Magic Johnson's reaction to this move was great. He said that he looked at Michael Cooper and said, "Well, do we take the ball out or ask him to do it again?"
I have a book that shows a still photo from above the court. It's amazing to see the Doctor's move from that angle because you can see how far his hand is behind the backboard. I think this is still the greatest move of all time.
It's alway gonna be Dr. J, Moses Malone, Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Michael Jordan THAT'S IT!!! (Honorable Mention, Kobe Bryant)
I watched that game live. I was for the Lakers and during those years, Julius was what Jordan was during his years and you wanted to see someone stop him because no one could. They had his ass cornered in every direction; to this day that move shocks the shit out me. One of, if not my favorite move in an NBA game.
@epics7 Unlike you garden variety up and under when the player is running at full speed, Julius jumped, realized that Kareem and Landberg had him cut off. So, he pull the ball down, ducks his head under the backboard, contorts his body in a way that no human is supposed to, and comes up on the other side. I saw it on the tube as it happened and fell outta' my chair. It's still as awesome now as it was then.
crazy how he started to go straight up, then stopped and fooled all the defenders, meanwhile hes up there and kareem is frozen like a nintendo 64, and after all that he scoops it up and in to the other side without traveling
julius was young and healthy in the ABA. he was with the virginia squires i think then went to the new york nets. these type of things were his norm in those days
@07Dracoian13 The sad part is Julius did this type of thing all the time in the ABA, but there basically are limited films available of his younger days during that time.
Julius had huge hands, great hang time and could play like he was in a ballet...never
Dr. J holds that ball like a normal person holds a grapefruit
