The music feels over produced though - not very alive or loose or empassioned.

Something inside this woman flowed with the truth. And honesty, And real insight. Even if she didn't understand. And perhaps she did.
Right now does anybody else have anything more profound to say?

This was a young woman who really had something to say. And she said it! I can't explain the admiration I have for her, but it's deep and wide.

If that was the Woodstock show, I saw it after coming back from the festival. Still remember her calling him Jim and wasn't that the show where she declared, "Wire me up and ball me wired"? He didn't stand a chance.

what a Slick lady!

The Barbie Doll's sole source of inspiration was Grace Slick!

I truly wish I could have lived in the 60s .. just to witness that .. she was a beautiful lady from the inside out ... and she was so fun and her inner child never died ... that's what makes a true artist imo :)
I truly wish I would have been able to see her live or witness that beauty of art live :(
Such beautiful music is immortal tbh.
Thank you so much for uploading this :)

All this 60's talk, but isn't this on one of her 80's albums?
addmelolz 1 year ago 3

The drek tha tis churned out today makes one pine for all the great artists of the 60s, 70s. I always like Grace.
