Very misleading and misinterpreting video. "It is as the sun and evident as the day that there is no God" is not quote form works of Karl Marx, it is quote from the works of Ludwig Feuerbach, who was criticized by Marx in Marx' work "Thesis on Feuerbach". On other hand, marxist thinker Erich Fromm in his book "Marx's Concept of Man" showed, that worldview of Marx has roots in Biblical tradition.

Marxist Atheism seems too simplistic & "hostile". Trivializing life & everything else by regarding them merely as "matter". To me, it is as cheap & intellectually dishonest as any inflexible & absolute claims of certainty about reality and the nature of the universe. Humans have only begun the scientific and philosophical journey, hence, it's too soon to be "certain". Marxism to me is a sincere attempt at human utopia,but primitive1,& extremely flawed, much like capitalism.We're still evolving.

Capitalism is total economic freedom. Socialism is lack of economic freedom.

Communism is anarchy, which is total social freedom. Fascism is lack of social freedom.

In a socialist economy, the government controls virtually all the means of production, and in a capitalist economy, the government controls almost none of the means of production. I know there is a large gray area between them, including social democracy and democratic socialism.

@WSWarthog A stateless, classless society is anarchy. Marx can make it complicated and call it "communism", but if there is no state, it's anarchy. Everyone can, more of less, do whatever they want until that power vacuum fills back up.

You should Marx and Engels criticism of anarchism. There 'Anarchism and Anarcho-Syndicalism' is the best place to start. The idea that marxism and anarchsim agree on the ends (a classless, stateless society) but disagree on the means, is far from adequate.

wewantpot010 clearly did not watch the video. this video does't make the left look bad. all this video says is that Theordore recoginses that athism is a flaw in marxism. theodore is making the left look bad, not the film makers. the film makers presented this guy, true, but they also presented marx;s side too, and infact it was longer, being that it is a documentary on marx. don't let your ego cloud your judgment man. there's stoners on the right too.

Wow, anyone who took an course on Marx or read a biography, his works, etc., would know that he and Engels developed their ideas and critique based on Hegelian dialectic, British enlightenment philosophy and theories from the french revolution. Yet they make no effort to mention this.

You cannot claim that the problem of Marxism is Atheism without first contradicting atheism. By merely taking supreme beings for granted there is no parcel of logic in that argument. As far as I can tell Marx is completely correct in his rejection of supreme beings. You need not fill any void of the loss of god as there is no void created, science provides all necessary explanation so far.

hmmm, Dostoevsky's "problem of communism is the problem of atheism" was explicitly rejected this summer by the Communist Party USA (CPUSA), when it announced in June that it was error to think communists were against religion, that really they hoped for change that could be brought about by interfaith efforts, & therefore was setting up a CPUSA Religion Commission

@EncompassedRunner Well when it comes to communists in the states this is who I take seriously: Party for Socialism and Liberation, International Socialist Organization, Freedom Road Socialist(Especially after the FBI raids earlier this year), and (surprisingly even though they're not officially communist) the Socialist Party USA. The two that are just an embarrassment at this point is the CPUSA and the Revolutionary Communist Party because of it's worship of their leader Bob Avakian.

@EncompassedRunner Of course there are also a few small Trotskyist groups in there like the Socialist Workers Party and the Worker's World Party is alright. The Progressive Labor Party is also very useful when it comes to combating racism, they have a reputation for being VERY militantly anti-racist.
