  • My Mom killed an owl with a car once, and she wrote a song just like this about it, lol

  • soundgarden is like the black sabbath of the 90's., i mean you can hear his influences in almost every album, but majority in badmotorfinger in my opinion.

and even kim thayil kinda looks like a psychotic version of tommy iommi

  • one Man's misery & pain,is another's ecstacy & joy...who is to Jud-GE...???

  • my sister LOVES THIS SONG!!!

  • EPIC SONG

  • Kim on that guitar... he is a beast!

  • Superunknown is THE '90 rock album. In fact it's one of the best albums ever! This song is EPIC!!! AWESOME!

  • Who disliked this song??? Pointless..com.

  • I think the lyric is 'she lived like a martyr but she died," not murder.

  • @vjd55 I used to hear "martyr" too, but it actually is "murder".

  • I did! :( I never listen to the radio so I am never up to date. I guess it's better late than never!

  • @superrman21 Dude, it was all over the news and the internet, not just the radio.

  • I love the drums in this song!

  • not abou a bird

  • @BlOodCode420

    turd wood

  • Chris said this was his best song

  • @3:30 it's time to throw down!

  • Isn't this about a woman who committed suicide?

  • @tickedoffnow nope... well, in a round about way. its about 'a bird' flying into a window. so bird/woman, sort of the same. ha ha

  • @tickedoffnow it's about whatever you choose it to be

  • @Lawldudz I wish people would stop tossing around that throw-away response. This song has been confirmed to be about a bird that flew into Chris Cornell's window while he was living shut-in, and the emotional response he had to putting it out of its misery. I don't mean to spoil any individual experience when listening to this song, but people need to learn to take a literal meaning for what it is and let the music put them in that same place, especially with such a brilliant lyricist.

  • @Lawldudz Besides, there's always room for personal interpretation beyond the literal meaning (something else I wish people would consider). Most great songs have lyrics that run deeper than the surface. This one's no exception.

  • So eerie, yet so beautiful at the same time...SoundgardeN ForeveR!

  • ending of this song always gave me goosebumps

  • Saw them in San Francisco. They played Four songs during their encore. Matt Cameron is one of the greatest drummers ever.

  • Saw them last night in San Francisco. They sounded amazing!

  • 1 person doesn't like suicide

  • I always imagined that a man heard his lover wake up and fall out the window, breaking her neck and he ,heartbroken, threw himself out the window after her. Having fatally injured himself, with his last ounce of strength, he kills her and has to then endure a long painful death.

  • 1 person is'nt dead yet.

  • 1 people needs a proper suicide.

  • what pos disliked this song?

  • I love the build up in this song

  • I played spoons on stage w/ CC i Norway...LOL!...Great experience!!...

  • 1 person should be shunned from society.

  • yea, this song does kick a ton of arse!

im very happy SG is back in action, i was too young to attend one of their concerts back when batmotorfinger, superunknown where around, but im not anymore :)

cant wait to go see them live!!!!

  • Soundgardens best album and one of my favorites next to AIC Dirt and Master of puppets.

  • @1AlphaMeTalHeaD You know it is an amazing album. However, I believe everyone overlooks Down on the Upside because it was a totally different sound than superunknown. It deserves more attention because it is an amazing album with a totally new and clean sound. It is a much more focused and concise effort by soundgarden as opposed to superunknowns spontaneity. I agree with you, superunknown is their best, I'm just trying to spread some awareness for the best ever forgotten album.

  • @musicallycorrect94 I love down on the upside too but if I were to rate thier albums its Superunknown, Badmotorfinger, then Down. The last 7 songs on down are a bit weak IMHO.

  • ....then again maybe it's the name. Never know.

  • I love a song with a little ambiguity. 'Eyes were waking up just to fall asleep. Safe outside my gilded cage with an ounce of pain.' Thought provoking. 'Dreaming through another day in my own real life illusion. Serenity's lost in a swirling vortex , why does peace love confusion?' I know it has nothing to do with it. Just came to mind for some reason.

  • i doubt anyone noticed. but the first verse is a dub of chris. meaning he sang that twice. and it's perfect, cept where he kind of fell off. but it's something beautiful. something dimebag would've appreciated.

  • I don't think there is anyone in the world who can write songs like Chris...

  • I'm going to kill myself. and the best part about it is... you can't stop me.

as homage, I would greatly appreciate a thumbs up. because you won't hear about me on CNN.

  • @p4rano1d4ndro1d I hope your not serious man. God Bless you if you are

  • Fav off the album. This is more a bmf song to me, mesmorizing guitar.

  • Love the begining with the silent bass, the wailing guitar and later in the song Chris Cornell's powerful singing of the chorus!

  • one of kim thayil's best bits of guitar work *****

  • I have seen them 3 times!!!! Bring on the fourth!!! SG FN ROCKS!!

  • one of the most beutiful things i ever did hear :)

  • this song was written about how one afternoon a bird flew threw chris's open front door and broke its neck on some kind of impact. it was still alive, so he had to smash it with a brick to put it out of its misery

  • @reignoflemons Really? wonder where you heard that. I have always wondered what this song was about. I a;ways thought it was a chick that burned him good....

  • @BigNick419andholding well it may have been, but this event is just what he used to metaphorcally display tht situation.

  • @reignoflemons i had to do that to my mum's budgie.it fell awkward of it's perch must of banged it's head,it was making some horrible noises,it was in big trouble so i think i did the right thing.not nice, thats the only thing iv'e killed.never heard this song before.dont get stuff like this in the u.k.nice tune.

  • @reignoflemons holy shit thats sad

whats great about soundgarden is that you can interpret their lyrics to any personal experience, despite what it was originally written about.

WOO im seeing them within hours!

  • @reignoflemons think about it if a whole swarm of birds flew into his house, then you would have a whole album like these killer songs

  • no it's about suicide.

  • @reignoflemons Wrong! It flew into a closed window of Chris's house. Hence: "Dazed out in a garden bed." It was a Robin as well.

  • The lyrics from this video are awsome

  • Soundgarden is getting back together! Spread the word!

If you dont believe me look it up!

  • i know! cant wait to see them

  • @vikingdude17 i wonder what they'll sound like.

  • @Defsolid As far as I know they still sound great. CC can still hit the notes. I'm so into them i got the Telephantasm DVD pack a day early

  • @vikingdude17 i just heard there "new" single, it sounded like a song from Badmotorfinger, some say that it's an old unreleased material.

  • @Defsolid thats correct. at the time of Badmotorfinger, they were recording Black Rain but didnt finish the song. Now that they got back together they found the old song, finished the roecordings, and released it. Now Soundgarden is talking about creating a completely new album but that has yet to be proven.

  • @vikingdude17 hes not lying! SAW IT IN A GUITAR MAGAZINE TODAY! WHOOO! SOUNDGARDEN ROCKS MA SOCKS!

  • @vikingdude17 hell yah soundgardens getting back together and they are going to be better this time and have better solos even thought the solos were good they just need more practice lol but they still rock i say get soundgarden back together

  • @vikingdude17 I just read that a couple minutes ago! I cannot wait to hear his killer voice in new songs. :)

  • @superrman21 Wait, your telling me that you just now heard that Soundgarden are back together? They've been back together for almost 2 years now. Two album releases have been out in the last year : Telephantasm and Live on I5.

  • while this may dark lirycs....the progression of the sound and energy of this song is just amazing...cornel and the band really define the 90's grundge era...they look the part, sound the part, and just overflowed with 90's rock n roll energy for all of us...will always remember these guys...so right on...
